hiya, it was nice to meet the celebrated garyqqq whilst both doing our domestic tolley push at the supermarket, i have been following your challenges on this forum and the two main lessons that take from your quest is the importance of br management which ishould be the mantra of all micro stake players like me, but probably as important, something that low stake players lack is the patience you need to wait for the right situations, and this is what i am working on at the moment,.  good luck as you progress

    Up £3.50 today

This afternoon I had another session in the £1.05 HU STTs. The current run of ten consecutive wins came to an end in the very first game when I was beaten fair and square by step7, one of the toughest opponents at this level and someone I’d rather avoid.

After that I was somewhat surprised to find myself playing bingo poker against three opponents who wanted to play all-in pre-flop with just about any two cards. These guys don't usually turn up in the games with a slow structure. I'm confident in my calling ranges but it didn’t go my way this time, aipf losses including AA<Q9o, AQs<Q7o and AJs<75o resulted in two defeats from the three games.

At that point I was 1-3 down in games and pretty much expecting a losing day. That would have been fine, nobody can book a win every single session and ‘two steps forward one step back’ type progress is fine with me. However I then enjoyed a run of 6 wins against opponents who'd come to play proper poker and I finished 7-3 ahead.

I’m very happy with my current form and balance. Getting £33 behind me before the 1,000 starting points have been used up has diminished my risk of ruin significantly. In fact I’d say that risk is close to zero already. The main question in my mind for the first month was ‘can I do it?’ This week that doubt has gradually faded and I'm now find myself thinking ‘how long will it take to do it?’

Thank-you Ian, Alan and rancid. It's going very well at the moment, perhaps too well, I hope it lasts. I'll need to remind myself of this week when I hit the inevitable down-swing.

I'm prepared to be a bit more aggresive with my bankroll this time, so I've got a feeling I won't be waiting until next month before I hit the £2 MTTs.

    Up £4.75 today

I entered the 2-00pm Omaha freeroll today, my first freeroll for a week. After a great start I was donked out by a player who didn’t have a clue what he was doing and put two bad beats on me for huge pots. It was a reminder of how soul destroying these freerolls can be, so I’m very happy that I no longer need to rely on them to build my balance.

After that I went back to the £1.05 HU STTs. Over the last few days I’ve felt totally ‘in the zone’ in these and they’ve proved to be the perfect bankroll builder. I won another 5 games to extend my current winning streak to 11, and I’ve won 22 of my last 25. Admittedly most players who turn up at the £1.05 level aren’t too challenging and struggle with their post-flop play. I must be running pretty well too, there’s no way I can expect to maintain the current win-rate of 88% for long.

I watched one of your games earlier Gary, no particular reason just saw someone sat at the £1 HU and thought it might be you. Dont know if you remember the game but one hand you got check raised on a river which gave you K high flush and he had top pair, i expected to at least see a lower flush shows what i know lol and then you took it down with Qs against 64. Played some normal structure games myself recently and enjoying having alot longer to outplay and outhink my opponent before shove fold stage. Wouldn't mind an 88% win rate myself lol well played.

I've just looked back at the HH to remind myself of that one. Obviously I was never folding there with the second nuts, though with hindsight I wish I'd tried to extract more value. Perhaps the 1.9x pot sizing of the check/raise put doubt in my mind that he might have the nuts, it was level 1 and I was still pretty much readless at the time. In these normal structured games taking a small-ball approach in the first couple of levels is a winning strategy, where you have a big edge there's no point making too many high variance plays.

I can't see the hole cards there, but I see you made a Royal Flush, nice one! For the time being I'll be found in £1.05 HU matches for a couple of hours most late mornings or early afternoons if you fancy a game.
