Hi Tikay. Pocket aces are the best hand pre-flop in T/Holdem, but what is/are the best hands pre-flop in Omaha? Also - given we now have one of the best starting hands pre-flop, what sort of flop would we be looking for to make it worth while going to a chase? I'm sure there are too many scenarios to mention them all, so just example would do nicely. Thanks Pokertrev. Posted by POKERTREV
OK, one last reply, before I go.......
Omaha is not like NLH in that respect, we don't worry so much about best pre-flop hands, it is the flop that matters.
However, I suppose the "best Omaha starting hand" is something like A-A-K-K ds. (ds = Double Suited). We can often tell, by pre-flop betting, if someone has the Aces in Omaha, bearing in mind, of course, we are playing pot limit, not no limit, so they can't jam on us.
If Mr DS Aces man turned his hand face up, pre-flop, we would still gladly go to war with, say, a high double suited rundown - say, 8-9-10-J.
The key here (imo, opinions vary of course) is to flat the pre-flop Raise & then re-assess on the flop.
What flop do we want, with our nice 8-9-10-J rundown?
Ideally, if it includes, say, 6-7 (full str8 draw & improvers), two pair, trips, our flush draw, etc, then we can engage in battle, as we are in monsta great shape now, with 2 cards to come. Our man with the Aces is 99% certain to c-bet, so we can look at our respective stacks now, & decide whether to check-raise him, or just bet out. In most cases, Aces man is never gonna let go, as he'll happily do his entire stack here.
And remember, we DO want his entire stack, not just some of it. In Omaha, on a standard evening's play, you will need to get the whole lot in on several occasions if you are playing properly. You must NOT play with "scared money".
What flops do we want if it is us with the Aces? Hard to gauge, really. Ideally low, & not co-ordinated, but the truth is, no matter what flop comes, we are pretty much stuck with C-Betting now.
Personally, I almost prefer to have the rundown than the Aces, as they are easier to play, & get away from. It's tough to get off Aces in Omaha unless facing extreme turn or river strength.
Pre-Flop, our 8-9-T-J ds is about a 40%-60% dog - but it is the FLOP that is key. If we flopped, say, 6-7-9, two of our suit, then Aces man is, literally, almost drawing dead now - but he does not know that!
I am going away tomorrow, for about a week, to a remote cottage, in Noth West Scotland, near the Isle of Skye. I don't actually know, but I very much doubt it'll have internet, or even TV, so I'll be truly "out of touch", though some may say that's been the case for some time...... So, I MAY not be able to answer any questions on "Ask tikay", or reply to PM's & e-Mails, until I return, sorry. My next Show on 865 will be for the UKOPS Main, on December 30th, but I may return a day or two before that, assuming I don't get snowed in....... I hope you all have exactly the Christmas you hope for, I really do. As you know, I'm not an Xmas fan - each to their own - but all joking aside, I don't begrudge those who do, quite the contrary in fact. For the New Year, well, poker is an irrelevance compared to real life, in truth, but I do wish everyone health, peace, & happiness in 2012. And some poker run-good, of course. Posted by Tikay10
Wow! You really do hate Christams.
Hope you have a nice time sir, and don't forget to pack the thermal long johns.
Hiya Tikay, I wonder if you could spare ten minutes ( when you return ) to look through the thread for the "except Orford, Obviously" competition and pick a winner for us, I know it's rather silly, but then, so is christmas innit---- Thanks for everything Tikay! --- Hope you have a great break away, and Happy new year!

Hi Tikay and merry xmax and a happy new yrear to all the guys and gals at sky.
When the last Ukops was running sky ran a game for £12 in which the winning won a place into the main event and the next 5 runner ups won tickets into other UKOPS events. It would seem that the numbers entered at present are not encurraging.
The current sats are just too expensive and the odds poor.
Would it be possible to have some more games at £12 with a simular garantee. There would be over 100 players for sure just like before and boost numbers and interest in this series of the UKOPS events.
The TSP classic regularly pulled numbers of 150 + every night and so did the UKOPS event that replaced it.
if this was to happen there woukld be far more tickets to play for.
I read a lot of posts on this forum, aimed at sky/you about bad beats, rigged, etc.
Must be quite demoralising reading and answering them, but hey,you have a job to do.
Since joining sky ive deposited a couple of hundred, and it that time learnt a great deal from you and the regs on here.
Im a student of this great game, love my mtt.s,small stakes, usually reach top 50% of fields,so basically getting there.
BAD BEATS=standard, there gonna happen, tilt,i can honestly say i dont suffer from it.
Get to the point lenny,i just want to say a huge thank you to you and the regs, ive just binked a 7k $3 torno with 2500 runners for $1200,i would not have got close if i had,nt listened and learnt from you and the rest of the gang.
Why does the Hot-O-Meter on Sky tournament tables show varying percentage figures for a single pair before the community cards come down? It seems to vary from around 42.6 up to 45.3 approx. Surely it's the same whatever cards you hold and should be just under 60%? Is the smaller figure taking into account the smaller chance of two pair and deducting that figure? But I don't see how those 2 figure can alter pre-flop.

If you have K2 off, or 67 suited, you are still just as likely to hit a pair. HOWEVER, the 67 suited would be more likely to hit a flush or straight, so the pair wouldn't actually play (Think I've explained that okay)
hi Tikay i see that sky poker has been held in the grovner casino at luton and newcastle. please can you tell me if you use the grovner casino in westwood cross ramsgate if not is there any planes too. regards alan (cookyman)
Oh I see. Sort of. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I'm not sure how the chance of hitting a straight changes the chance of hitting a pair, but I can see where you're coming from. Thanks again.

TIKAY, i think you should advertise on sky channel 865 that unless you contact sky poker direct to be entitled to a refund for last nights 8pm bounty hunter as there was a fault on the programme that you where only getn 3 hands a blind level or else sky will keep the money in their coffers

What about people like me who were multi tabling are we expected to come off all tables to apply for our money back on a error at sky I DONT THINK SO. but for the record I contacted sky later and was satisfied with the explanation given. and the refund recieved.
