Many years ago, I worked in a Legal Call Centre. It ran 24/7, and there were regular deals to swap the less desirable shifts.
Emails came to us all from a colleague. When he wasn't being a Solicitor, he did up cars and had them taken off the Write Off Register. Number 3 did the trick:-
1. Any chance someone can cover next Saturday 9-5 in the Office? Obviously, pay for the shift will be yours...
2. I'm desperate to get rid of that shift. As well as the money, I'll let you have a drive in my latest car...
You would think that if you're transporting that kind of money around the first thing you'd do is make sure that the vehicle is roadworthy so not to draw attention to yourself.
'I can fit in that car': Detroit rapper sues after Lyft driver says she won't fit in his vehicle, refuses ride.
The Brief.
A Lyft driver told Dank Demoss that she couldn't fit in his car so he couldn't give her a ride.
Attorney Jonathan Marko said weight is a protected characteristic in Michigan, so this was illegal.
Demoss, whose real name is Dajua Blanding, is now suing for discrimination.
Dajua Blanding, known on stage as Dank Demoss, requested a ride to a Detroit Lions watch party earlier this month. However, when the driver arrived, he saw Blanding and told her he couldn't give her a ride because of her weight. Blanding was recording the encounter.
The backstory:
At first, the driver told Blanding she wouldn't fit in his sedan.
"I can fit in this car," she can be heard saying, to which he responded, "Believe me, you can't."
The driver then told Blanding his tires couldn't handle the weight, apologized, and mentioned ordering an Uber XL - a larger vehicle. He added that he would refund the ride so she wouldn't be charged.
Blanding says she could have fit.
"I've been in cars smaller than that," she told FOX 2. "I just want them to know that it hurt my feelings."
Blanding has retained attorneys Jonathan Marko and Zach Runyan to sue for discrimination.
What they're saying:
"I knew that it was illegal, and I knew that it was wrong," Marko said.
He said weight is a protected characteristic in Michigan. Marko said that denying someone a ride based on their weight would be the same as denying someone because of their race or religion - at least under the law.
Lyft drivers can turn down passengers for perceived security threats, but Marko said they cannot deny a ride based on protected characteristics.
The other side:
Lyft released a statement:
"Lyft unequivocally condemns all forms of discrimination—we believe in a community where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness. Our community guidelines and terms of service explicitly prohibit harassment or discrimination."

Man, 86, Who Was Charged with Shooting a Black Teen in the Head After He Mistakenly Rang His Doorbell, Accepts Plea Deal Andrew Lester may face up to seven years in prison for the 2023 shooting of Ralph Yarl
The Missouri teen, who was 16 years old and a junior in high school at the time of the shooting in Kansas City, had gone to pick up his two younger siblings from a friend’s house. After mistakenly ringing Lester’s doorbell, the man allegedly shot him in the head through a storm door, according to a probable cause statement obtained by KSHB.
Lester then allegedly shot Yarl a second time as he lay on the ground in a pool of blood, and Yarl was later able to stand and get help from a neighbor, per multiple reports.
Yarl — a clarinetist and a recipient of the rare National Merit Commended Award — suffered a brain injury from the incident, and his recovery has since been called “inspiring” by those around him, according to local news outlet KSHB 41.
Customer sacked from job after horrific Donald Trump comment they wrote on receipt at Mexican restaurant.
A woman in the US has been sacked from her job after she left a horrific Donald Trump related comment on the receipt after she had a meal at a Mexican restaurant.
She went to the Cazuelas Mexican Cantina in Ohio on 2 March and left a message for her waiter Ricardo where she made reference to Trump.
In the area of the receipt where a customer could write in how much they were going to tip, the woman wrote: "ZERO, YOU SUCK."
Beneath that comment telling her server that they wouldn't be getting a tip from her, she added the comment: "I HOPE TRUMP DEPORTS YOU!!!"
Since Ricardo is a US citizen, this would be pretty much impossible to do, and Newsweek reports that the restaurant said the woman became angry over their 'one coupon per table' policy.
They also report that in a post on her now-deleted Facebook account, the woman initially tried to claim that she wasn't the one who made the comment and had said that her credit card had been lost or stolen.
She wrote: "My credit card was lost/stolen, and someone attempted to use it. Thanks for the notifications! This has been reported through my bank."
They added that she also posted about the matter on LinkedIn, which has also been deleted, saying: "Thank you for all the recent notifications of scammers and profile hackers!
"I recently discovered a lost/missing credit card and an attempted use/purchase. I appreciate your patience while I manage the situation."
However, the Mexican restaurant reviewed their CCTV footage and were able to confirm that she had been there.
In a statement the restaurant said: "We believe in the power of respect, tolerance and acceptance.
"Recently, one of our team members faced an unacceptable situation, and we stand firmly against any form of hate or discrimination.
"Together, we will continue to create a welcoming space for everyone. Thank you for your unwavering support!"
The woman had been an employee of CENTURY 21, who released a statement confirming that she no longer worked for them.
They said: "We are aware of the situation with the agent in question. Hate has no place within the CENTURY 21 brand, and we are taking this very seriously.
"After investigating the situation and connecting with the respective broker, as all companies affiliated with the CENTURY 21 brand are independently owned and operated, we can confirm that this agent is no longer affiliated with the brand."
A GoFundMe has been established to donate some money to Ricardo, and has currently amassed over $22,000 in donations.
