BOXING 1990 & 1993 (1) & (2) Nigel Dark Destroyer Benn v Chris English /Sheriff / Eubank Senior

Take Bout 1 (1990) with my sketchy math, make it 32 years on
Could write tens of thousands of related words, many sub topics involving these two, that that would dilute the point.
So respectfully, not going into Benn Nunn or Eubank Watson or a lot more about these two,in and out of the ring.
2021 /22 as you can view below.
Two amazing fella's,both fathers & grandfathers, two large extended families, both have experienced (then and now) horrible life things,in and out of the ring.
Nigel's kids Conor,Dominic,Layla,India,Sade,Rene plus he is a proud doting grandad.
Chris kids Chris Jr,(R.I.P Seb),Joseph,Emily,Nathanael plus he is a proud doting grandad.
This is about Nigel & Chris & Connor & Junior
this clip only 35 seconds recorded just before Christmas, not ashamed to confess I 'blubbed'
why? for them to be genuine friends 32 years on after hating/detesting each other, a blessing in the truest sense 2022.
Plus, each has a top level boxing son.
Connor & Junior taken monumental ridiculous stick from the haters.Connor didn't fight as an amateur.
Neither needed to go down the pro boxing path, both have, anyone getting in the ring, has large in the Kahoona dept.

Connor, beautiful Mrs and his first son, stunning home, living the life pure (full on plant based) and the rest.
Ummed and Arghed should I post this?
decided to after Mr Williams chronic latest (as in today with Michelle Joy Phelps interview)
Won't reference the specifics, decide for yourselves, not much in the way of 'up top' and very non pc.
Junior always trained like a deranged animal, lives it so pure and clean, near two years with Roy Jones Junior.
I know for a fact Liam Williams is going to need to be beyond exceptional.
The boxing world has not seen (yet) how good at middleweight Junior is.
(the new and very improved Roy Jones Junior version of 'Junior')
Beats Williams, only ever fights at middleweight (forget super) giving away to much weight, every time.
ie v George Groves, weigh in to first bell,George put on at least a stone,he will tell you himself needed diaretics to make the weight (nothing naughty) as soon as weigh in over loading up on pure protein,Junior the opposite,he is bang pure 11st 6lb fighter, hope he never ever go up in weight again. If ? and it is an if,BJS ever fights again? the Junior v Billy Jo rematch, even now be a domestic firecracker,BJs no belts,Junior I hope does not agree to any fight, ever,at super middle,so BJs would have to come down, and forget any catch weight nonsense.
Junior Williams Dec 11th cancelled,Williams shoulder injury (hmm) Williams Ingle gym split (hmm)
Junior Williams Jan 29th cancelled again.
Surely surely (oh please Lord) it happens Feb 5th
Both A1 shape, full capacity crowd.nailed on
Raucous atmosphere, throwback to the 90s tear ups his father had.
Never have I for a Million reasons wanted one boxer to win in style,as much as I will Chris to win in style.
You see,if I am calling this correct,Williams tactics will include (Junior aware of this) hold, rough, plenty use of head,Williams is not bringing Marquis of Queensbury boxing master class.
To mock someone (to Juniors credit) he has not made public some very non pc stuff out of Williams mouth online.
This is proper personal to Chris,Williams made it that way
To publicly mock anyone for being educated says a lot about Mr Williams intellect.
Who would you rather have a game of no limit with ? Poker Ambassador Junior or Williams?
I hope the fight goes ahead as intended.
I double hope (as it is very clever)
the entrance music is what it is/was/is the music alone will get Williams ? attention for sure !

Not a lot are aware Nigel Benn Chris Eubank 3 actually took place !
Didn't end well either, filmed just after the Millennium.
The Gladiator Documentary, might be of interest if you have never seen it.

Nigel's warm up fight mid 1993 for Eubank 2 was v Lou (Louis) Gent, who was a very decent boxer, and plenty tough.
Lou earned Nigel's respect in that bout
3 minutes highlights below, that's Lou's trainer,my ole M8 and former neighbour Dave Nails Payne who you see in the first few seconds 'Lou Lethal Weapon Gent' Lou trained in Playa Bastian Lanzarote.
Prior,Lou had a boxing war with a prospect called Henry Wharton (drawn fight)
Wharton went in with Robin Reid, Chris Eubank) Nigel Benn.
After the Benn bout,Lou only fought one more time, lost and left boxing.
His daughter Demi said last year,Lou doing good, lives in Norfolk and a property developer.

Just spent my last hour at work hiding in toilets watching the videos posted on here so thanks 😂 Can remember watching all Benn and Eubank's fights on ITV with my Grandad when I was a wee boy and they are probably the main reason I've been a boxing fan nearly all my life. Nigel Benn v Gérard McClellan to this day is still my favourite fight and probably always will be.

