Who won what, Wednesday 6th January

Tikay10Tikay10 Member, Administrator, Moderator Posts: 161,076

Morning.

As an avid sports fan, last night's TV schedule featured the Manchester Derby (Semi-Final version), followed by Day 1 of Australia v India in the 3rd Test. Hard to imagine better viewing. And yet I never watched a second of either, I was completely mesmerised by what was happening over in Washington.

Meanwhile, online poker serenely carried on as it always does. Traffic was more meh than marvellous. OK, but not spectacular. Those who were hoping for another online poker boomlet are probably going to be disappointed, but there will be a bit of an uptick.

Still, some interesting results last night, as we shall see.

7 @ 7 £1,379

£1,000 BH £1,460

£6,000 Predator £9,030

£2,000 Predator Mini £2,185

    7 at 7 Bounty Hunter (£1,379)

    Sunday8pm, who closed out 2020 with 4th in the UKOPS HR, took this - and as we shall soon see, he was not done yet.

    4th was PRhack93, who is in good form, having won a £1,000 BH 2 nights earlier, collecting over £400.

    £1,000 Bounty Hunter (£1,460)

    A double on the evening for TheEnigma0, who took this & then followed up by winning a 70 runner tenner BH that started 10 minutes later. Remember, this was the guy that won the Sunday Major for over £5,000 3 nights earlier. As a result, he now has one of those lovely shiny sapphire (?) spinning things on Sharky, as he is currently #1 in the 2021 Sky Poker Sharky Leaderboard. It's early days of course, & virtually meaningless, but the 1-2-3 on that Leaderboard is @TheEnigma0, @Nitrogen & @LiamRynn, who won Avenger Main last Friday. The Bates features too, in 793rd place.

    Back to last night, in 3rd was waller02. Here's a player who would almost certainly do well at higher stakes, I'm quite convinced of it, but lacks self-belief. Except when it comes to alcohol consumption.

    Our man Slightly Super_Oli was 4th. He began 2021 well with 2nd in BWBH & a Turbo win, but since then he's gone part-time.

    @TheEnigma0 219000 1 £211.70 + £117.08 Head Prizes 4

    @Lukeyyy10 0 2 £138.70 + £69.60 Head Prizes 6

    @waller02 0 3 £85.78 + £59.06 Head Prizes 5

    @Super_Oli 0 4 £69.35 + £47.81 Head Prizes 4

    @DONATE2ME 0 5 £56.58 + £24.38 Head Prizes 3

    £6,000 Predator Bounty Hunter (£9,030)

    A double double for Sunday8pm, not only two wins on the night - 7 @ 7 & Main - but it was his 2nd Main Event win in less than a fortnight as he won Hitman on Christmas Eve. His best score of 2020 was a boomlet Avenger in May which netted him over £2,700, so that's yet another Main Event he's won.

    2nd was WIG23 who won UKOPS 08.

    Despite suffering from back pain - see his Forum thread - SWOG eased his way into a very fine 3rd place.

    5th was johnnyy, who was not a million miles off the Sky Poker FT Jackpot - 5th in the Main & then 11th in the Mini.

    @Sunday8pm 1505000 1 £1196.47 + £485.23 Head Prizes 11

    @WIG23 0 2 £713.37 + £204.45 Head Prizes 9

    £2,000 Mini Predator (£2,185)

    We might just have a lively newcomer here. Pretty sure Mmmchicken made his Sky Poker MTT debut last night, winning the Mini, running 7th in Sheriff & 3rd in Turbo. That's some debut. One to keep an eye on.

    In 4th was glencoelad, flying the flag for Edinburgh.

    @Mmmchicken 874000 1 £273.12 + £76.64 Head Prizes 11

    @LukeyK 0 2 £152.95 + £11.82 Head Prizes 3

    £1,000 Mega Stack B/Hunter (£1,460)

    Yay, The Bates wins his first featured MTT of 2021. Worth remembering how good he used to be, in the last 5 years in the Sharky MTT Profit leaderboard he's finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd & 2nd. He fishes in shallower waters these days, but this was an exceptional effort as he had to beat the super solid ufud heads up.

