One thing that always strikes me when there is a violent incident, a murder, rape or whatever. No matter where it happens in the country, no matter what Police force, they the Police spokesman ALWAYS trots out the same cliches. They must have a National Script.
"Officers/skilled detectives are working tirelessly (or "night & day") to solve it"
"Specially trained officers". No matter what the incident, specially trained officers are always involved.
"Extra police presence on the streets to re-assure the local community." Complete bollox of course.
"This is complex and fast-moving investigation." There's never been an easy one to solve, or a slow-moving enquiry.
I have a little bingo card that I fill in when i read these news items.
