The shocking figure comes from an exclusive poll of UK charities, which found that 80 per cent had seen an astonishing increase in thefts of items that had been kindly donated by the public. More than half of those polled said they had witnessed an increase in abuse of staff and volunteers in the past 12 months. Last night, charity shop workers and volunteers said they no longer 'bother to call the police' when thieves strike, because officers will not come out to investigate. The vast majority of charities - 85 per cent - said they do not report the thefts, which happen daily. Those that do report crimes said police officers only turned up to investigate one in five cases.
Residents of shoplifting capital of Britain say it's completely LAWLESS and they've given up on the police while gangland bosses rule the streets and thieves openly sell their stolen goods
EXCLUSIVE: Store owners in Britain's shoplifting capital are living in a 'lawless' town where gangland bosses rule the streets and thieves openly sell their stolen goods. Last week, MailOnline revealed the areas worst afflicted by shoplifting. Cleveland topped the rankings as the place with the most number of shoplifting crimes in the past five years per 1,000 people. During the period 2018-2023, there were 32,378 reports of shoplifting in the region. With a population of 570,000 according to the most recent census data, that works out at 56.80 crimes per 1,000 in population. Shop owners and locals in Hartlepool, which falls under the protection of Cleveland Police, told MailOnline criminal gang bosses had taken charge and shoplifting was rife.
Shocking moment Halfords manager is kicked in the head by two shoplifters he tried to stop in horrifying attack which left him unable to work - and claims that the store is now blaming HIM for his injuries
Marty Scott, 57, was kicked in the head by two shoplifters and suffered a stroke shortly afterwards. The company he works for initially offered him just £16,000 in compensation, and went as far as to blame him for suffering the injury at the store in Stockton, County Durham.
blaming the police for not helping or expecting them to solve the problem is pointless, it is the same as tackling the drug problem by targeting users instead of the manufacture operations........
i bet a good thief could get the steak outa the package before making their get away haha
yep seen it, this very package broken and discarded down a road near me. I only found the remains so would not know if they broke in store or outside but whilst gps tracking can work it likely wont be followed immiedately once reported and thus the theif could break this outside the shop can break this and just take the meat leaving the discarded plastic.
I mean unless they put the gps tracking in the meat but I would not buy meat with chips in it, hey I guess thats how vegans win in the end.