"Connor & Junior taken monumental ridiculous stick from the haters.Connor didn't fight as an amateur.
Neither needed to go down the pro boxing path, both have, anyone getting in the ring, has large in the Kahoona dept."

Agree with this. Both get far too much hate for having famous fighting fathers. In the case of Eubank jnr however this is entirely down to his father for making ridiculous statements about his ability when he was still a raw prospect. He doesn't help himself with all that pouting and posing either. Benn I think gets so much stick because he was an absolute novice when he started out pro and it showed but he still got a big push on sky and he never looked any good up until he lost to that French journeyman (I know he never officially lost but he was well beaten) . He definitely doesn't get the credit he deserves for the improvements he has made since that fight and he does look like he has a chance of making a good career for himself after a slow start. He certainly has a crowd pleasing style and plenty of heart just like his Dad

Not really a fan of Eubank jnr but would really love to see him beat the scum of the earth that is BJS in a rematch. Think the first fight came way to early in his career and he still nearly won it in the end. Surely we'll get to see that fight again before they both retire? Don't see Liam Williams having much to trouble Eubank. He has never beaten an opponent who is beyond domestic level and only moved up to middleweight because he couldn't get past Liam Smith.

Agree with every word of that.

Particularly Benn v McClennan. What a fight that was.

Agree with every word of that.
Particularly Benn v McClennan. What a fight that was.
    thankyou gentleman,appreciate.
I have not (cannot) and never have rewatched Nigel v G Man (to painful)
was there, with a large group of family & friends, male & female, after that 1st round all of us thought Nigel a million.
Both fighters ended up hospitalised that night,Nigel passing blood for a week.
    Chris Eubank Senior Michael Watson
I am to old,and over the hill to fib,or exaggerate, simply special memories.
Cannot and never have rewatched Chris Eubank Senior v Michael Watson
    bout 1 June 1991 & bout 2 Sept 1991
I was fortunate,in that had a flat in Brixton & flat on the Hove seafront opposite the now defucnt King Alfred gym.
Brixton,I loved the place, and if 'work' it was London W2
    mainly thurs,fri,sat's at night,hence stayed Brixton.Otherwise,Hove.
    Chris Senior & Ronnie Davis,always ammeniable,Junior only a baby,born Sept 89.
Micheal Watson was a delight,in person with his then girlfriend weeks pre fight 2.
This was at Now & Zen St Martins Lane.
That place back then, celeb central,me personally, never done 'starstruck'
Michael had to walk past me on his way in,I might have simply said have a great evening and good luck for two weeks time, that was about it from memory.
Never, did I think he would take the time,to have a long long chat, after he had left,he instigated it with his girlfriend at his side.
Every single time, there were plenty,Chris Senior saw me,beyond a gentleman.
That bout & what happened to Michael, all boxers, everytime, put it all on the line.
never watched the fight back, all I know is Michael Watson was way ahead on the scorecards,Michael Watson dropped Chris Eubank in R 11,the rest is history.
Brutal uppercut, horrible impact (with floor) changed Michael's life forever.
I cannot, never wish to rewatch that fight.
Sat May 21st 1994 Chris Senior boxed Ray Close in Ireland for the 2nd time.
For reference, many times prior, many, Senior stopped chatted, inc driving his huge American truck & and that Hartley, driving home along Western Road bright sunny Sunday afternoon,Sunday May 22nd about 2pm,I had to do a double take, there was Senior,no truck,no bike, no monocle, just tracky & trainers, walking home!
Hardly anyone around 'Chris' I involuntarily shouted '
he was in the ring in Ireland less than 14 hours prior' yet beckons me across the road, so of course I pulled over.
Up to the drivers window he bowls, happy as Larry, not a care in the world.
That Ray Close bout was the rematch, went the distance, plenty controversial!
Every boxing usual suspect in the ring at the bell.
Barney Eastwood, Don King screaming blue murder, a very young Frank Warren, of course Barry Hearn & Ronnie Davis et al, problem was ring announcer mis read scorecards, and read out 105_104 which is impossible!
Announcer meant to say, judge 1 Eubank judge 2 Ray Close and then 115_114, and a split decision in Chris Eubank favor.
Very quick healer was Chris, less than a foot from my eyes hardly a mark, only the slightest hint of swelling around his left eye.
    The point?
If I had not mentioned the bout,he wouldn't have either.Simply a brilliant fella.
So,I am his sons biggest fan,and then some.
    I cannot Fathom the haters?
So allow me,an attempt to change your mind,if your not a 'fan'
Superb interview, below, recorded at Juniors Hill Drive Hove home, days prior to James DeGale, not having James was all washed up for that fight,no chance.
That was almost 3 years ago, just pre the DeGale victory
    borderline impossible for Junior to be any more;
Humble, Honest, Truthful, Intelligent, well worth a close listen.
Plus,King George Groves immediately after the bout, asked his Dad if he could go in the dressing room to congratulate Junior,of course the answer was yes,the surprise on Juniors face at seeing George, first words Chris said to George 'your massive' muscle & mass not fat.
Even re James Degale ages after the bout, Chris on record saying no problems with James and that Degale had some granite chin.
Then, Covid, joins Roy Jones Junior trains full time on Roys farm Pennsicola.
Almost 2 years with Roy, and then...
    His empty home burgled.
Matt Koribov elbow injury,Marcus Morrison like a 12 round spar, Awdijan last minute replacement retired hurt, another 'horror' brother Seb dies training Dubai.
Liam Williams, well its been cancelled twice Dec 5th & Jan 29th.
    In the interim;
Junior on soccer a.m.(funny, humble, honest) & now a Poker Ambassador.
Will it actually happen on Feb 5th?
There is something about this bout nagging nagging me,hope I am wrong, hope Chris wins in style, and both fighters, walk away to enjoy life.
If Liam Williams wanted to fight a trained to the minute fighter with intense focus & belief who is **** bent on delivering the performance of his life
Mr Williams wish about to be granted.Junior All In.
Below Junior interviewed at home Feb 2019
Harlem Chris brother, 12 out 12 Pro record fighting on the undercard of Junior Williams, and trained by Adam Booth who Williams switched to straight after shoulder gate and quitting Dom Ingle gym.
Finally, Joe Calzaghe 49-0 & Mikkel Kessler.
What a fight 2007 at the Millenium 50,000
Kessler career fights 46,wins 43,losses (3) to Calzaghe, Andre Ward, and lost the rematch with Froch and retired.Below is Joe & Mikkel catching up after both retired, and joyous, brimful with mutual respect.Beautiful.

