Surely there is somebody on this site that lives close to you that could take you to a casino for some experience. If you fancy a day out in Blackpool, im sure a few TPTers wouldnt mind an extra one.

Chilling  i've been to lots Vegas twice before and only played roulette because I was too scared to play poker this is a bad case ofavoidance behaviour  because I should be called shaky Ned   This could be so embarrassing  I don't know if I can even pick the chips up  I know this sounds pathetic but I'm just being honest  I know I've got to sort this out quick so I might go to Southend Casino if so I will let it be known how it went thanks yan

Oh bless ya. Just go for the experience. Once in a life time. I've only played live twice. You will be with people that will put you at ease. The sky lot that are going are a fantastic bunch. Don't forget a lot of them will be nervous too. Your more than welcome to Come up to blackpool on 10th-12th as we are celebrating flash jonnys b.day. Also be a great way to meet other sky regs too. Even if you just come up on Saturday for the day you would be made more than  welcome. If decide to come send me or poker trev a pm and will arrange things. Enjoy every minute. Xx

Morning Ned, & congratulations. I can understand your nervousness, but really, there's no need to worry, what's the worst that can happen - you have a wonderful week in Las Vegas at a beautiful hotel, meet a bunch of people, have some fun with the other qualifiers, meet Neil Channing, & if the actual Tournament does not go well, so what? There will be a lot of "first time" players there, & you'll be fine.  You are 60 years of age? Fine. There may be at least one other on the trip who is considerably older than you, or so I'm told.   My first bit of advice would be to, as Markycash wrote, read the 5 "Guides to Las Vegas", which can be seen HERE When you have done that, if you have any more questions, come on here & ask, or send me a PM & I'll reply.   Assuming you have a current machine-readable Passport, your first job is to get yourself an ESTA. It's quick, simple & cheap, & it only costs $14. DO NOT do anything until you have sorted the ESTA. Any more questions, just ask.

The worst thing that could happen is that I'm shaking so much I can't pick the chips up I go brain-dead at the table  and then die of embarrassment  perhaps a cocktail of alcohol and beta-blockers may help  i'm thinking of changing my poker name to  shaky ned  it took me about six months to be comfortable playing on the iPad on my own lol but true  anyway by For now and thanks shhaaakkkeee ned17 yan

    Hi Ned

    Please DO go
You will have a fantastic time.
I went last year and it was an experience that I'll never forget. All the people at Sky are wonderful and will do everything they can to make you feel at ease.
You can clearly play, as you've qualified. So no need to feel uncomfortable there. If you feel that nerves might get the better of you the. Just announce your action. Raise to 2000, call etc. Once you've done that you can take as long as you need to put the chips in the pot.

Going to a local casino first might well be a good idea. Just to get the feel of playing live. Make sure it's dealer dealt though.

    Good luck

jac35 I'm so pleased you had a great time,  I hope I do go because I know I will regret it  But  I have a bad case of a voidance  behaviour  that I have let Rob may of so many good experiences,  I only blame myself for this, I know a lot of people have  worse crosses to bear than this to,  it might be hard to believe but I am a happy go lucky bloke, and up for a  laugh thanks ned

I always thought players that expect to win get nervous, those who dont expect to win have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

I think the fact you started this thread instead of just deciding not to go shows that in your heart you would want to attend, my advice is to not overthink about the idea of going but instead focus on what you would like to do while you are there. If you are going to worry about anything then worry about playing the tournament because that way when it comes to the day of the event you will already be in Vegas, have made some friends, and even if you go out on the first hand you will still have a great time and can enjoy a free holiday at the very least.

    good luck with it.

Hi Ned, I know exactly how you feel.

I would advise you to play somewhere live before you go if you can.

I've never set foot in a casino but play almost everyday online and love it. A few months back I went to a local card room (purely because it was a charity event for something that was very personal to me) and this was my first time playing live.
I was very uneasy, I felt most of the players had something dodgey about them including the owner of the club!
I sat out most hands (nothing new there) just to get a feel for the table. I doubled up in the first hand I played which changed a lot as then I was more relaxed and I went on to finish third. However I havent rushed back as it just wasnt my comfort zone, the topics of conversation etc were not my type of convos!

Im sure Vegas will be very different and in some ways probably even more intimidating, I wouldnt like the idea of traveling over alone or with Sky players etc as they are strangers to me. However I value the thoughts of people like Markycash, Jac and Tikay so if they advise to go you should go!I think those advising you to go are people with a lot of casino experience and obviously loved those experiences so just have a back up as to what your going to do apart from poker and be ready for the possibility of not liking the company at the table and amuse yourself in whatever way you can.

Hope it works out for you and best of luck!

    Ger

You are right I'm more than likely trying to comfort myself with information  I know the logic behind all this sort of thing  there are times when you just overthink  and it may feel like it's slightly outside your control even though you know its not,  I definitely want to go, and hope I do, thanks ned

Can you take a friend/partner with you? This trip is obviously more than just a tournament and when you have free time you'll be able to spend it however you so wish.

Would love to hear you boarded a plane and had a good time.
