Started watching Jack Irish. 2 episodes in, good so far.
Unforgotten. As good as ever Virdee. Good. But not great.
Tonight's must see? Modern Life is Goodish on Dave.
Been a fan of Dave Gorman since the start, when he was providing the gags for Mrs Merton. (Believe he wrote the line to Debbie McGee-"what first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels"). Seen everything he has ever done
First new series for about 7 years. Totally original comedian
PS. Saw him live last year. Extremely funny set of gags about Gregg Wallace-sadly, that routine has had to be axed for the new series
I enjoyed Unforgotten. I am surprised you are still keen on it, because I thought you had a bit of a crush on Nicola Walker. I read the first couple of Virdee books, but didnt like the series. I am too grumpy to be watching comedies. If you venture onto Acorn, dont miss 19-2. Its worth a trial for that and the three Jack Irish films.

This is on PBS today at 4 o'clock, a very good documentary and is well worth watching. What happens to Gareth Jones at the end proves nothing has changed in nearly 100 years.
Gareth Jones, a young Welsh journalist, smuggled into Ukraine in March 1933. The region then experienced a completely unprecedented famine, both in terms of its scale and its causes. This famine, kept secret and decided by Stalin, is political. On his return, the journalist alerts the world but lies and Soviet manipulation triumph. This is the story of the power of inquiry and speech against the state apparatus. This is the story of a mass lie and crime.
Between 1931 and 1933, 4 million Ukrainians were to die of hunger. This famine was not preceded by any cataclysmic weather event, nor by a war. This was an ideological crime: decided by Stalin and approved by the Politburo, with the aim of punishing Ukrainian peasants who refused the collectivization of the countryside, cultivated a strong form of nationalism and showed resistance to communist ideology.
The purpose of this famine, unprecedented in Soviet history, was to break all forms of opposition. How was it implemented? What was known at the time? What was said? What was seen?
The most important event in pre-war Soviet history is taboo: all traces of it were immediately erased, and the evidence drowned in a flood of lies. And yet, within just two years, this famine killed twice as many Ukrainians as the gulag did Soviets in half a century. This state secret was particularly well-kept for more than fifty years and only revealed in its full magnitude after the disintegration of the USSR, when the archives were revealed. Drawing on previously unpublished material, on many Soviet films and on a number of particular points of view, including that of Welsh journalist and whistleblower Gareth Jones, this film retraces the story of that famine.

I saw that trailer for Mr Jones earlier when I was searching for the documentary, although I've never heard of the film.
I prefer documentaries which mostly tell the truth as opposed to film versions of events that use 'artistic licence' to enhance the actual story. Although I will watch Mr Jones if it gets shown on T.V.
The documentary I posted is worth a watch it's on PBS today and gets repeated multiple times.
