I have just spent about an hour reading previous pages of your diary. Its a great read and very informative. This 70K points thing is mental. I struggle to get 2,000 lately but I did get 3,000 my first month.lol. I shall be looking forward to your posts now and am glad I've found a regular diary on the internet that peaks my interest immediately. You have a great writing style and I really enjoy the life story parts which make it all the more palatable. Great work so keep it up. Best wishes. Shaun the Villa fan in Bham

mmmm soldiers with egg :) Don't you fancy the Turbo hu sngs then, they fill up fairly quickly and saves you waiting for the dyms to fill up?  I will deffo be at Cardiff on Saturday and hoping to be there for friday evening as well.  When will you be there? Where are you staying mate?

Not a major fan of Turbo HU STT, might switch to them at some point though, we'll see.

Not sure when I'll be there yet or where I'm staying, my father who I've finally got to sign up to Sky Poker should be joining me but refuses to play the satellites to qualify.  So I'm basically waiting to see if any go on general sale and then try to nab one for him.

So far he's only rung me three times for tech support with SkyPoker, very much below the line in my mind.  The latest was more worrying as he was having trouble logging in.  Looks like I'll be on an out call tomorrow.

Not revealing his username yet though.  Firstly because it'll be unfair to him.  Secondly because I'll be giving him plenty of light hearted abuse in the chatbox and I like the idea of other railers thinking I've gone mental.

Sigh, you know I said I think I could get out of my DYM hole sometime this weekend?  Well it's no longer a hole, it's now a crater to the tune of 1k.  Luckily cash is going well and I managed to bink the Survivor tonight receiving a very helpful monkey.

    Points - 11614
    Profit/loss - +£1078.98

Just don't have the time to go through my DYM game in detail, my volume has already suffered from doing brief reviews.  I am running bad, people are taking flips v my shoves more than normal and I'm losing much more than expectation.  Frankly I'd much rather they fold anyway.  Also I don't think I'm playing without mistakes.

Going to try to plough through it.  If it continues I'm going to just have to drop DYMs this month.

no idea about your dym game.

i'ma guess you play too loose in a multitude of spots.

considering you like to see flops in cash and play poker I cant see why you'd ever want to play a dym unless it was a personal punishment.

    they are horrible.

I think Beaneh saying I like to play poker is one of the biggest compliments I've had on here.

The problem appears to be purely on shove/fold ranges.  The vast majority of my exit/crippled spots are on the bubble when the blinds are huge.  I think my loose reputation might be hurting me, people appear to have a much bigger calling range to my shoves than most other people.  Sadly they are pretty on the money that I may be shoving because of stack sizes, wouldn't matter so much if they had the same ranges for the field.

My major headache is I can't tighten my shove range too much because you just don't get enough hands to survive at those blinds.  It's soul destroying when you enter the bubble stage with a healthy stack just to see everyone pass chips around waiting for me to shove and have KTs or A2o to call.  I probably need to really work on stack maintenance in these spots, that's on the self improvement list.

Also can people please stop killing the clock with their 'muck cards' timer please, it's very annoying.

dyms aren't poker. it's just a maths game of flips.

if the players are competent it's just a game of maths. if there were no rake you'd probably find that the edges are beyond farcically small. as is im sure there is a very 'varied' standard.... (is that on message enough?!) so you should be able to win at them pretty easily. however if at any point you've thought about poker, what your hand is, what their hand is, what the blinds are what peoples stacks are etc then you are overplaying it because everyone is a goon and you just are meant to fold, jam sometimes with the nuts and never call without top set preflop.

it's soul destroying. I really would suggest just never ever playing dyms again.

It's not the worst idea in the world to give them up.  The edges in them, especially the £55 level, are miniscule.  When you get a few new or occasional players in the one hundred game the edge gets better, the standard at that level is generally worse than £55 as there are more rec players who fancy a spin with a oner.

I'm really grinding them this month for the rake race, will do the math after the weekend to see if they are better or worse than nl100.  If they are worse pretty sure I'm deep sixing them.

In other news my lappy has just started to cry.  All day multi tabling has over heated the blooming thing so now it's shut down for half an hour i think.  I do have a cooling tray but as I'm moving soon it has been packed.  I made a motion towards the twenty boxes currently forming a false wall in my lounge and the GF actually growled at me.  Think I'll just play near an open window/

+1 to Shaun and Shuv's sentiments. I'm one of the (almost) silent majority who enjoy your diary, hope you find the time to keep it going.

I would suggest you look at John Conners DYM strategy document. I am sure it is available to non Team51 members but was written by the best DYM player on the Team to help everyone. I know you are a sensational player with a massive skill base and a great depth of knowledge of the game but everyone can learn from John Conners as he is a specialist in this area. Hope you don't think I'm being rude in suggesting you look it up but I hoped it may help you get out of the DYM crater. Best of luck and I'm confident you will breeze past 50,000.

    Cheers Simon

If you can guess the GF's Christmas 2012 present then you can have a prize.  The prize is that present, you obviously want it more than her ;)

Cheers Shaun, I read a ton of JohnConners stuff, I read that guide ages ago I think.  He's a great writer and I immensely enjoy his stuff.  DYMs may have turned a corner, we'll see in the next update....

It's the end of Day nine and the novelty has definitely worn off the race.  The middle stretch is always the most tricky, just look back to the Jan rake race thread Scotty77 started.  I'm still determined but I can feel my general ability and quite frankly enjoyment waning.  I really just want to waste an evening shooting bad guys in the world of Call of Duty or jump around pretending to be Batman (in the game, not in real life.  Although I think I have the costume somewhere..).  But I can't, my level of multi tabling is low, I need to keep plugging away.

My DYM crater had expanded to £1.1k when I checked my records this morning.  Luckily for me i've been able to claw much of this back now, the hole is currently £600.  Cash continues to work well, despite me playing suicide poker in one pot with lol_Raise a few minutes ago by slow playing a flush just enough for the river to fill him up and then decide to value shove.  All in all, stupid chump-likepoker by me that hand.  However I'll blame the RNG and PM support.

MTTs?  Well I'm up by a pint and a burger right now.  All this is normal, MTTs can have loooong gaps between binks.

    Points so far - 15.1k
    Profit/loss  +£1.4k

Blooming love you Beano, no idea if you're an evil genius or just a genius.

Will tail off the DYMs through the month.  I want to get unstuck for the month in those, personal pride coming before the fall and all that.  Either way I will be concentrating on cash for the second half of the month.  Despite the various grumbles on the Twitterverse there are some good games out there and I seem to have fixed up my cash game for now.  Cue downswong.

I think the pressure of the move and a rather trying couple of months have gotten to the GF.  She is now convinced our flat is haunted.

It started so simply.  A cardboard perfume box fell off of a shelf in the bathroom.  As all of the windows were closed preventing any wind and the fact there was no one in that room the GF declared poltergeist.  Since then we've had a couple of empty boxes fall over in the spare room and the odd creak in the loft when we were both sat in the lounge.  It's an old building full of noises and groans so I'm not automatically ruling the supernatural.  It has put the wind up me a little though.  I may instantly lose any respect for my intelligence from some of you but I am very open minded when it comes to ghosts.  I believe there is plenty we don't understand, no idea if it's ghosts or things we can't see in our spectrum etc but there is much out there beyond the knowledge of mankind.

What's really freaking with me is I keep catching sight of something out of the corner of my eye.  Now as we're moving there are a ton of packed boxes in the lounge so it's pretty much unfamiliar by sight to me right now.  The boxes are probably what I see and i'm not used to them yet.  Or it's the supernatural.
