I try to avoid Amazon when I do order i tick the box stating i don't want Amazon prime or the free 30 day offer but they still take the £7.99 out of my account, I keep cancelling and they keep refunding which i shouldn't have to do
I have had Prime on and off over the years and the odd free trial.
In my experience, you've only got to look at the prime button and your subscribed.
When it comes to cancelling, you have to hunt high and low for the cancellation option, and when your nearly there , it throws obstacles in your way to get you not to cancel or put off cancelling for a few days.
One time when I went to cancel, what looked like a cancel button turned out to be subscribe for the year button.
It took the money instantly too, I got it back after a phone call.
Amazon is a great service, but they are slippery fockers.
I think they have made it much easier. There is now a memberships & subscriptions tab, and the cancel subscription box is quite easy to find. It is probably easier now than it may have been in the past.
I also appreciate that if a couple of million people take up the free trial each year, and half of them forget to cancel, it would amount to a nice little earner every year.

One of a few reasons I avoid Amazon unless no real choice. Their plan was to sell everything and they just about are.
Why do you avoid them?
1. Not a fan of monopoly companies, believe Amazon have gotten too big in the webspace for online shopping.
2. Dark patterns on the website, a hassle to buy something without being really, really sure you don't want Prime/free delivery.
3. Jeff Bezos wants/is going to sail his "superyacht" through Rotterdam and the bridge that is in it's way is to be dismantled.

Isnt that just the way things are going? I remember the days when supermarkets used to just sell food.

Whats new about companies trying to sell additional products to their customer base? I think Prime is really good value for money. I am not alone in thinking this. Prime has 200 million subscribers worldwide. I dont even look upon it as an extra payment, as after deciding to take it up, I knocked a couple of bits which I didnt need, off my Sky package. I still had kids stuff in the Sky package, and my Grandkids have grown up, and I could never appreciate the difference between HD, and SD, which costs £5 odd per month. I think I am just about to start saving a further £8 per month by cancelling Sky Cinema, as I cant remember the last time they released a decent film. So I think I got Netflix, and Prime out of the savings I made on Sky. I think I now have a much better tv package than I started with, for around the same money, with far more choice. In addition, I have gained a number of other benefits from Prime.
4. Jeff Bezos wants/is going to sail his "superyacht" through Rotterdam and the bridge that is in it's way is to be dismantled.
Wouldnt you like to be able to afford to do that? Look at it again, but with an open mind.
I have just cancelled my SKY subscription Entertainment package altogether. I only really watched SKY Sports Racing, and some Documentaries, and because I bought my Dad SKY (everything package) as a birthday present when it was on offer 2 years ago, I can get his package through SKY-Go. You can get it on up to 3 further devices, so I have it on my lappy, the wife's Smart TV, and on a Tablet that my daughters use.
When they said my Dad's package was going up to Full price after the Promo finished, I cancelled it completely....... waited 2 weeks 'til they offered him/me it for half price, and started it up again.
The only thing we miss is the record (programmes are repeated so often that that doesn't really matter), Pause/Rew/FF but we are ok with that, and can get a set-top box that does all that if we want.
Hope this helps anyone who is looking to save some penniz because of 'The BIG SQqquueeeeeeezzZE'

We likely agree in spirit in regard to having an open mind however I do not think I would ever get to a mind where sailing through a city and asking/telling them to dismantle a monument (built in 1800s I believe) so I can get through. This goes for any monuments, there are a few monuments I really don't like and would prefer to destroy or dismantle them, not this one.

I meant being able to afford the biggest yacht in the world of its type. The bridge is really a big red herring. The Dutch company that took on the contract knew it would have to happen, as it is the only route to the sea.
Rotterdam has confirmed it will dismantle a historic bridge to allow a superyacht built for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to fit through.
The record-breaking luxury yacht is being built by Dutch firm Oceanco and was linked to Mr Bezos last year.
The vessel is reported to be 417ft (127m) long and too tall to fit through the Koningshaven Bridge.
A spokesman for the mayor confirmed the plan to reporters, with Mr Bezos set to foot the bill through Oceanco.
Reports emerged in Dutch media on Tuesday that the middle section of the Dutch city's bridge, known locally as De Hef, would be temporarily removed to allow the 130ft (40m) high boat to sail through.
The move is controversial because the steel bridge has a long history, and is now a national monument. It previously went through a major renovation which saw it out of action from 2014 to 2017, when officials said it would not be dismantled again.
The AFP news agency quoted the mayor's office as saying the jobs created by the construction of the vessel prompted the plan, and pledged the bridge would be rebuilt in its current form.
"It's the only route to the sea," a mayoral spokesman added.
Met an older lady at the bus stop this afternoon. I had a 10 min chat about covid, her Post Office phone line which has stopped working since it changed to Shell and family.
We agreed on 1 of the 3 out of these topics It's not a great story but a story nonetheless

I'm an Amazon junkie and have been for years. I order so much from there that I've become the no 1 target for brushing 'scams'. I hesitate to call it a scam because free stuff just turns up from time to time and it's usually pretty decent, which is the whole point of a brushing scam. They expect what they sent you to be so good that you end up reviewing it.
Fwiw I even order Amazon brand loo roll on there. It's great value and top quality.

