Doesn't really matter, if people want to read them they will find them.

Voted for a section of their own, it's not a big effort is it to click a sub heading.

There are at least 4 forum sections that can be done away with to make way.

But if you follow that logic, why do we have a Poker Clinic section ? Surely the answer is that so people who are interested in it can go straight to it ?

The same applies to diaries. If they are good to read, which many of them are, we will make that extra click and be able to go straight to the ones we want to view.

I think splitting them will actually encourage more of us to start them, while making GPC easier to follow too.

Disagree JJ, it does matter.  The diary fad is not only creating new contributors to the forum but getting old ones re-engaged as well.  This is only good for GPC.  Also the reason that those sections could be done away with is because people don't go in them because they are not GPC.

I reiterate, at least 50% of recent non-diary threads in GPC have been 'Where's my C4P?' 'Sort it out Sky' 'I'm Leaving' 'Fixed Site' 'Bad Beat Yawn.'  GPC needs fixing, the diaries might do that.

I actually agree with JJ on this one!

One click to the 'diary section' should not be that much of an effort for anyone surely?

The 'team' stuff clogging up GPC rattled some peoples cages but a new section alleviated that, did it not?

I also agree that more people will start Diaries if they are in their own section. Mine will be titled Diary of a stresshead!

    It is horses for courses.

Or change the forum software to display 30 threads per page? Would allow more on page 1..

At present - this may change - there are techie reasons why that would currently be inadvisable.

In short, the loading time would become unacceptably slow. er.

Like many, I have invested a lot of time & energy into this Forum, but it's now entered a sort of stupor, for the reasons Tommy explained.

I would bet my mortgage on being able to increase the Post Count by 50% within a month by some subtle changes, encouraging better quality Threads, & diaries fill that bill. That would result in more active Members, more content, & more more. It's simple.

PS - I don't have a mortgage. ALL   BETS  ARE OFF.

I enjoy reading a well thought out diary and take a great deal from the thoughts and comments posted!
But to be honest some players seem to post them just to appear on the forum.
In my opinion I would like to see a diary template.
Threads would be consistant and results could be compared easier to pick up best practices.

The current Vote is very much against my line of thinking, & I'll accept & respect whatever decision is made. Currently, I read every Diary, every day, but I doubt I'd do that if I had to change Boards, personally I just don't have time to peruse the other Boards.

Come on Tikay, is this fair debating tactics ? We all appreciate just how busy you are, but threatening not to read diaries if they are put in their own section is going a bit far as a means of swaying opinion to meet yours.

You know that your contributions to any thread are welcomed and sought after by forum members. And if you are really saying that you would not make an extra click to read something as interesting as TommyDs diary, I have to say I do not believe you.

There are around a dozen active diary threads at the moment and I will continue to follow them wherever they are. As Tommy rightly says we do get too many pointless threads started on GPC, but filling the front page with diaries is not going to make them disappear. And there are still many worthwhile non diary threads on GPC.

Not an issue to fall out over though. I just wish my poker (and my life in general) at the moment was a little more interesting, so I could start my own diary thread !

Disagree with this one, Dun. Diaries are all about personal style and the writer's choice of subject. Templating them would take all of the fun and variation out of them in my opinion.

Ok maybe we should leave them in GPC. I mainly read the diarys over anything in GPC as I find them interesting but they are not always very easy to spot within the list of threads. Perhaps a good solution for this would be if they could get flagged and have a different icon the same way the stickies and polls do?

That is completely wrong, & unfair, Tony, & as you know me quite well - or I thought you did - I'm greatly surpriseed by such comments.

We are debating where best to put Diaries, & by extension, how to improve the Forum activity, quality, & fun.

It is a simple fact of life, that if they were moved, I, AND OTHERS, are less likely to read them, in my personal opinion. I would have assumed that the "and others" did not need adding.

Quite how that got twisted into "threatening not to read Diaries" I'm not entirely sure. In fact, I'd go so far as to say my plussed is nonned.

The Diaries will go wherever Blandy decides, I'm cool with any decision. For the betterment of this Forum, I think they would be better in GPC. I don't need, ever, to indulge in "unfair debating tactics" thank you.

I engaged the fingers before the brain Dave!
I meant a template for reporting results not comments.
So ROI etc can be easily identified

Simple answer here, is to trial it for one month(give diaries a new section), then ask the question again . . .

EDIT: im sure you can inter-twine a few topics within GPC, imo there are 1-2 too many.

As to whether Diaries stay on GPC, or have their own board, that's Blandy's shout, & I won't argue, but there's no chance I'll be navigating inter-board any time soon, I just don't have the time. I'm quite sure the Diaries will manage vey nicely without my input!

Apologies if I have offended you, but that was the impression I gathered from this post and the other one. And your input is vital in ensuring the diaries manage very nicely.

I think it would be a horrendous decision to move the Diaries to a seperate board. GPC needs pepping up - badly, VERY badly - & the Diaries COULD do that. They could, if managed well, completely freshen up & rejuvenate GPC. The current Vote is very much against my line of thinking, & I'll accept & respect whatever decision is made. Currently, I read every Diary, every day, but I doubt I'd do that if I had to change Boards, personally I just don't have time to peruse the other Boards.

I'm tending to lean towards the stay option too. Some pretty solid reasons on both sides of the argument and I don't think it's as clear-cut as some suggest. Let's stay with it as is for now and if a whole drove of quality diaries spring forth we'll look at a new section for them.

Thanks a lot for the input all of you!
