Nice to meet you Steve! You definitely missed out on Saturday, it was crazy, a group of about 4-5 lads came into the casino drunk and all sat down at the table not really knowing how to play at all. Great fun and great value. A few of them actually steamrolled the regulars with their hilariously poor play but I managed to book some profit off them!

You too Ging. Saturday game sounds rad (yep, rad) but sometime those games see me hero-ing like crazy and dusting off two, three, four buy-ins. You seem to be crushing live at the moment - keep up the good work.
With double points on offer all weekend and a nice, fat March lying ahead (relative to a fairly skinny February) I've decided to make a push for priority next month. I know: thrilling.
Want to know what else is thrilling? Five weeks ago I heard about a local BBC competition for budding radio playwrights. "Wow," I thought, "I'm a budding radio playwright. And I've got a semi-decent idea for a radio play - I'll take a stab."
Turns out that "taking a stab", in my world at least, involves listening to a few radio plays, reading a handful of scripts and precious little else for five weeks. No note making. No let's-sketch-out-this-idea-and-see-if-it-works-ing. No nothing. Nothing of any substance, at least.
Until this morning, that is. There are a couple of days to go until the deadline still and so I sat down earlier and sketched the whole play out. And it works, sort of. And not only does it work (sort of) it doesn't just have a twist, it has a double-twist. And who doesn't like a double-twist? No one, that's who. Now all I need to do is write the thing.
What has this got to do with poker? Well, both nothing and quite a bit. For ages now I've wanted to achieve a degree of apatheia at the poker tables - a kind of passionless calm, without suffering. Wouldn't that be something? **** right it would. And if I can achieve a life of little suffering at the poker tables then perhaps my day to day life might be easier too. Or, perhaps, it works the other way: if I work on this apatheia in the real world, then it could bleed into my poker life.
Writing this radio play might not seem like much - but for someone who has consistently set out to do things like this in my professional life and consistently given up before I started, if I do get this play done over the next couple of days, it might just nudge me a little way along that apatheia-shaped path.
That's the plan at least. Then: Prio. Then: God knows.
Inspired by @Duesenberg 's handful of March goals, I've decided to follow suit.
They are, in no particular order:
- Reach Priority - Four figure profit* - Finish radio play - Meditate daily - Write two letters for Viz - No getting drunk - No hot showers, only cold
On paper this looks slightly grand but totally doable. On paper. In reality, I've lost nine out of my last ten sessions, so the first two are already looking bleak.
The others aren't looking great, either.
The radio play is half-written, shabby, and needs to be finished by midnight tomorrow. I'm going out for a friend's birthday tonight - with a coterie who like to sit around kitchen tables until daybreak - which puts both the "No getting drunk" and "Finish radio play" into jeopardy.
Plus, I've been skirting around the edges of the cold showers. Despite them doing me a ton of good, I've come up with a heap of reasons to avoid them: hot showers are good for my back, I might get ill in this weather from cold showers, I don't like having cold showers, and so on.
Tricky, then.
Still, let's end of a positive note, shall we? I meditated earlier, despite not really liking it. And I just sketched out a letter to Viz. Thin psychological and emotional gruel, readers, but I'll take all I can get right now.
Happy weekending, all.

Hi Steve Great read as always. Think I will offer some advice now I’m old enough to give it 😉 Priorities ~ Finish Radio Play, celebrate finishing by getting drunk, which will then put you in a good place to smash the tables ( figuratively not literally, or is it vice versa) and reach priority. Celebrate winning seat to Vegas by jumping in a cold shower.
Easy when you don’t put too much pressure on yourself to achieve everything at once.
Hope to see you in Vegas young man. Have a splendid, thought provoking weekend.
Oh, any mention of breathalyser for poker players in aforementioned play and I will sue you. Keep your chins up. 😊

Haha, thanks @tomgoodun, your advice is, as always, golden.
Best of luck for March bud - yours is by far the most entertaining blog on the forum imo.
I'm still not sold on this cold shower malarkey though!
Thanks very much dude, appreciate it. As for cold showers - try them, you might love them. Although perhaps my opinion doesn't count for much, as I seem to be the biggest advocate for cold showers on Sky Poker and have stopped having them.
But in an hour or two that's going to change. I've got one planned. And I'm not drunk. I've also just written a couple more pages of the play, so goals for March are looking a little more attainable. Only 8904 points until priority. Let's overlook for now that I've just had my tenth losing session out of the last eleven. Trivialities, if you ask me.
Good luck in your poker pursuits this month @SR23 ... but I'm just here for the radio play/Viz/lifestyle stuff if I'm being honest... apart from the cold showers- just brings back painful memories of living with mates (never do this) in a dingy flat in Wood Green (don't do this either). The boiler had a temperamental pilot light that was a bitc real pain in almost impossible to get going again... regular cold showers and no heating in a flat with single glazed windows and wooden floors throughout in the middle of winter
So, less cold shower talk but more of everything else please.

It somehow makes me feel better when I read that a competent (you might, with due modesty say half-competent) player writes that.

Ah, Wood Green. When I lived in Stoke Newington I used to go up there to buy trainers, go to the cinema, and dodge muggings. Good times. I'll try - and probably fail - to limit the cold shower talk, but do have vague plans to start getting in the sea towards the end of the month. Watch this space.

I'd snap-take semi-competency right now. I'm playing like an intellectual oaf.

tyvm indeed. I actually did try to change the diary title in the middle of last week but flapped around and couldn't figure out how to do it. So unless I find some resolve and try again - or if someone swans in and tells me how to do it - then we're stuck with it, I'm afraid.

Send me a PM with your preferred Diary Title, & I'll have a bash at amending it.
More bad news: I may be hungover. But it's opaque - I may not be. I reckon I had a night of fairly heavy drinking, not a night of getting drunk, so we're still just about on course to hit March targets. Except for the winning at poker bit.

So, a brief update on my goals for March, which were:
- Reach Priority Looking unlikely, haven't played more than half an hour since the weekend - Four figure profit See above - Finish radio play Yep - Meditate daily Nope - Write two letters for Viz Nope - No getting drunk Nope - No hot showers, only cold Yep, so far
A bit of a mixed bag, then. And by mixed bag, I mean bad bag. It's a really bad looking bag. Still, over three weeks left to make that bag look a bit better. Let's see, shall we.
