The downfall of Hannah Ingram-Moore and the Captain Tom Foundation is a tale of human folly

Captain Tom charity paid thousands to daughter’s firm set up days before foundation established

A foundation set up in the name of Captain Sir Tom Moore paid tens of thousands of pounds to companies run by the fundraiser’s daughter and her husband – one of which was registered only days before the charity was incorporated.

In addition to that, so far the charity is spending more on expenses than it is giving to Charity. And, apparently it "needs" £500,000 in the bank to safeguard against future expenses. So-£1 million-plus raised so far (the previous "walk" funds all went to the right places) and less than £200k to charity to date.

    Which is a real shame.

When you looked at him and listened to him you saw a honest person albeit in later years trying to achieve something worthwhile. He won't be spinning .... rest'in.

    You appear to believe both:-

    1. That he was the "honest person...trying to achieve something worthwhile" AND
    2. That he was the sort of person who would not be worried that his own daughter/son-in-law appear to be using his foundation to rip off people giving money in his name

Captain Tom did some marvellous things. Not the money he raised-that just meant decent people paid more than their fair share of running the NHS, and less decent people paid less.

He gave us hope that there really is decency. He embodied the sacrifice of our NHS. He made us feel good about doing our bit, in return for the sacrifice he made. He really reflected the mood of the nation.

Not his fault what happens to our money after he has gone. But it does make the World look like the slightly tawdry place that he helped seem better.

And I really, really hope that, were he alive he would care.

Because I like my heroes to be exactly that. Heroes.

    This may help.

    Turning in his grave meaning
turn (over) in (one's) grave. (redirected from turning in his grave) To (hypothetically) show enormous anger, disfavor, or regret for someone's actions or something that happens after one has died. That is, if someone were still alive, they would be greatly upset, angered, or disgusted by what has happened.

He said, he would sooner make a friend out of an Enemy than an Enemy out of a Friend.

Taking that sentence at face value he may not be happy with them ( under statement ) but he would not disown them. Not uncommon for Family members to let the side down. Meow !

I dont doubt that you do speak English on occasion.
I dont believe anyone has said that he would disown his family.

Lets just say that if he was still alive, he would be very disappointed by their actions.

Well, it was difficult to hear what he actually said, but I did miss out the end bit.

" Get Swampy " a bunch of Flowers from me for Valentines Day."

    Thats me gone.
I really dont understand the point, meaning, or relevance of many of your posts.
    This being one of them.
I am not sure you realise what you are saying.
As Phil said earlier, you were in favour of both sides of the argument.
I dont wish to have a completely pointless argument.
    You just carry on.
