What happened yesterday? UKOPS Day 5

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 166,906

Afternoon all.

I have no idea what it is, but a happy Halloween to you all.

I did a little googling, & discovered that Halloween used to be a sort of special day on which children dressed up in silly costumes & painted their faces, but these days some grown-ups do it too.

It's amazing the things adults do these days. I have a pal - middle-aged - who plays "Football Manager", another who has an X-Box, whilst my next-door neighbour, old enough to have a beard, plays Fortnite.

I've not got a clue what pumpkins & Halloween have in common, but they seem to go together. This fella was spotted on the River Ouse in York yesterday. Honestly, I swear the world has gone mad.

So, with Day 5 completed, UKOPS is now half complete, & in most respects, Sky Poker seem to have got the Guarantees just about right. There have been a handful of misses, but nothing too painful, though from this point in, "fatigue" is the main danger.

Worth noting that this weekend might be a struggle, as many folks - including grown-ups would you believe? - will be out at Bonfire Nights.

    Last night?

The main worries were the Main & the High Roller, but both did just fine. The High Roller, needing 75, got 108. Quite an eye-opener that, there have now been 2 High Rollers in 3 days and both of them covered with ease. Who'd have thought? Fair play to Sky James who has been quite creative with the Satellite schedule for these.

The Mini battered guarantee, as did the Hyper Rebuy BH, and the curtain-raiser got over the line by a short-head, but there were small losses on events 30 & 31.

Not exactly A+, but not bad.

    UKOPS 26, £22 entry, £4,000 BH

Our winner went by the quite splendid alias of @COOKINGFAT who presumably chipped up nicely, with @jpotgmoney 2nd and @5ausages 3rd.

Sky Poker veteran @rivermunky was next, followed by @MrDooWop and @wineli.

There were small cashes for @Lightwood @Sharki0 and @dai-dull, all of whom have had previous results in this UKOPS renewal.

So for those guys the evening began well, not bad for starters.

In the USA, they have a tradition of getting some celeb to sing "Star Spangled Banner" before a sporting event, and at the Oklahoma Thunder v LA Clippers NBA game last night, it was actress Kristin Chenoweth, and she was introduced to the mightily tall Boban Marjonavic, who plays for the Clippers.

    The mind truly boggles.

    image

He must be one of the few NBA players who can do a no-jump-dunk.

    UKOPS 27, £220, £15,000 High Roller

Well well well, on a Final Table packed with the good and great of Sky Poker, it was none other than Dog Bloke, aka @rspca12 who emerged victorious, collecting over £6k in the process. Well done Chris, tremendous stuff.

The unlucky heads up opponent was @rainy555 playing his first MTT here in over a year, & only his third in 2 years. That's like a racehorse who runs well first time out after being off track for 2 years, though fortunately a Stewards Inquiry was not needed in this case.

They were followed by @xleex21, @Sharki0, @StayOrGo and @TommyD. Easy final table, then.

    Also in the money were @rosiedog00, @SoLack, @GSmith13, @Gambelo and @MRBLEWPIE.

Many say poker is a game of luck, but time after time in big events the better players seem to get the job done.

Over at the Kings Casino in Rozvadov, wherever that is, the WSOP-E Main Event enters Day 4 with 2013 WSOP Main Event winner Ryan Reiss - who seems a decent sort - with a huge chip lead, almost double the 2nd place.

Imagine trying to bluff Ryan with a complete airball, & he gives you that "I don't believe you" look. Think I'd wet myself.

The UK are well repped though, with 3 or 4 still in with a chance, including Steve Warburton, Niall Farrell and Jack Sinclair. Would love to see Steve run deep, one of my favourite players on the circuit, & a lovely lad. Here he is at a Sky Poker UKPC a few years back, immaculately groomed as always. Not sure, but I think that's Neil Strike next to him.

    UKOPS 28, £110 entry, £15,000 BH

This covered Guarantee nicely. So that's 2 x £15,000 MTT's back to back on Sky Poker, & both covered easily. Watch out 'Stars, we are on your case.

Great to see @lyonsbob06 win this, he's been here forever & does pretty well.

    Runner-up was @PRhack93 - a journo, maybe? - with the all numeric @67912092 third.

Good to see @dantb10 run 4th. Dan won a Viva Las Vegas jolly the first time Sky Poker did Vegas back in 2009, & finished in the money in a $1,500 jobbie. Later that year, in what was only the first or second ever SPT, in Manchester, he came 2nd. Snooker player Ryan Day was 6th & @Dollie - who was old even then - was 7th.

In those days what we now know as the SPT went by the title of Sky Poker UK Tour, using the glorious acronym of SPUKT.

