Not much progress today. Didn’t run too well in some key spots and made a couple of bad calls. Knew it wouldn't be my day when I lost the first HU match after getting it in as 80/20 favourite and losing both times in consecutive hands. Was pleasantly surprised to see it hadn't been a losing day when I logged off. My bankroll roll has grown by 39% in the first 10 days, I can only be happy with that. If I could do the same every 10 days (very unlikely!) this challenge would take about 90 days to complete.

GREAT read Gary! At least you're heading in the right direction!  I'm guessing the start & getting over the finish line will be the hardest parts. Good Luck!
The £2:30 BH's are my favourite tourneys! I've managed to cash 2/2 this week! Small profits but they all count! Hope to meet you at the BH tables soon.

More time spent in the micro STTs (and a 45p freeroll bink lol) resulted in a very small win and my 9th consecutive profitable day. It could have been much better but several times my dominating cards couldn’t hold when all-in for a tournament deciding stack. The best news of the day is that the 24 poker points earned took me past the 500 point threshold to 521 points. That means I already have an end of month bonus of £4.16 locked up, which should grow to well over a fiver by the month end.

Didn’t have time to play much today, but managed good results in the few games I did enter to move my balance on. Hopefully within a few days I’ll be rolled to play £2 games without breaking my 40 buy-ins rule.

    Day 13 – January 21st 2012

    Closing balance £82.61

It was a funny day today. I ran terribly all afternoon in STTs. I feel I played well, but took harsh beats to sna_tch defeat from the jaws of victory several times. I didn’t really mind too much, I know a downswing is inevitable sooner or later.

Resigned to making a loss for the day I registered for a £1.10 deepie to finish my session, this being my first proper MTT since this challenge started. While I waited for the deepie to begin I sat at a hyper HU table and a scary STT. In the scary I got 2nd after being 2-outered on the river to deny me the win. In HU match I accidentally 3-bet jammed my 66 into 99 pre-flop for all the chips. It was OK though; I made a straight on the river to suck-out and win. Then the deepie started and I went on a fairly deep run. On the bubble I ran into a spot of bother, I 5-bet jammed my AcKc from the SB into an aggro player on the button. Unfortunately he really did have it this time and flipped over his KK. But all’s well that ends well. I binked my ace on the river and doubled-up. From there I went on the get 7th/117 and unexpectedly record another profitable day.

Thank-you very much to those of you posting supportive comments, they’re very much appreciated.

Didn’t play much but managed to record my 12th consecutive winning day. A min-cash in the Fantasy Football Freeroll was a fun way to end to my session. I’m almost rolled for £2.30 Bounty Hunters now, can’t wait to get stuck in. My balance has grown by 67.5% in the first 2 weeks, well chuffed.

Hi Glenelg, thanks for your support.

No, I think the way I play is unaffected. I'm taking a 'play to win win' mentality in everything I enter, no going nitty to scrape min cashes or anything like that. If anything this challenge is making me focus much more and having a positive effect on my results. I care about every single result at the moment. If I play a £1 HU match tomorrow I'm going to play to the very best of my ability. A couple of weeks ago I wouldn't really care about the pound and would chuck my chips in without giving it too much thought.

I tried micro DYMs at the start of this challenge but I've more or less abandoned them now. When I first joined Sky I had a tight style of play that let me do quite well in DYMs, but they just don't suit my game anymore. I think the standard is much better these days, you can't double most times by folding every hand while the other knock each other out like you could a couple of years ago, beating the high rake seems almost impossible.

    Day 15 – January 23rd 2012

    Closing balance £98.05

After a few lunchtime STTs I was pleased to see my balance pass the £86.00 threshold which allows me to enter a £2.30 Bounty Hunter tournament without breaking my 40 buy-in rule. I excitedly registered in the 3-05pm tourney. There was only a small field; 33 runners with top 5 to be paid. I ended up taking second place for a nice profit despite running terribly at the final table. Three-handed my QJ couldn’t hold against QT aipf to take a bounty and get heads-up with a big lead. Then my bust out hand was AK<AJ aipf for 70% of the chips in play, I flopped the nut-flush draw but the villain hit one of the two off-suit jacks on the turn to win the tournament. Despite my brief frustration at the run-bad I was thrilled to record a nice profit on the day and move close to a 3-figure balance.

    Day 16 – January 24th 2012

    Closing balance £111.81

It started badly today; no joy in my first 2 Bounty Hunters and I squandered £2.25 when I bubbled a DYM. I must restrain myself from playing DYMs, these days my natural game has a ‘killer instinct’ element which I seem unable to supress at times where nittyness is required. The day was saved in the last of my three Bounty Hunters, which I was delighted to win.

I was very pleased how I played throughout the tournament, though it nearly went pear-shaped after the second hand of heads up-play. The villain only had 8BB on the button, I min-raised from the SB with 9h7h and would have happily called a jam with 53BB behind. He surprisingly flatted, but I absolutely loved the 9s6d7c flop, I c-bet ½ pot and he shoved in his last 6BB. The villain flipped over 3d4c for a gutshot. A miracle 5c hit on the river and he doubled. From there my opponent picked up all the cards and managed to take a 3 to 1 chip lead. I was resigned to another unlucky second place place finish until my A2 collided with KT on a T22 flop and held. From there I fought back for the win after no less than 45 minutes of heads up play.

I’m delighted to record another profit and reach the stage where my starting balance £51 has more than doubled. Now that I’m transitioning from STTs to MTTs I’m fully aware that regular losing days become a certainty and a downswing could occur at any time, but I have to say I’m very pleased with progress to so far.

well done mate, keep it going
is it worth staying on those levels/STT's that you are cashing in at the moment to (hopefully) keep the br moving up?
Or are you going to mix them up?

    good luck

Thank-you! I'm working to a strict 40 buy-in rule. Sensible BRM is crucial to ensure success. For example I won't enter £5.50 games until my balance is 40x £5.50, ie £220. I'm close to being rolled for £3.30 games already, but not many MTTs run at that level. £2.30 Bounty Hunters are quite soft and will be a great place to build my bankroll until I'm ready for the £5.75 tournaments.

My long overdue losing session finally arrived today. Couldn’t get much going in my 4 Bounty Hunter tournaments, made an awful call with straight<flush to ruin the first, ran badly in a few key spots, the best I could manage was a min-cash in the last. Flipped badly in my HU games and bubbled an STT. No worries, it’s a standard case of ‘two steps forwards, one step back’,  there will be many more losing days on my path to £1,051. I’ll be back in the same games trying to do better tomorrow afternoon.

I’m running badly in HU matches at the moment, my 60/40s just don’t want to hold, I lost 3 of my 4 HU matches today after a bad day in those yesterday. Fortunately the bounty hunters went a bit better. I satellited into the 4-00pm £1,000 guaranteed for £2.40 and ran fairly deep. Unfortunately I busted in 13th place from 93 entrants with 10 to be paid. However my 2 head prizes were worth £7.50 to make a fiver profit on the satellite seat. Simultaneously I went deep in a £2.30 tournament. Annoyingly it was another runner-up finish, getting 2nd/ 58 runners. It was a case of what ‘might have been’, had I won the £2.30 and won a couple of the flips that didn’t go my way in the £1,000 gtd it could have been my best day so far. But I have to look on the bright side; I won back yesterday’s losses and moved on to my highest balance yet. I’ve earned 631 Poker Points so far in January, so I can look forward to a C4P bonus of over a fiver in a week or so.
