It was a request for people to express an opinion, Alan, not a referendum. As I clearly said, I wanted to see what the views on both sides were before making a decision on what I genuinely think is a close-called thing. It's also something we'll keep an eye on. Seems pretty simple to me.
As a wise man once said, you can't please everyone. You definitely can't please Maxally.
Diaries will come and go as will many other poker related topics in GPC. If you move them, I suspect that a lot of peeps who voted "Give Them a New Section" will soon start to complaining because no one is reading them anymore.
General Poker Chat, is after all General Poker Chat. If we keep making new sections, then eventually there will be no topics to put in "General Poker Chat".
At the end of the day, if people don't want to read these diaries in GPC because they have no substance or are of very little interest, then they will just drop off the front page. As is they are very popular so why kill them all together by moving them to another section.
We could argue that there are many other threads in GPC that should'nt be there too, such as the "Thursday Night Show Threads" amongst many others, which already have their own section, but the reason they are left here in GPC is so they get noticed instead of disappearing into obscurity.
Anyway thats my view and I also agree with Tikay (Hows that happen? He must be having a caffeine overdose or something lol) but he's never usually far wrong imo.

Oh, and a rough count of the opinions of those who took the time to comment....
Keep it here: 8
New section: 8
Other/Alternative solution: 4
Rather less definitive and more indicative of a good democracy.
In Response to Re: Diaries - where do you want them? : lol yea. Might as well have just posted the question on the Ask Tikay thread. Not a big deal either way like, but it's funny the way the thread has developed. Posted by DOHHHHHHH

Fair comment Dave. No point in attempting to discuss it with you.

If it helps i started a thread on the community suggestions section - 3 votes so far - 1 for seperate section and 2 for don,t mind and 1 of those was mine but i,m swaying towards leaving them in GPC now after reading this thread.
As PokerTrev i think it was who said if you keep moving things to seperate sections whats GPC going to be left for and theres more sub sections than ever before at the minute.
Personally i find these threads much more intersting than a lot of the general stuff in GPC and if they are left there I think more ppl will do them and keep them updated. They are all quite clearly labelled by there thread names so if your not interested in them you can easily avoid them and would probably spend more time on page 2 and beyond which has to be a good thing .
Ps -Most of these threads are from low stakes players and new players and as Sky is always trying to attract new players I will now be voting to keep them on GPC
Also just because they are mainly low stakes diarys they are all different in their own ways and shouldn,t be shunned or slated by the high stakes players who feel they have nothing to gain by reading them

EDIT : Theres currently 7 diaries on the front page which does seem a lot but after browsing the first 3 pages there is a case for over half the posts to be in other sub categories that already exist such as football corner, Sky Poker tour , Sky Poker TV channel, Brags and beats , The clinic , Community suggestions and Community help and advice of which most seem to end up in GPC anyway so if they were all put in there propper places (the correct sub categorys) there would hardly be anything to read .( I,ve noticed the threads which belong in area 51 seem to get moved pretty quickly)
As its a reltiavely new thing on here i,d let it run for a while and see what the interest in them is like.
7 diaries on pge 1 indicates to me they,re a popula topic at the moment and have revived the GPC.You only have to look at this thread to see everyone has an opinion on it
Also as has been mentioned in a previous post can we get rid off the live show threads once they have finsihed or move them to the " Sky Poker TV Channel" after they have aired?
give them a new section, as i personally dont read them and dont like them clogging up my page, if people want to read them then theres nothing stopping them going to a different section.

