Under the headline, "Gloom at the Inn", the Sun uses its front page to highlight the ongoing plight of the UK's pubs.
It reports that just one in five could be open this Christmas, because of "crippling" coronavirus restrictions.
According to the paper, the impact of the latest lockdown - and ongoing uncertainty in the run-up to the festive season - might mean as many as 10,000 pubs are forced to shut for good.
Hindsight's a wonderful thing...the death knell of pubs isn't Covid, that's just the final straw...
The decision to allow supermarkets to become all embracing, sell everything at any price(lower) has changed the way we buy alcohol and our attitude towards pubs regretfully... not just pubs...look how many more independents will go bump= non essential=close BUT you can still get these non essentials(cheaper) in a supermarket
and yes I buy my alcohol on line and now Mon/Tue night live poker is no more, I don't frequent pubs anymore(atm)
Finally, there has been a surge in demand for scotch eggs, according to the Financial Times, since they were at the centre of a row about what constituted a "substantial meal" in tier two areas.
It says one food wholesaler has seen a ten-fold increase in orders, while some pub chains are considering adding the eggs to their menus after requests from customers.
One supplier, Scotch and Co, tells the paper it has now reversed plans to furlough staff. "It's all hands on deck," says the company.
What a WASTE of time and money: West End restaurateurs slam being forced to close as they throw out unused food after Covid cops clear away the last of London's drinkers before city enters Tier 3
As police officers (top) cleared out the last drinkers in Soho before London goes into Tier 3, restaurants were throwing out leftover food and drink (bottom) that will go to waste due to closures brought on by the tightening of Covid-19 restrictions. Hospitality experts have warned millions of pounds worth of food and drink will go to waste, as the closure of venues saw Christmas bookings cancelled during the industry's busiest time of year.