I have read your posts to my mother and she is quite in agreement with a lot of what you say. The quote "looks like he is onto a good thing". That's quite the compliment from mum.
Little background, she phones Sky, I would say twice a year to debate the prices and rightly in my view. She thinks Sky is pricey. It is and is antiquated too.
She will look into the HD stuff with Sky and phone to save the money over the next week or so. In the meantime I pay for her Disney and have cancelled my Netflix account which she uses up the stairs.
That Netflix account may not have been needed at all as it's no use to the account holder . She uses my sisters Netflix account downstairs so two other people's accounts.
You may have saved us money and gotten my mum to see clearer. What a night!
Having been caught first purchase and ended up paying eighty odd £ for full year sub not noticing till bank statement and getting shock which my neighbour got me refund and now as he loves them so much and subscribes plus know's all the ins an outs, I get him to order for me, sent to him knock on his door to collect. Down side I have to pay him for the Item...

C - Not really, what would be the purpose of it? To show-boat?
Great news.
H - Wouldnt you like to be able to afford to do that? Look at it again, but with an open mind.
Think I 'hear' you now
There was a time when I was paying Sky £120 per month for tv, broadband, and landline, with no Netflix. I now pay Sky £52.50, including Netflix, which I will reduce to £44.50 when I knock Sky Cinema off. In addition I pay £8 per month to Prime, and £22 per month to Now Tv, which is owned by Sky, for broadband, and landline. So the £120 will have shortly come down to £74.50 for what I consider to be a better package, with loads of extra choice through Prime, and Netflix.
Sometimes the formatting of your posts are hard to read so will attempt to break down my thoughts or answer your follow-ups as best as I can. Would need to put a time limit of 15 minutes on it as heading out soon
C- 1. Not a fan of monopoly companies, believe Amazon have gotten too big in the webspace for online shopping.
H - Q1 "Isnt that just the way things are going? I remember the days when supermarkets used to just sell food."
C- Is that ok with you? Not saying it should or shouldn't be, just a slight concern about other competition. Can't be good for the customers (us) in the long term surely?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I am not sure that me being ok with it matters, because it is happening anyway. Although I think that Amazon offer the best deal on many products, which obviously benefits consumers. I try not to get annoyed about stuff that I have no control over.
C - 2. Dark patterns on the website, a hassle to buy something without being really, really sure you don't want Prime/free delivery.
C - What's new about companies trying to sell additional products to customer base? Nothing is the short version and because of time I can't answer further at the moment.
Can't deny at the moment Amazon Prime is great value for money. I must ask though, is that the biggest factor for you?
You seem to be very happy with Prime and that can only be a good thing.
I think it is great value for money. I watch a lot of tv, listen to audio books, and my wife reads kindle books. That is why I subscribe. I wouldnt let any bridges being dismantled and rebuilt influence my decision

I also got 12 months free Apple tv when I bought my phone, and 12 months free Discovery plus through Sky. They both run out in April, so I must remember to cancel them before they start charging me.
Comments
There is now a memberships & subscriptions tab, and the cancel subscription box is quite easy to find.
It is probably easier now than it may have been in the past.
I also appreciate that if a couple of million people take up the free trial each year, and half of them forget to cancel, it would amount to a nice little earner every year.
I didn't moan , i realized i must have fuccked up fost time and duely cancelled , no refund , 2nd time whilst looking at my bank account saw 8 quid had gone out so i cancelled again i might have pulled my face abit but i didn't moan or complain not one bit , it's not my fault they refunded me , i wouldn't have give a monkeys if they hadn't
Get back in your box youth
You must be really OLD Stokey .......if you think @HAYSIE is a youth

That's the three main ones
When they said my Dad's package was going up to Full price after the Promo finished, I cancelled it completely....... waited 2 weeks 'til they offered him/me it for half price, and started it up again.
The only thing we miss is the record (programmes are repeated so often that that doesn't really matter), Pause/Rew/FF but we are ok with that, and can get a set-top box that does all that if we want.
Hope this helps anyone who is looking to save some penniz because of 'The BIG SQqquueeeeeeezzZE'

Met an older lady at the bus stop this afternoon. I had a 10 min chat about covid, her Post Office phone line which has stopped working since it changed to Shell and family.
We agreed on 1 of the 3 out of these topics It's not a great story but a story nonetheless
Fwiw I even order Amazon brand loo roll on there. It's great value and top quality.