SPUKT? Ugh. What were they thinking?

    image

We used to do those comedy cheques" in those days too, which always struck me as rather fun.

    image

Sorry, I digressed a little there. Back to UKOPS 28, & look at this little lot who finished 7th to 11th respectively - @FeelGroggy, @alancarr12, @devil_tear, @IrishRose and @Gambelo. Tough to get past that crew.

    UKOPS 29, £11 entry, £3,000 Mini BH

In yesterday's write-up I gave mention to @lolufold, lo and behold he went and won last night's Mini.

He was another member of Team Sky Poker, can you name all of these?

    image

Team Sky Poker was a great Promo, really good, and ideally suited to the TV Channel.

    Runner-up in the Mini was @sillymid - a cricketer, presumably? - with hotshot @GSmith13 3rd. A pair of Danny's were 4th & 5th, @danny2309 and @dannykath, with @spinky6108 in 6th.

I noticed -LEON- in 8th, he's been here a goodly while.

@MattBates scored his best result so far in this UKOPS in 50th place, collecting almost £6 profit, and good to see @madprof and @MISTY4ME both collecting a few bob.

Both @BlairReid and @Toffeeandy were early casualties, so early in fact they were able to catch the end of the first half in last nights Burton Albion v Notts Forest televised game. Hope they had not had a bet on Forest to compound their misery.

    What are the chances?

Sod's Law was at it's most powerful on Monday when Will Kassouf and Shaun Deeb ended up sat next to each other in the WSOP-E Main.

    UKOPS 30, £22 BH, £4,000 BH

Bit of overlay in this one, unexpectedly.

Winner was @JARV1 who bested @Campot2 heads up, just ahead of @4fingersAA and @RedDave65.

@GREGSTER was 5th, a spot ahead of Stoke City fan @MAXALLY. Tough gig being a Stoke fan these days.

    @TommyD was 7uth, @Gambelo 9th (how many times has he cashed this UKOPS? - must be a good few), @Marmite11 a symmetrical 11th, @chiggypig 12th with @Limp2Lose 13th.

After the rub I gave him in the Mini, good to see @BlairReid run deep in this.

    Some good players departed very early in this 168 runner affair - @Itsover4u 154th, @Sharki0 155th, @rspca12 157th, @Wacko90 159th, @Curt360x27 160th, @eddie18 161st, and plum last in 168th none other than the mighty @jordz16. Tough gig some nights.

    UKOPS 31, £55 entry, £4,000 Turbo BH

Winner here was @ChIpSiSpK which is really hard to type who beat the consistent @wineli in 2nd, with a really fine result for @p_blase in 3rd, ahead of @SoLack @Froozle - another very consistent player - and @MikeyW94 in 6th.

@sandforddd ran just ahead of @Gambelo, and a much better result this time in 9th for @jordz16.

    Mini-monies for @StayOrGo, @Itsover4u and even @HAYSIE.

Talking of @HAYSIE, the photo of the HAYSIE lookalike I published yesterday was Issac "Skunk" Hayes.

    They never believed me

This gravestone must just be the best ever. The story goes it belonged to Spoke Milligan, but that's not true.

    image

If you could choose - & you can, even though it's hopefully very premature - what would you want on your gravestone?

    "How could he call?"

"Worst bad beat ever ever ever"
    ?

UKOPS 32, £22 entry, £2,000 Hyper Rebuy BH

And so the evening ended with this Hyper, and it was UKOPS specialist @Sharki0 who took the honours, ahead of @dunni18 and @cabbaz.

@rspca12 was having a cracking night, running 4th here whilst winning the High Roller.

Minor money went the ways of @scotty77, @Nutter5932, @Limp2Lose and @jordz16, with @chicknMelt just missing out.

Decent evening overall, some nice wins & some horrible beats, players will either be celebrating or licking their wounds, but either way most will be back tonight, some full of hope & optimism, others doom & gloom.

    From left to right....

Wayne (@Glitterbabe) , Redmond (@lolufold), the absolutely lovely Lisa (@LML), Dan (@Dantb10) and James (@ljamesl) . All a good bunch who represented the site very well. Met most of them at my 1st ever SPT at Luton.

Really pleased to see @rspca12 take down the HR last night.

Did they have a chat over a couple of drinks and a quick spin of the roulette wheel after? I imagine at least one of them would think this was a profitable idea ;)

    Yes I'm feeling sassy.

Great updates as always Tikay and congrats to all, especially Lyonsbob and RSPCA.

good work as usual , But I thought xleex21 deserved a special mention final tabling the £110 (5th) and the £220 (3rd). great work fella

Another great write up. As others have said, wp to Lyons and RSPCA. Is a funny old game, Chris running terrible then runs and plays well and ships his biggest result on sky.