I've never been able to rewatch the Eubank-Watson fight, either.

I remember it was a good fight. And that Watson was ahead. And me shamefully failing to understand the terrible reason why the fight was stopped at the time.

I tried Boxing, very briefly. At least in part because I have a distant relative who was rather good. I don't think I lack bottle. But I do know that I don't have a tenth as much as any pro boxer.

Calzaghe was a bit like Larry Holmes. In that we will never quite know just how good he was. There may not have been the depth of top boxers or top boxing personalities when he was at his peak. But what we do know is that he was head and shoulders above his competition at that time.

maybe it's the anaesthetic still zipping around my system
(thanks to our superb hospitals with supreme skilled caring professionals who all,in my experience go beyond the call of duty, one can still function!)
Anyways, Mr Gareth (perma raybans) A Davis
    UK's self annointed Boxing 'Don'
    Just occurred to me.
Gareth the only fella ever, who has manged to achieve the win double.
Looking like,at the same time, both my late grandma & and my late grandad!
today, him eating a little humble pie after wading in on Anthony Joshua

and Gareth in 'dressing down mode'
fella makes me chuckle,I have my own personal reasons for being Juniors number one supporter, don't know what Gareths reason are?
He sure is Mr T Furys number one cheerleader.

Nigel & Chris were free to air on ITV feat 'Gary Mr Boxing Newbon'
    Benn Eubank 1 & Benn Eubank 2
Nigel makes jokes these days, imagine the purses if PPV for those fella's back then.
Was a great shame ( why L Williams irks me even more)
Both the Dads now great friends
Both Connor & Junior were scheduled to both fight on the same night Dec 9th at different venues
Both Dads were going to be at ringside,Nigel was for Connor as above
Senior would have been for Junior
but Williams 24 hours after presser (where the real evidence?)
shoulder strain day after the presser,ie fight off,and one single special moment in time both entrance music at different venues, could, would, could have been little bit special.
anyways, leave that (it nooded a wink to their fathers)
maybe Junior will go with it Feb 5th,if not Connors next fight, probably.
unless Sky have released it this morning?
Junior Williams Gloves Are Off still being held back, glimpse here when Chris did soccer a.m.
I have stuck up for this fella and had some 'moments' along the way his entire career.never wanted any boxer to win in style as I do 'will' Chris to succeed on Feb 5th
convinced something (nagging) about this fight, not sure if its the will it actually happen nag? If anything UK Anti-Doping drops like a whotsit,it will a million % not be Junior.
maybe the 'nag' is about the actual bout, accidental clash of heads early and a nasty cut? or something, something is going to happen I am convinced.

