Women have more things to do and are constantly on the go, such as the usual stuff as well as looking after children, stopping them fighting etc. Men maybe better at poker and maths but it's always been seen as a male dominated sport. Such as case in point the construction industry. How many women worked in the construction industry years ago? Me I wanted to get my CITB license and learn to drive a JCB as I would be only a handful of women to actually do that in a male dominated world. Sadly that goal has yet to be achieved but one day I just may do that. To get more females playing in a male dominated world then attitudes regarding women in poker needs to change. How do you get more females intrested, that I don't have a clue about. Also could be expendible income could be a factor in it too. Males may have more expendible income to spend on poker than women. Just a thought.
I agree about the post with the scantily clad young girls at DTD, it's outdated.
I think its biologically agreed men do have a very slight advantage on women when it comes to poker, but that edge is definitely small enough to still compete on a level playing field, a lot more should be done to get women in to poker because to virtually ignore 50% of the population is crazy for the future of poker, but that needs to start with live venues, ive only played in 4 casinos/card rooms so im far from an expert, but there are a few simple changes that will have to happen soon, scrapping the scantily clad waitresses and massage girls (dtd) its proper cringe-worthy in this day and age and i personally believe headphones/ipads etc should be banned (maybe with the exception of long multi-day mtts) because i think its intimidating to all new players when most of the table are acting like robots, i think social interaction should be encouraged wherever possible too, as for online, womens only events would certainly be a big boost in the short-term but probably arent the greates idea in the long-term, I would say forums are a huge + for equality within poker though as id guess there is a far high percentage of women who are active on poker forums than there is actually playing poker. Completely agree. When 2 Essex people think something is too tacky for words, then case closed! Massage girls would be ok if there was ever a male version

I would love a male doing the waitressing as well as women.
I'm genuinely surprised at how retrograde some of the views in this thread are. From both men and women. Rainman's post was dead funny though. Posted by SR23

I'm surprised you're surprised. It was always going to go off topic with stereotypes being slung around by both both parties.
The Dusk till Dawn girls in hot pants were wearing the require uniform for the job. They were not Topless or did they flop their air bags on the tables. They were attractive young ladies catering for players needs. If more ladies were players and asked for the services of the Dream Boys .... I'm sure the organizers would have provided them. If your trousers didn't move that's your fault not the young girls. ?

No-I want "them" dealing cards and filling half the seats at the table, being treated as human beings rather than objects from a particularly bad Carry On film....
On the original subject, I would mention that women tend to read other players slightly better than men...

They were doing the job they were employed to do by the casino as Physiotherapist or table waitresses, I spoke to one girl she had Uni degree in Physiotherapy and said her friend work for football Club nothing to do with sleaze equality they're being stereo type'd because of dress ....... or lack of it.? You've fallen into the Political correct brigade.

they are more than capable of still being employed by the casino, and still doing the same jobs in normal waitressing uniform, and if that was the case more women would play poker in that establishment. I have no issue with the women working there, good for them, my issue is with the guys running the casino who, like you, seem stuck very much in the past.

Unreal.
I had been avoiding this thread because it started on iffy ground then descended downhill, I didn't expect it to hit these lows though.
Couldn't let those comments go however. What a way to "celebrate" international women's day.

Back on topic.
I would be interested to hear more thoughts from women as to why more women don't play though. Above attitudes won't help, and I suppose no women who don't play will be reading this thread.
I personally started playing poker in the common room at school and didn't play again until curiosity struck when Late Night Poker started.
Maybe something inherently attracts men more than women to the game, I doubt that there are any real fundamental differences that give men such an edge and clearly women can compete.
I guess women who want to start playing need to be comfortable in a male dominated environment. Vicky Cohren started by crashing her older brothers home games. Online should help make it easier for anyone to try poker yet despite that being an option for a good while there is still a large imbalance.
Clearly there are still many more males than females even trying poker in the first place so naturally there will be more playing. It is also a game that you can play into your 70s and beyond so if there has been an imbalance for decades it would take many more decades to equalise playing numbers even if 50% of new players were female.
Nonsense post by yourself as usual. Nothing to do with political correctness. Your quote was " Why you want them in the back streets instead" . I am sure I am not the only one who read that and taught you are implying that the ladies are offering other services. In Response to Re: Women can't play poker. : Posted by day4eire76
Not me I was happy they were part of the casino entertainment. Loved the Hot Pants/ were you there.???
Girls like to dress seductively to tease blokes all part of Courting or have you forgot .... you want them to walk around in bed sheets . !
P.S The girls chose the outfits as corporate image not the Casino why should they object ?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and these girls were beautiful ..... not Tarts as was suggested.