    @MattBates 730000 1 £211.70 + £122.04 Head Prizes 5

    @ufud 0 2 £138.70 + £114.56 Head Prizes 9

    £2,000 Sheriff Bounty Hunter (£2,750)

    Goodness me, what's happening here? Nitrogen won his 2nd in 2 nights, having taken Tuesday's Summit, & now adds Sheriff. Impressive in itself, but I've just noticed quite an oddity with his MTT play - he generally only plays 2 MTT's per night. Last night it was just Main & Sheriff, ditto the previous evening when he only played Main & Summit. That makes his current results all the more impressive. Maybe keeping his table count low is part of his secret? It's certainly not normal with big winners, they more usually have 6 or 8 MTT's on the go all the time.

    As ever with Sheriff, a tough FT, that included Arrogant, StayOrGo, fnvix35 & Crushy.

    @Nitrogen 275000 1 £508.75 + £360.65 Head Prizes 8

    @Arrogant 0 2 £302.50 + £275.76 Head Prizes 11

    @StayOrGo 0 3 £206.25 + £57.71 Head Prizes 1

    @mcaulay08 0 4 £151.25 + £155.86 Head Prizes 8

    SPT Online Semi (23 entries)

    PBKR, Sharki0 & candyking7 all paid in to the £48 Semi & booked their seats.

    Bernie02 played a £2.60 All-In, won it & that took him straight to the Semi.

    Most impressive of all was Duesenberg who did the whole thing, starting at £2.30, winning that, then £10.50, ditto, before eventually scrambling over the line in 5th & booking the last seat. Don't get me wrong, Duesy is no fool, he abso crushes 2p-4p cash, but he's playing against the big boys here. He's certainly one of the better minnows on the site.

    Definitely part of it. I've done the "open every MTT less than $100" thing on Pokerstars for years and it becomes clicking buttons. There's no doubt the profit in the long run will be less with fewer buyins, but the ROI is definitely better.

    I love live MTTs because you get a real feel for how the small player pool in a casino plays - and Sky has that vibe - I'm a comprehensive note taker and there's so many adjustments to make on top what Jonathan Little describes as "a fundamentally sound strategy". Main thing I do is pay close attention to the hands I'm not in - I review every pot of note in the hand histories and it definitely makes a difference in marginal spots and helps find bluffs that would otherwise get missed.

    Also once I bust in the tournaments I open up the cash tables and hopefully that covers the loss in reduced volume.

    Also getting AA v KK heads up last night helped :)

    Not really relevant to this but to give a bit more info about me - I've been playing for 20 odd years and fallen in and out of love with Poker many times.

    Most recently I played a lot of PokerstarsVR (which is for play money) but became the richest player in the game for over a year and the first Billionaire.

    One of the great things about this was that I got to play with even commentate on one occasion with Joe Stapleton and spend a few hours each week playing with Chris Moneymaker on the PSVR featured game shown on their twitch channel. Absolute highlight sitting with him and chatting even if it was in VR.

    Here's my Youtube channel with a bunch of VR and some real cash stuff I made. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAmEdh_A8HglVWnFgoskPGA

    In the end though the lure of real money drew me back and after grinding Stars for a few months and getting jaded with that I'm really enjoying the games and community here.

    It's taking rather longer to write them than I anticipated, but I hope to continue with the current format.

    Interesting story about this Tony - The runner up WIG23 had the same location as me, Bury St Edmunds which is pretty rare. Anyway we ended up on the same table 10 or so out and naturally I enquired where he lived etc. Cut a long story short it turns out that 15 years ago we played as a strike partnership in a Sunday league team and we both know each other fairly well!
