    297 lives left...

Well I finally broke my bounty hunter duck! I took three heads in the 73 runner £1,200 event, quite early on actually. In fact, I was leading it for a while and in the top three for longer, but I let the aggression slip and it was goodnight sweetheart. It cost me £22 to enter… and I walked away from it with my £22.50 of bounties, so I bought myself a Bounty this morning – irony, eh?

I spent £55 in the Main Event – one rebuy out of frustration (actually, maybe two), and one because I got it all in with aces against two others, who I guess decided to call for the value. I was against pocket fours and something even less desirable than that. A four flops and I go to zero instead of hero.

Elsewhere, a (potentially) loose three-bet call by me pre-flop with AJ saw the flop come down A J 10, so after the inevitable (rather large) continuation bet I raised all-in, thinking it’s too dangerous a board to flat, especially considering his three bet pre. He calls and flips KQ. I’m not sure what happened after that because I threw my laptop out the window… but upon retrieving it I noticed I had very few chips, so I’m guessing I lost that hand.

I skipped the Main and Mini on Thursday - instead choosing to read a little and basically just relax for the evening and not direct too much attention to anything... but I did boot up a £5.75 bounty hunter in the early evening and managed to bag 48th place from 110 runners with an all-too-common number of head prizes.

I also loaded a 10p/20p Mastercash table and really did my best to lose the £20 I stuck on there, but by the time I decided to go to bed (after five hours of only really looking at the table when it was my turn to act), I stood up with £26... so a whopping profit for the night of 25p!

As for Friday and Saturday nights - well, they are now reserved for cash at the casino... ;)

    Balance £2841

    Cheers mate.

There's certainly value in the casinos if you get the chance to do it. Just stay tight and play a thinking man's game and you'll clean up ;)

    Good luck this year.

Some of you may have missed me; others, not so much.

It seems I chose a horrible time to start a diary/challenge thread, as it became apparent shortly after I did that my first exam was on February 4th – ie, tomorrow. Financial Services, Regulations, and Ethics.

Yes, it truly is as interesting as it sounds ;)

Anyway, this is just a quick note to say that whatever happens tomorrow, I’ll be back on the horse shortly thereafter.

    Run well and flop better.

I was shaken awake this morning at about 3 - not by a cute redhead lying next to me, I hasten to add. There was a beep beep beep somewhere in the house. An alarm. It wasn't my watch, or the clock on the bedside cabinet. What on earth was it? I went from room to room looking for this mysterious sound. Just when I decided that it was in my head and not in the real world, I went to the toilet...

    ...and there was the culprit.

It was a mirror! Yeah, that's right. What the ****? Staring at my reflection I even managed to catch how daft I thought that was.

I was given a fog free shaving mirror for Christmas. Great and long overdue. But, question: why in the name of all that is sensible do I need an alarm on my **** bathroom mirror? That is where guys shave these days, isn't it? Am I shaving too long? Is it in case I forget to get out of the shower when I'm done? Am I falling asleep on the pot without my knowledge? If I am then yeah, maybe I do want an alarm next to the loo roll, but otherwise, no. Let me shave in peace, please.

    Sigh.

Failed. 100 questions. 63%. Pass percentage was 70.

But I had my writer's hat on, and there were a fair number of questions that were worded quite poorly, thus throwing me off the scent.

I'll take the weekend off and then book it in for a couple of weeks time I reckon. No, wait... that's the UKPC. I'll wait until after I take that one down ;)

Er, yeah... that did cross my mind ;)

In other news, I have booked ten nights accommodation in Nottingham for the UKPC - Feb 20 - Mar 1 - and bought in to the Mini Event on the 21st. Fingers crossed I place in the top fifty and bag myself a seat to the big one.

Anyone else here playing the Mini on that day?

I've decided that I need to keep my 'live play head' on, so I'm probably not going to play on Sky (or on any other site as it happens) before the UKPC.

I've had a good run playing cash at the weekends. In fact, I've actually made more money (just) on Friday and Saturday nights these last two months than I have done in my regular day job - scary thought - and I've never really thought of myself as a cash game player.

Having said that, last night the poker gods decided to put me on the canvas for a while. I was dealt aces twice in half an hour. I lost £60 the first time when J 8 decides to call and turn a straight; and £90 when J 10 turned two pair. It happens, eh? Yeah, it does. But twice in such a short space of time was tough to take.

Anyway, I'll be driving down to Nottingham on Friday evening and I'm playing the £110 Mini Event on Saturday afternoon. Apart from that, I'll just be taking things as they come, but hopefully I'll get a few cash sessions in and maybe bink a seat to the Big One as well ;)
