In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Amazingly. Mr Red, yes, I have, & not only that, I was involved in a squeeze play in Luton last week with those TWO exact holdings. I squeezed with 3-7, & got looked up by 9-10. That was in Level 4 of a ONE HUNDRED POUND Tourney. The next night, again at Luton, in a £50 Freezeout, the calling stations were out in force again, (I feel so sorry for them in some ways - how many times do they need telling that serial limping is the road to busto-ville?) the Blinds were 200-400, & on my button, there were SEVEN limpers. So I picked up a stack of chips - never counted them, just a big chunk - & pushed them across the line - RAISE. The SB, a most proficient player, older than me, who has appeared on Late Night Poker several times, & earns a living playing £50 & £100 Tourneys in Luton - re-shoved all-in. Whoops, I've been rumbled. "Count, please" I ask the Dealer. Dealer counts her all-in - it's 5,700. My Raise was 5,000. And there was about 3,300 in there already. So, I have to call 700 to win about 14,000. Sigh, I call. I turn over my J-6, & mutter something about wrong glasses. She turns over...... 5-2. There's a zillion ways to play poker, Mr Red, & "the kidz" think they know them all. They don't, though. Posted by Tikay10
Im relatively young in the poker world only been playing since last January and only played live 4 times. I dont and have never understood why players limp constantly hoping to hit a monster flop and get paid off. I guess Im naturally aggresive, anyway it surprises me that a player would call an all in early with 9 10 suited at a casino but not so much online as I guess at a casino once your out thats your night over but online you just enter another tournament Who knows what goes through the mind of us players I played in a 1/4 million dollar qualifier last week and decided to call a raise with K K as I was in 7th position and didnt want to risk going out on the bubble if an ace fell on the flop. The flop came with 2 aces I thought for a minute then pushed all in and got called with A 4 silly me.
Hi im kinda new to poker and was wondering why people will call 5x 6x the big blind pre flop and not even in position? with hands that are suited conectors or ace rag.. when i have hands like QQ KK, i do get paid off most of the time, but should i raise more pre flop and hope for the shove??
I know my hands arent monsters but i kinda get worried if the flop comes 9 9 10 with to off them suited.
In my opinion you aren't doing anything wrong, those are the kind of players that you want calling you, yes occasionally they are going to get lucky, but in the majority of cases you are going to win.
In the example you give I would tend to put in a 1/2 - 3/4 pot size bet (depending on my stack size) and then reassess depending on my opponents actions.

This is where the game becomes difficult, it isn't easy to win at poker, the players dont log on and aim to give their money away (although with some, it does look that way)
It's not simply a case of whoever has the best cards will win the hand, theres so many dynamics to the game, the guy could be sat there with 2-3 on a 9 9 10 flop, and he bets to convince you he has the 9. He could also be at with 99 in his hand, and check to convince you he has nothing.....
You have to figure it out! - Play the player, as well as your hand.
I like to play poker but not for big money , but I find the low value cash games so frustrating due to all the callers and poor play. Due to kids I don't have the time to play long tournaments , have played in a few and did well on other sites . What is the best tournaments to play that are quick ( less than two hours ) and have a better standard of players?

id say your looking at some 10 seat sit and goes for the best value you want
most tournys are over 3 to 4 hours
and the quicker you do get a lot off chancers in and some loose play as the blinds raise quickly
I have been offline for 24 hours, so have some catching up to do, & I have the Live Show with his Orfulness Orford tonight. Into each life, a little rain must fall, eh?

Thank you Mr Mallet for hammering that point home.
In fact, it is a very interesting question, which I'm interested to hear other's views on.
It is possible, yes. The WSOP has a Seniors Event, & several poker organisations have Female Only Events.
So it begs the question - are these sort of Events Ageist, & Sexist? Both would be entirely improper & inappropraite if they were, & Sky Poker do not allow sexism or ageism. (Jibes about my age, or Welsh people, don't count, obv).
Personally, I think it's wrong to allow "female only" Tourneys. Why? Because imagine the hoohah if there were "Men Only" Poker Tourneys, from which females were barred. There'd be an outcry, & quite right too. So it should cut both ways.
"Seniors" Tourneys? Again, the problem is that other age groups might feel disenfranchised.
All these things have to be taken into account, & the problem is, there is no "one size fits all" answer.
Good question, Mr Mallett, & I'd be interested in feedback from others.
Hi Poker league points are now more important due to TeamSky, it dose not seem to be a level playing field where MTT points are concerned,a £5 tournament with 50 runners gives 30 points for being 1st,tournaments with 500 to 700 players only 50 to 80 points.
