I think I said once before that probably half of all bust outs just involve hands where there is not a lot you can do.
You have posted 8 hands on this thread. You got really unlucky on 2 of them-hand 2 (the KK) and hand 5 (KJss).
Hands 1, 6 and 7 you were unlucky, but those spots happen all the time.
3,4 and 8 were pretty much flips.
You have to be able to cope easily with 6 of them, and manage to get over the other 2. Or best not to play. Because poker will mess with your head otherwise.
You mentioned the WSOP Main-not playing it this year (just the Seniors this time), but have bust out in hands like these. Which hurts. But it remains part of the game.
Think ? , I feel, the point I wanted to prove, is made, if I cant get huge hands,in huge spots,to hold up, when I have, got it in,called it off, correctly, well, what can I say ?
to tikay, the 'bet only applied' to the above, but I would like to show the forum, two, and only two hands, from an MTT, from last Saturday evening.
And, I ask the Forums thoughts,in these two hands, which were less than 15 minutes apart, same player taking down both pots. And this was at 22.40 p.m Sat evening, and 22.39 p.m Sat evening, same tourney, same player(s). This was a bounty hunter.
Can,Matt,Phil,Tikay, explain to me, the logic and thought process, of the player, who took down, both of these pots ?
Hand 1, I am looking at pocket AJ ( I was stacked approx 4/5times starting starting stack)
I raise, with A J, that gets called, then an all in,from a player with approx. 1000 chips left, who badly needed a double up,and picked, his her spot, that player happened to have AK suited,in their seat, I would have done exactly the same,I call that players all in,looking at my pocket AJ ( with him, her, well covered )
So,help me all (please) what part of the Poker brain of the third player to act, thinks it is 'quality ?' profitable ? long term play, to call off, short stack shove (AK) ,short stack needing a double up,usually, has at least something feasible ?,which is then called off by mysekf,(AJ) and the third player to act, thinks,no respect to the all in,then my call, with I am calling both of them,with..... my pocket 10 4 off suit , please tell me how ? why ?
here is the hand ( and because I bet someone will get the wrong end of the stick, the action I am referring to, is all pre.
thankyou, sat at the tables with you,the point I am trying to make,is, Poker skill based ?, skill has to out, in the end ?, no one believes me, I do not know the concept, ( in a massive spot, key tournament moment, massive spot, when I get it in call it off, monster bad, and suck out, dish out a beat,to another player, against me,it is relentless.
That will get mocked, it is the truth.I try to be sanguine ! it is very tough.
Just to prove, ' run bad' And I mean, appalling bad, take a look at this ?