    as his father would suggest
    a little Parlimentery Procedure!
    9 days pre fight
the latest brief thoughts of Mr Williams & Junior
    have not checked,personally no interest
is Williams still promoted by Queensberry (Frank Warren) ?
    if so,Frank been uncharacteristicly mute.
Totally understand the requirement for all fighters assisting in show promotion, thats a given, however, this is different.
current live prices Williams best 23/10 Junior as short as 2/7
    (8/11 was best months ago)
    from Williams opening gambit
'this is a fight the British public have been calling for,for a long time'
Really Liam ? and you want to suggest its Chris who is dilusional !
Williams 'lets hope Chris brings his best'
Liam, your wish & desire about to be granted,Large.
Williams 'Chris is in for a rude awakening when he comes to Cardiff a week Saturday'
best dont let your army of home town fans down then Liam!
Williams 'if he wants to stand and have a tear up with me Eubank is coming off second best'
when you Talk the Talk best be able to Walk the Walk !
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UkFJbrDxSk&list=PLJsrpM1WM-hH6y5KJoq__PK0zOMNf5fXD&index=162&t=120s
Junior, when he is asked (again) about what Williams has said, its multiple over a long time,as Williams desperatly chased this pay day, vile stuff,of the disgusting variety,Chris not made it public,Junior repeatedly been asked, and answered I cannot repeat it on live tv pre watershed.
Mr Williams intellect questionable on multiple levels.

will post the clip on Monday
    if no one else does.
Liam Williams, latest (Verbatim by the way)
Williams to camera, and out of Williams very own mouth.
'I'm going to be hitting him low'
    `giving him the low blows'
    'giving him the headbutts'
    'elbow to the head'
His words, out his mouth, on camera
    Class tactics Liam,pure Boxing.
Well let's see, 7 days time, be the bell
    Never, Ever
Never, have I wished to see any boxer do an imperial Barry Gallahad Impression
as much as I am willing Chris, to smoke Williams bootz.
Come on Junior, this is your moment, 7 days from now.

I've never been able to bring myself to rewatch Watson Eubank either but have watched Benn v Gman back loads of times. You can see towards the end of the fight by way he is blinking something was badly wrong. Watson was a really respectful likeable man where as McClellan was in papers for torturing dogs before his fight with Benn and I love dogs so I suppose that's why I can watch one fight and not the other.

Was talking to my mate about it the other day. We did chip in money but that was for betting on the rounds.

Enjoyed the gladiator programme. LOL at Eubank "I thought i was just coming out here to recite a bit of poetry and do some poses"

Think it stated it on that programme - 16 million watched that fight

agree, would gladly meet my end defending any animal against any cruelty.
Correct, G Man another Don King 'special' and not any kind of good rep
    either of them,King or G Man,remember King thought G Man a certainty.
Boxing wise G Man was a machine, for Nigel to come back from r1 against G Man,makes Benn's performance sensational.
Honestly I know a bit more about that particular bout, and the afters
(from the actual real time) than dare write here.
Nigel gone on record/camera with 'some' details, when time,I try find and post Nigel telling it, exactly as it was, candid & honest.

There was a half hour show on Sky Sports last night with Eubank & Williams face to face.

    There are a few teasers here;

The full show will be repeated on Sky Sports on Wednesday.

I really enjoyed it, & I'll watch it again on Wednesday. Eubank is one cool dude.

I don't watch much boxing these days but this thread has revived my interest, & I'll certainly be watching the fight next weekend.

Believed to be sport's first $Millionaire. Last bare-knuckle champion. Alcoholic for many years. Later lay preacher, trying to save people from alcohol. Died skint. But lived a full life. Amongst other things, Mike Tyson's boxing hero.

And the inspiration for Long Johns ? Well that's what my dad always told me as he used to wear them all the time.
Because he was the first sportsman to get widespread coverage from the national press, a lot of stories were told. Undoubtedly some were true, and some were not.

He did wear "John L's", and there are various claims that that led to "Long Johns".

I have read that in 1 of his fights Wyatt Earp was the ref, with 2 drawn pistols. That he once fought immediately after consuming 2 bottles of whiskey. And won. In the 62nd round. (Not as mad as it sounds under "London" rules)

For people interested in the history of boxing, this is the wiki page and an encyclopaedia entry of my Great-Great-Uncle. He lived in different times.

Believed to be sport's first $Millionaire. Last bare-knuckle champion. Alcoholic for many years. Later lay preacher, trying to save people from alcohol. Died skint. But lived a full life. Amongst other things, Mike Tyson's boxing hero.
