Can you be a little more precise as to what happened, please?
Tikay, If asked, most people would say that the fastest steam locomotive was "The Flying Scotsman". Is this, in fact, correct? Posted by JockBMW
A very confusing question - or answer.
Most sources state the garishly blue Mallard to hold that rather irrelevant distinction, & she is currently in the NRM @ York. Steam Locomotives should never be bright blue, it's just so wrong. Dark green, black, maybe maroon, but NEVER bright blue, it's so tacky.
Others state Flying Scotsman, even more confusingly, as that name is given both to a steam Locomotive, AND a train. Very different things, of course, though James Cardigan probably thinks they are the same thing. It's the sort of mistake many uneducated people make.
Oddly, both Mallard, & (locomotive) Flying Scotsman (which was green, though a shade too light a hue for my liking) were designed by the same gentleman, & he was a most impressive guy - Sir Herbert Nigel Gresley, though he dropperd "Herbert" in general use & was known as Nigel. He was the CME (Chief Mechanical Engineer) of the LNER, which may or may not be of interest to readers of this thread.
What will be of interest to them, however - hence I have taken some care with this reply - is a most remarkable fact.
It was none other than Sir Nigel Gresley who invented conjugated valve gear for steam locomotives.
You will all be familiar with Sir Nigel, & with conjugated valve gear, but I doubt many of you realise it was he that pioneered it. Who'd have thought?
Our day has not been wasted, then - we've learned something quite fascinating, which not many others know.
I was lucky enough to travel on a train hauled by locomotive 4472-Flying Scotsman in 1968.
Do I detect doubt about whether Mallard actually broke the record ? I read somewhere that a German loco held the record and Mallards attempt in 1938 was a little controversial.
There was some doubt as to the accuracy of the speed measuring equipment, and the run was on a downhill gradient as well. Before the end of the planned journey she suffered major mechanical breakdown.
But in those times it was important to score any propaganda victory against the ****, so the record was claimed anyway. It was intended that Mallard would have another attempt but it never happened due to the outbreak of WW2.

Not so much "doubt", Tony, as apathy, really, "how fast" does not do much for me. Anyway, I prefer GWR locomiotives, rolling stock, & history, all my forebears worked for the GWR, lived in GWR housing estates, & were GWR people from cradle to grave. It's what I wanted to do, too, but my Dad was very strict, wanted me to get a "proper job".
"What's a proper job, Dad?"
"One where you wear a tie", he'd say, the obvious inference being that train drivers never wore ties in those days. It was the most crushing day of my youth. And now, of course, train drivers wear ties......
Ah well, it all worked out OK in the end, but all I ever wanted to do was be a railwayman. Still do, too.
You at Luton tonight? I am 60/40, I need some sleepage first, been an immensely heavy week, but I hope to be there. It now starts at 8pm, & "early reg" (by, say, 7.45) gives a bonus 1,500 chips, so 11,500 chips in total. Blandy MAY be there, too.

So are you implying that Thomas the Tank Engine is tacky?
Hi all, I was recently knocked out of the premo tourney but feel I made the correct choice. Did I? Happy enough with my play today as I managed to win the bounty tourney earlier which funded my first attempt at the premo tourney. Will give it another try another day but hopefully won't be as nervous next time.
I went in a minute roulette tonite and had players rebuy buy over twenty time isn't there a limit that can be put on for how many times a player can buy back in as it seems unfair otherwise???
what happens when you de-register from a tournament that you sattelited in too is the buy in for the tournament credited to your account? thanks Posted by hatfield89
Hi
You need to contact Customer Care, thay are the ones who can sort this out for you.
In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Wiiiiiiiii! Knew you'd enjoy it? Your exit? Not much you did wrong there, to be honest. You were in great shape to push (much preferred to being the caller) & he had to hit. He can only really call if he has the Flush draw as well as the K. He did nowt wrong, nor you, just big on big rerally. You are a monsta if you win that coup. It's a hand which, at that stage, blinds, stack, etc, demands you can be ultra aggro, & you were. Just one of those things. Keep the pressure on in those spots. Next time, Final Table, right? Posted by Tikay10
Hello Mr.Tikay,
i would love to reach final table, but it will take more then 2nd try i guess, after online poker in live tournament i have to many tells, 1 young guy next to me comented on few mistakes what he noticed, nice friendly fella with more live experience. Maybe i will try tomorow, if i manage to get myself from online mtts, last few days were best in my short poker live:) and still got lots of books to read, few came this morning. So i try to improve and theory and practice.

Hi Ben,
It's as broad as it's long, really. If the villain kept rebuying, he is swelling the pot, & that means we have more value to win.
If we are opposed to the logic of Rebuys, & many are, it's best to stick to Freezeouts. Less value, but everyone has the same chance.
In a rebuy, we get a LOT more value, but everything comes at a price.
You gave me a bit of advice a few weeks ago when i was struggling with some bad beats. Just wanted to thank you. I've since turned 8 quid into 100 quid. Not bad for someone who has only been playing the game for a total of 4 months eh? happy days. I basically did it by grinding away on the 2p/4p tables with the odd 30p/60p/1.10 DYMs with a couple of decent tourney results (namely a 2.20 BH and a 2.20 Deepstack). Anyway, enough of my micro brags! My bankroll has now grown and i have started to play the 4p/8p cash tables. Am i pushing my luck with only having approx 12 buy-ins or does the bankroll thing not matter too much at these levels? I seem to be a winning player but i am pretty much still a novice in my eyes.
One more thing, i have no problems going deep in MTT's, something i am quite proud of, but i always seem to be short stacked approaching the bubble. I have heard you banging on about changing gears as the blinds go up. I do try to steal a bit more from the button as the game progresses but i seem to get myself into trouble here. Maybe you could just explain it a bit more in depth for me please? You know, what sort of places i should be looking to kick on? Levels and whatnot?
In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Hi Bobby, Firstly, apologies for missing the question originally, & thank you for being understanding about it. You'd be amazed at how upset some peeps get if I miss a question, or a greeting, but I'd never swerve it deliberately, & I just struggle to cope with everything, & I miss stuff sometimes. Difficult question to answer, really. A service provider can charge whatever they wish, as long as they do so openly, & Clients have the choice of accepting or not. It's how the free market works the world over. An Online Poker Room proivides a basket of value (or not), not just Reg Fee & Rake, but a whole bunch of other stuff, too. All of these things need to be factored into any price equation comparision. Put simply, it's a business model decision, & I'm not party to their thinking on "why", nor is it right for me to question it, it's their perfect right, just as long as they do it openly & transparently, & Clients have the option of accepting, or not, as they see fit. No two supermarkets change the same price for identical products, but the overall "basket" of prices represents the true competiveness. "Necessary/moral"...... "necessary", both parties have a choice, but it's not "necessary" as such. It's a business, though, & that's a decision they choose to make, & they do so in full possession of the data which we must presume tells them that the price is, in the true sense, cost effective. If the price of a product ever gets out of line, the sales data soon shows it so, & it's adjusted accordingly. We can assume much from that. "moral". I'm not sure where "moral" comes into it, with due respect, I'm srtruggling to see any moral issue. Good question, & I apologise again for the delay in replying. Posted by Tikay10
Hi Tikay, sorry have been away and only just read your reply to my post and wanted to say thanks for taking the time to answer. Understand and agree with your thouughts - and I'm still here playing the 2p/4p because in my experience sky poker is the most user friendly site around, there's a great spirit amongst the players and reading the forums / channel 865 really helps my play. Keep up the good work! Bobby