8000 MTT's, never folding that, in a million years,I believe, it is the locked up, stone called whotsits ? and never before, never since, has the entire system, gone into, what I can only describe, as a ten second freeze, fact,I cannot tell you, how bad that felt.
@misterpj I would get your spellchecker checked as "nth" has no "e" at the start (see OP). Sometimes, especially in poker, it is better to be lucky than good but overall good will out and be a lot more profitable in the long run.
It is in the WSOP Main. A man on my table is all-in with 2 cards to come. He is a massive favourite to win the hand-the only way he can lose is if running Jacks come down.
He says to the dealer-"if the last 2 cards are both Jacks, I am going to buy a puppy. And kick it to death." We all assume he is joking.
1st card is a Jack. The guy is on the phone to his local ASPCA branch, asking what puppies they have.
River-Queen. He hangs up. I THOUGHT he was still joking. But I was so glad it wasn't a Jack
Stop playing poker right now and spend 2 weeks totally away from the game. then after that spend 2 weeks studying the game from the start, yes I know, but go right back to the beginner videos. Start with the absolute basics, hand rankings, position, wet and dry boards etc. Download prefop charts, study them, get to understand the naunces of preflop and the ranges you should play relevant to position. STICK TO THEM and when you start to play again, if you do, be rigid. If utg has raised and been called by the HJ you should be dumping most of your holdings if youre in the blinds. Be rigid, dont let pretty cards influence you, play it like a nit. When you start to play again try DYMs where chip preservation is king. Learn to fold AA or KK preflop and certainly postflop.
I did this four months ago started back 3 months ago and am breakeven over that period. First time in 15 years Ive ran even over a 3 month period.
You never know it might just turn your game around.
I realise, only limited interest, but, as 'the guvnor' 'ripped me new one ! ' for not replying,I will try to briefly answer, what I have been asked, in reverse order.
(1) Mark, best wishes, in all your Poker endevours, you Sir, sound like ( a outstanding human being) zero sarcasim, I read enough elsewhere, to know, ' this world' needs more people like yourself ( non Poker ) and kudos to you. (please do not take that, the wrong way,all folks, doing 'charity work' deserve medals.
Poker, good luck with your challenge, well done on mini bink.
And, as poker ' fate' would have it, which two players, got seated right next to each other, from the get go, in a late MTT last night,on my right TheEdge949,for an hour,I watched your play closely, maybe you watched mine ?, my best hand, was ' catching the known bluff shover !' But I digress.
Just over a year ago, sharkscope rated me, mid eighties, today,it makes me wince, to look ! I think, it says something like, mtts, 8100 av buy in £3.60, rating 62,
I am well aware, of raise for value, AK (pocket) is a 'hobby horse' specific hand, of mine, for discussion, in that exact scenario, it might just have been, waiting (hoping) for the perfect card to hit the river ( to extract max value) and god forbid,a fantastic card to hit the river !,pretty obvious I would have got the lot ( the freeze, 100% genuine) never happened before or since, it last for my time bank, then straight back to normal.
Here is my AK suited, (huge pot) from the other evening,it was still 60 -40 % against me,on the river,I would really love to genuinely know, would, Matt, essexphil,FeelGroggy, and any forum players, layed it down,or ' gone for it' like I did ? nut flush draw, straight draw, etc etc AA (K)kicker
it might just have been, waiting (hoping) for the perfect card to hit the TURN ( to extract max value) and god forbid,a fantastic card to hit the river !,pretty obvious I would have got the lot
And, in closing, especially to Matt, I use %, as my own way, to 'review my play’.
Poker players, I am 'still in awe of' and could, watch, listen too, all day,
Mike Sexton, Doyle Brunson, and Phil Hellmuth, different reasons apply.
I have never forgotten,(1) from ages and ages ago, Phil Hellmuth, ' all I want, is to get my money in, as favourite', it has stuck with me, and you are 100% correct, spot on, after it has all gone in, % then irrelevant, the % I am interested in, is the when it goes in.
Doyle Brunson, was once upon a long time ago, having a friendly spat, with Kid Poker (Daniel), about a 'prop bet' , who they would take, in a MTT no limit hold em only tourney, Doyle Brunson went along the lines, he would have Phil Hellmuth, all day long, twice on Sundays, as his pick, and gave Daniel choice of any three players, against Phil Hellmuth, cannot remember all three, I can remember, one of Daniels choices, was Scott Seiver.
I want to believe, all of us, are playing Poker, in the following way.
(1) From a standard, straight, non juiced 52 card deck. (2) The above, given a standard, non juiced shuffle. (3) The above then dealt accordingly.
I do not want to 'believe'
EMPHASIS ON, the small paragraph below, is EMPHASIS, what I do not want to believe, but have listened to someone, who at least,'should have a clue' 'swear blind', the following.
EMPHASIS, I am NOT, looking or seeking, a keyboard war.
"...all I want, is to get my money in, as favourite...."
Worth mentioning that if you always get your money in good then you are doing it wrong. It's very often correct to get it in bad, as a 40-60 or whatever.

Wont ask again, hand I am going to show you now, in this post,
I flop it,93% good, I call off, a 10,000 shove, on the flop,20,000 pot,
Maths says ! 93 times out of 100, am I unlucky again.
I used to think, I could play Poker ?

surely Poker insanity ?
Your min raise giving the BTN 4to1 to call.
You win the hand as a 70/30 favourite but fail to win any more chips on any streets.
