The 'baffled' diving expert leading the search for missing Nicola Bulley fears her mobile phone discovered on the bend next to the river was left as a 'decoy.' Ms Bulley, 45, vanished while walking her dog near the River Wyre in Lancashire more than a week ago. Police say their primary theory is that she slipped or fell into the river, despite not having found any evidence of this. Forensic expert Peter Faulding says the case is left him 'truly baffled' and that he doesn't believe the mother-of-two fell into the water, alleging that if she had drowned her body would have been found by now. He argued that police police have 'nothing to go on' and suggested that a third-party, who may have left her phone behind as a decoy, is involved. Mr Faulding, founder of Specialist Group International, joined the search for the missing woman yesterday. He and team of expert divers will be back on site from 8am today after scouring 'three or four miles' of river until darkness fell last night.

Ms Bulley, 45, disappeared while walking her dog Willow along the River Wyre near the village of St Michael's, Lancashire, at around 9.20am on January 27. Lancashire Police and private diving company Specialist Group International (SGI) have both conducted extensive searches along the river, but have so far found no trace of the mortgage adviser. Police continue to work under the hypothesis that Ms Bulley slipped into the water, possibly while trying to help her dog, and drowned. But Willow was completely dry when her phone was found laid on a bench next to her roaming dog, close to the water's edge. A picture has now been revealed showing Willow happily swimming in the same river - implying she would not have been concerned if he had entered the water.

I sense the gutter media & conspiracy theorists are turning this into the new "Maddy" (Madeline McCann). Nothing better than a missing person story to stimulate wild speculation from them.

The police discussed with the family prior to releasing the statement about her vulnerabilities.
People are perfectly entitled to say that the police should not be releasing this sort of information. As long as they accept that that will inevitably mean that there is a reduced chance of actually finding this woman. Which, surely, is the main priority.
The main purpose seemed to be to cover their own ar5es, and bit ch about social media coverage.
How do you eliminate speculation on social media?
Isnt it best to ignore it, rather than allow it to interfere with the investigation, which was one of their claims?
They put forward 3 options of what may have occurred, more than 3 weeks ago, and dont appear to have eliminated any of them.
Going back to the press conference.
The sole purpose of the investigation is to find a missing person.
Something they have failed to do, in more than 3 weeks.
They listed the number of experts that they have involved, and the fields that they are expert in.
The number of people that have been involved in the search, drones, divers, boats, helicopters, etc.
They seem convinced that she went into the river, as they were from the very beginning.
This is disputed by a number of experts.
They have faced flak for not cordoning off the bench where her phone was found.
Also for snapping at the press that they couldnt question the dog.
I am not sure that they have come across as being competent.
It will be interesting to review their actions, when we find out what actually happened.
While Lancashire Police has been plunged into crisis over its handling of the Nicola Bulley inquiry, its elected commissioner has been busy in the kitchen - and on social media.