Poor Blandy, there's no way I'd want to wear his shoes!
I thought I'd just explain a few things, which I hope make a little sense to everyone, or at least, some.
I am pretty familiar with this situation in Forums, from many years of grappling with it elsewhere, on far busier Forums, & where the Members can be a bit, err, opinionated......It is never easy to strike the right balance.
Think we need to remember a few things.
1) Good Members tend to feel they actually OWN a Forum, they become very protective of it, & territorial towards it. This, of course, is a wonderful thing.
2) Its quite hard to comprehend how anyone could ever get uppity & mardy about any two-bit Poker Forum (this is a 10 bit one, of course....), but they do, very much so, & all sorts of curly-lipped comments appear. Some things I can easily grasp, as I have a decent understanding of human psychology, but this, I'll never fathom. It's a Forum - just a forum. It's also a possession to all of us. And so very important.
3) Many views are strictly "me", whereas the Forum Managers have to decide what works best for everyone. The old "try to please everyone" we know so well from 865, where we ALWAYS upset some, whatever we do. The most valid opinions are those which reflect & understand that the decisions have to be made for the betterment of the Community, rather than its constituents in isolation. In every case, "knee-jerk" is best ignored, things always look different after a preriod of adjustment. Not always better, not always worse - different.
4) A Forum MUST have rules, but they must also be enforced with a degree of touch & feel. Exceptions prove the rule & all that.
I have always viewed Forums in a very particular light, I visualise them, in a weird way, as plants in a garden, which need tending, weeding, watering, a little tlc now & then, some pruning, too. Or as any living thing, a human being if you like, a man, or a woman, needing care & love, & some attention, but they have moods, & those moods ebb & flow, & they need acommodating, & adjusting to compensate.
The mood on a forum ebbs & flows all the time, sometimes it gets angry & snarly, the moaners, the ill-mannered (that NEVER helps anything, & never did), & glass half-full merchants dominate the mood, other times the more balanced, optimistic peeps, the smilers, have the upper hand.
Trying to keep everything just so, in a nice mood, is something that Blandy & Co have to manage, & they do so all the time, in ways you would never guess. It is even discussed in every Management Meeting, each Tuesday morning, "how is the Forum at the moment, do we need to make any adjustments?"
Not sure if that makes any sense to anyone, but I hope it helps everyone understand that the Community matters very much to Sky Poker, (most Online Sites do not even have one, because they are so difficult to manage, & Members always seem to think it is a replacement for Customer Care, which it is not), & they work very hard to make it a fun place to visit, & get involved.
Enjoy our Forum, it's ours, we will get out of it what we put into it, & it reflects upon us all.
So, back to where I began rambling, who'd wanna wear Blandy's shoes?!
More seriously though, as I said in the initial post on the thread, this is one of those issues that I felt genuinely 50/50 on. While more people might have polled one preference, the views explained by the other side were fuller, better argued and, on balance, seemed the correct play to me. I might have got it wrong, and time will tell. I do think involving you guys and asking for your views was the right thing to do and I have no issue with doing it again in the future.
I enjoy Sky Poker because of two things - the TV channel and the Community. Both are utterly unique here at Sky. There are many forums out there, we all know and some of them are vastly bigger in numbers. I do think this one has the best sense of commaraderie out there, though. Again, every forum has its detractors and moaners. They are more than entitled to their views and to air them too, provided it's done the right way.
The key thing for me is that the niggles, complaints and suggestions are put across in a way that is constructive and actionable. What's the point in just saying "That sucks?" None, obviously. If you tell us what you feel can be tweaked, we have something to discuss. The more debate, the better the chances of good points being made.
At the end of the day Sky Poker as a business has to look after as many of you as possible, and that's what I personally try to do each and every time I come on here. I can't please you all, as much as I would love to - that's life though and I hope the majority of you understand that every single member of the Sky Poker team - on the forum, channel, marketing, wherever - do care about what we do on the Community.
Interesting thread Personally I'd leave them where they are. I enjoy reading them and GPC is the first bit of the forum I go to, as possibly, so will alot of other people (especially new ones?). They are a good advert for teh site/forum in my opinion and foster the sense of community here. It wouldn't take much to click to a sub section I know, but still i'd prefer them in GPC. Whatever is decided it won't please everyone (but nothing ever does).

In Response to Re: Diaries - where do you want them? : So u got... GPC Strategy Poker diaries BBV The shed Team Talk Area51 How frustrating is it posting a tech queary or a suggestion for a new tourny n having it moved within seconds without ppl being able to read it? Wudn't happen under this new layout. Too many pointless sections. Posted by DOHHHHHHH
+1
Agree, maybe keep "community help and advice" for tech-y stuff (as you might not get a reply straight away in GPC) also adding to that list "PLO/PLO8 Strategy" as any of these threads in "P-Clinic" disappear in no time, agree with everything else m8.

Too many sub sections in forums kills them off.
If people feel the need to read other peoples ' diaries ', then lump them all altogether in a diaries thread, and that need will be fulfilled.
