The retired astronaut - the second man to ever step foot on the moon -said he had "tied the knot" with Dr Anca Faur, who is reportedly 63, in a small ceremony in Los Angeles.
He wrote on Twitter: "On my 93rd birthday and the day I will also be honoured by Living Legends of Aviation, I am pleased to announce that my long-time love Dr Anca Faur and I have tied the knot.

He writes to his son in prison and says “ I’m too old, the garden’s too hard and I know you would dig it for me if you could, maybe a neighbour can help?”
His son writes back and says “ Poppa, please don’t dig it, that’s where the bodies are buried “
A few days later, the old man writes to his son “ the FBI have just been, questioned me and the same time have sent a team in and have dug over the whole garden, I don’t know what you have done, my son?!”
Son writes back back and says “ Poppa, it’s the best I could do in the circumstances……”
