    Wanting another Pay Rise. Labour MPs

    We all agree and feel sorry for them........ don't we. cough!

    'MPs are massively underpaid and should get £250,000 a year' tax free each year.!

    Not easy thinking up new ways to tax pensioners and avoid being taxed themselves.
    With a proper wage they won't need to take brib#s/ handouts from rich people that need political favours they will afford to pay their own airfare to visit New York instead of declaring it as expenses to attend some conference at UN headquarters.

    He's got a Point.

    Mr Musk said: “I don’t think anyone should go to the UK when they’re releasing convicted paedophiles in order to imprison people for social media posts.”

    @goldon

    TBH, I don't think he does "have a point".

    It would be wonderful if you & I could discuss this sensibly, & as an optimist, I live in hope.

    I will say this though - Mr Musk has, I suggest, twisted the facts there & it's gravely disappointing to me that so many have taken the bait.

    Here's a factual view as per the HM Gov website;

    "Eligible prisoners are being automatically released after serving only 40% of their fixed term sentence, rather than the usual 50%.

    Sex offenders and those serving sentences of four years or longer for serious violent offences are not included."

    And whatever they are in prison for, assuming they are eligible for the 40% scheme, they would have been released after serving 50% of their sentence anyway. That's the Law.

    And as to "imprisoning people for social media posts" well yes, that sounds somewhat draconian - until one looks a little closer. Do you really think it's OK to make social media posts suggesting rioters set fire to hotels housing men, women & children, which would result in dozens of them them being burnt alive? And they DID try to do exactly that. Do you think that was acceptable?

    And would it be OK to suggest we burn them alive if those trapped were British?

    Bench commemorating Indigenous reconciliation divides community
    A park bench designed to celebrate Indigenous reconciliation has divided a sleepy Canadian community.

    The controversial bench was installed in Kinsmen Park in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, to commemorate Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - an annual holiday on September 30 to recognize the atrocities and multi-generational effects of the Canadian Indian residential school system.

    But two women are speaking out against the new seating arrangement after the town council removed benches from public places last year.

    One of the women, Jade Rachwal, has even gone as far as to call it a textbook example of hostile architecture - due to the placement of an armrest near the middle.
