The WSOP 2019 Thread

Fanfare please, it's time to start the 2019 World Series of Poker thread.

Although the full schedule won't be released for a few weeks yet, the WSOP have announced some of the highlights for the 50th WSOP which will run from 28th May to 16th July.

The opening weekend will start with a special event for the 50th Series, a $500 NLH event called the Big 50, where the first entry for each player will be totally rake-free. Subsequent re-entries, to the same or different flights, will be raked.

The Millionaire Maker will run from 7th June, the Monster Stack from 21st June and the Main Event from 3rd July.

I will try to post the full schedule as soon as I can after it is revealed.

(There is also to be a special "celebratory gala and awards evening" on Saturday 29th June).

The WSOP starts tomorrow (Wednesday), Event # 1 being, by tradition, the Casino Employees event.

As you know, Barny @FCHD, always brings us tremendous daily updates with plenty of added colour & facts.

I have not heard from Barny for some time, so I've written to him by e-Mail today.

Fingers crossed he is able to run his thread again, but if he can't, we'll have to try to come up with another way of doing it, though it'll struggle to be even half as good as Barny's annual updates.

Fingers crossed, hopefully I'll have an answer in the next 24 hours.

    @FCHD

"the 50th Annual WSOP starts today, in about an hour if my time-zone calculations are correct"

I'm getting to the age where I'm easily confused Barny, but I was pretty sure it is due to start at 11am (local) TOMORROW (Wednesday 29th) not today?

Worth reminding readers that Las Vegas is 8 hours BEHIND the UK.

So when events start at 11am in Vegas, it will be 7pm in the UK, etc etc.

Yes, it's senility kicking-in! As i was typing up all that lot, I saw a tweet from the WSOP saying "Doors open for the 50th Annual WSOP today!" and put two and two together and made four and a half. Sorry all, back to your seats and Casino Employees, get back to your day job!

I have a subscription to PokerGO and they will be streaming most final tables as well as everyday of the main event.

I think poker central has a twitch channel which shows some as well. Not 100% sure on that one tho

After a bit of a false start on my part yesterday, I can now confirm that play is underway in the 2019 WSOP with cards in the air in the Casino Employees' Event. I'm betting that neither you or I will have ever heard of 99% of the players in this, so I will be reduced to picking out one or two based on "interesting" names.

Well we've come up trumps already, as the winner of the second hand related in the official WSOP updates goes by the name of Brian Booze.

This is a $500 event, but later tonight the first of the big boy tournaments starts, the $10K Super Turbo Bounty NLH competition, where I'll probably have a better grasp on a few of the players.

In the Casino Employees event one name most will know is Kevin Mathers, aka Kevmath.

He's not off to a bad start either, he tweeted this photo about an hour ago. However, he Tweeted that this stack came to 62,300, which is clearly wrong. How many do you reckon it is? (The light blue chips are 500).
