I think you giving the options on what we can bet on is the best way.
Certainly an option to have occasional "free" days where folks can bet on any sport or event they wish. Would need to frame the rules carefully though, plus it would be an admin nightmare for me having to settle, say, 6 different sports and 20 different events on the same day. Don't mind doing it occasionally though, or at least giving it a bash.
I need to brush up on my long forgotten spreadsheet skills though, doing everything longhand is a bit silly and very time intensive. Am sure I could get someone to set up a Spready for me though.
keep it simple sweet adding speciality sports like tennis/golf are 4 day events set betting is playing to select few i cant punt a tip it if know nothing about it so therefore not worthy of tipping it
I'd say keep it simple, pretty much as is, with a main evening event. Too soon to say whether the restricted betting options are a help or hindrance to traffic so keep it as is for now.
Maybe add the odd evening horse race?
If possible, I would like to see some specials for other major events though.
E.g. Golf Majors, Pick say First Round Leader and an overall W/O and an E/W bet before the event starts.
I thought maybe a correct score instead in the match might have been a good idea, and obviously people out of contention could have gone for a flyer and those near the top could have picked a more obvious correct score. Just a thought for the future 'coz I know how difficult the original tracking stats for people's choices must have been

Yes, point taken, & I certainly considered that. In fact if the Puppy Derby has been televised we would definitely have taken that route. I also considered that the Midlands Grand National starts relatively early (3.30 ish?), which is before many people get time to visit the Forum. The work-round to that of course is to let everyone know the day before, or earlier. In an ideal world, and if I were better organised, I suppose I should list all 7 events, day by day, on the Monday the Comp starts. Note "if I were better organised"......
In some ways it seems reasonable to, in a situation like this on Day 6, to "open it up" so that those without much chance of winning can get back in the mix. That's balanced by (trying to be) fair to those who have had a good week, got a great chance of winning, & would feel disadvantaged if we suddenly added a sort of "big odds" event.
Hard to know what is the right way to handle this.
If time permits we should start a separate thread to discuss this. (This exchange won't be seen by many, they just pop into the thread, place their bet & then leave).
I've certainly got a completely open mind as to how we improve things & appreciate all sensible suggestions. My goal is to get more entries, which could lead to bigger prizes, & as long as we are as fair as possible to all, I don't mind how we get there.
For sure, your suggestion would deffo rev the excitement up. Is it fair, though? If I were leading going into Day 6, I'm not sure I would agree. Of course, if it's made known in advance, then there can be no complaints.
Still happy to listen to feedback & suggestions for these comps.
For now, the weekly comp will continue, though at the risk of sounding like a broken record (does anyone under the age of 30 know what a broken record sounds like?) we need more runners. We seem to have plateau'd at around 35 or 40, so the next target is 50.
This week will be a bit flat, as it's a very quiet sporting week, but we'll still do it.
Also note, that in addition to these weekly comps, which engage us daily, we will run standalone comps - with prizes - for stuff like the Grand National, Masters Golf, maybe the World Snooker Championships, occasional Greyhound Races, & so on.
We are lucky to have this Forum - very few poker sites have one these days - so let's look after it, & try to get more players on here. That's the underlying plan.

Regarding Tennis as an option, you could pick out one match and you have :
Win market
Set betting
Total sets
Set correct score
Total games
Game handicap
So a bit heavier on the admin side , but plenty of options for people to get their teeth into.
Yup, I am fine with those, but presumably you mean the British grass court season, up to & including Wimbledon?
It's a bit awkward doing International events in the USA, Australia & the Far East, due to time difference.
The Open Golf would be a good one, too.

Thanks for the bump.
I'm a little busy right now, but would welcome a constructive discussion on ways we can improve these comps.
When I get a chance, I'll C & P across the posts on the other thread that were made this morning to help fuel the debate.

Thanks.
BRB.
The days can get populated as time goes by, some events suggest themselves others need selecting. We could be a month ahead.
Maybe winners get to select an event / venues etc on days that are empty or any system should work really.
Just post the playing odds on the days in question.
