A recs tale

Hi Gang have been thinking about doing a diary for a while so with the new year I might as well give it a go. It will be slightly different from the others on here as I am not a grinder or I don’t have any major goals I would like to hit. More of a diary of an average recreational player with some life stuff thrown in.

Lets get the background out of the way.
Playing on Sky since early 2012 (cannot believe it has been that long). Just plodding along for the first four years winning a bit then losing a bit and playing way above my skill level. Played all formats cash dyms and mtts. Just your average recreational player logging on at night trying to win a few quid. Then in early 2106 I joined a group of really good guys and players who have helped my game immensely and have been there for me through the most desperate time of my life, more of that later. The group Jac ,Hhy ,Tomgood, CPFC ,Hendrick and LMFAO . All great guys. Good advice for new players or people struggling with their game find players better than you and ask for advice and it can really help your game.
Playing wise I usually reg the same games every night starting with the mini then the 9pm £200 gtd the 9.30 £3 rebuy (favourite mtt by far) and the speed game at 10pm. So as you can see not particularly exciting but passes the nights away.

So a bit about myself.
I am from Ireland and have been with my partner for 11 years. She is Finnish, so we go to Finland a few times a year which is great, expensive but really nice country and has a lovely casino right in the middle of the city. Have spent a few nights there and the expression crazy Fins is very true. Liverpool fan so I can expect a few messages from Hh today, I think we have a good chance as we have a great record at home versus them.

As I mentioned earlier on its been a pretty horrific time personally since October 2016.My younger brother who is married with two kids was involved in a serious RTA. It has left us as a family devastated and to deal with life changing consequences. We where very lucky we didn’t lose him that day but we are left to try and deal with what seems like a new problem every week. He is still in hospital and physically he is fine but has suffered a serious brain injury which has led to a lot of problems. Needs 24 hour care at the moment and not sure if that will ever change.

Just thinking about it might set myself some goals.
To have a profitable year at the tables.
Get along to another SPT this year as they are a really great event. Maybe even try and cash in one.
Really want to get back to Vegas. Brag alert ! Played 1 WSOP event and cashed so would love to give it another go.
Oh and stop regging them all in sats : )

Apologies about the layout hopefully it improves with more posts.

Any questions comments fire away

Great to see you do this Pat, you may have to set aside an hour or two to answer the questions....

    a) Do you know anyone who's met Brian Lara?

    b) Man Bag or Rucksack?

    c) Do you suddenly dance with old ladys in pubs?

    d) What does The Spiderman picture mean?

Will follow like a mad thing and add this to my little coterie of diarists who I follow. Glgl.

    Questions:

Do you know that you can get a ferry and train ticket from Dublin to ANYWHERE in the UK for £45?*

Did you play poker in Finland?

Favourite Liverpool player of all time?

*unless they've stopped doing this in the last year or so, in which case you can't

Just checked have won it 5 times and have a lovely shark icon for that particular mtt. It seems to be my level. Although with players like @MattBates playing it now it has got harder.

Really looking forward to reading this, it will be fantastic .

    Thanks very much mate.

    1) No chance at all .
    2) Cad ? ;)
    3) Controversial but joux

Poker seems to be going fine , as you know all to well if only life stuff could be as good.

Cocktail has to be the black Russian with Guinness top .

Ah directions again I have to say I am hopeless in that regard. Still use sat nav when going to places I visit at least once a month. You still got a better tour of Dublin that @Jac35 did.

David Silva all day everyday the guy is a genius.

Salah has been unbelievable since joining us. If only we had a goalkeeper who didn't send panic waves to our defenders.

Nice, I wish that was true but have let myself down in the past in chat. In my defence usually I will apologize straight away if not next time I see them. Its one of them things I should be better at.

    A) I do recall hearing a story about him but for the life of me cannot remember who it was :)

    B) I love my man bag

    C) I do although to be fair i don't think she was taking no for an answer. Thanks to all you guys for joining in and not just pointing and laughing.

    D) Something to do with New York I think ;)

That is a new one to me but as I haven't been on a ferry to the UK in at least 20 years I would not have known. Seems amazing value especially since we are fairly expensive city.

Did you play poker in Finland?

I have played in the casino a few times great fun. Just in profit on the poker front.
Had a really interesting night playing blackjack there one evening. Had a few hours to kill while the other half was in getting fitted for a bridesmaids dress for a friends wedding. So along I pop few drinks on board only high stakes on poker tables so gave blackjack a go. Playing away winning a bit losing a bit when this very rich lets call her a lady sat beside me. Typical rich Russian dripping with gold and fur. She was really rude flinging chips etc at dealer. I was playing 20 a go she was playing 200 at least. The more rude she got the more it annoyed me so I dropped to 10 euro and started playing really bad like hitting on 18 etc just so her cards got worse.I couldn't miss. Think I left between 300 - 400 up with her shouting loads of expletives in Russian at me. Good night.

Favourite Liverpool player of all time?

    King Kenny

EPL not much of a gaa fan although will watch Dublin a bit. Real fair weather fan.

3, Liverpool win the premier league or you win an SPT?
Not much hope of either but with a decent keeper I think Liverpool would be much closer to the top.

4, Would you wear the man bag while having a pint in Cabra?
    Would do and have done

5, Terminal one or Terminal two?

Unfortunately for you regarding our trips its Terminal 1 till I give up the nasty smokes.

    Pat,

There was another thread with the same Opening Post as this called "Pats Journey". I've closed it, as it appears to be a duplicate.

Had one of them nights playing yesterday. Usual mtts and pretty good tables starting at 8.15 but ended up out of all by 10. No bad beats as such but played terribly, just when I think I might have an idea what I am doing I have one of them nights. I know the bets / calls are wrong but for whatever reason it doesn't stop me from pressing the mouse. One in particular stood out. My note says will not fold top pair poor kicker etc. So I fire 3 streets with an under pair. I guess it is just another leak to fix.

I mentioned I go to Finland a fair bit but with the life stuff we decided not to go this winter. As you may know the Fins love a sauna. There is nothing more relaxing than having a sauna then sitting in front of a wood fire with a cold beer or cider. That is great when we are in the Helsinki house or the one in Lapland. The one I struggle with is when we go to the summer cottage in winter. So you are enjoying a sauna which the Fins like hot ,very hot 90 C plus then you are expected to jump in a freezing lake naked through a small hole. I do it every year but it is not a pleasant sensation.

The building in the background is the sauna.
