    Review

On paper the year looks decent
Around £5.5k profit from online and live games and an amazing trip to Vegas. Cashing in a WSOP event was a huge buzz. Shortly after that I won £600 in the priority freeroll at Dtd and things were good.

Scratch beneath the surface a little and there are some worrying things. I was flying up until September. £6k up and on for my best ever year.
Since then I've been a losing player. If it wasn't for substantial rakeback, affiliate bonuses etc I'd be down a lot. For example I put in a lot of volume at the start of October and made nearly £1k in bonus payments. Sng promotion helped with that.

It's frowned upon but I always include rakeback in profits. The way I see it I have a starting balance and a finishing balance. How I get there I don't really care. However, that's all well and good when you're winning but when rakeback is only just covering losses then it's time to have a proper look at things.

So I think I'm done for this year with a profit of around £5.5k and the Vegas trip. I averaged just over £8k every year for my first 3 years on Sky from online and  live play and so it's a bit disappointing.

I've lost my way on and off the tables in the last few months. To get back on track I really need to focus and so for the first time I'm going to set myself some goals for next year.

As an example, it's been clear for a long long time that I'm hopeless at online cash. Stop playing it Paul!
Also Dyms are my best game. They suit my limited skill. They're not thrilling but with chunky rakeback they can be very profitable.
I have one of the best ROIs on the site at decent levels and from a good sample.
    Play Dyms Paul!

    2016 Goals

    Be a good Dad

    Be happy

Post less on here and be positive when I do. Sky has been fantastic for me and I've met some great people who are now real friends. I'd like to give something back rather than cause problems.

Get my handicap back down to 7

    Get fitter / lose weight

Watch Derby in the Premier League

Make priority at least 6 times

Play Dyms for 95% of my online poker

Not one hand of online cash* Feel free to punch me in the face at a live comp if you see play cash on here

    Have a 10k year

Cash allowed if there are promotions

    .....

Thank you to everyone who puts up with me and posts on here. I'm sorry it's just been a whinge thread for what seems like forever.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas

Impressive stuff considering the circumstances Paul, what with looking after Penny & Harry, the travails of Derby County & all those dental issues, well done.

I agree that the best way to measure profit is the Account Balance, but the Viva Las Vegas Trip had a face value of £3,200, how do you account for that?

    £3,200 - Buyin of target tournament + amount cashed =  $$$

    That's what I'd go with ^.

    ------

Ofc rakeback should count in profits.  :)

The great P explained to me the other day...

"people need to stop differentiating between a winning player and a rakeback grinder
a rakeback grinder still beats the game and is therefore a winning player. imagine if rake was zero, he'd crush" Being a winning player with good rakeback bonuses, even better.

Congrats on another very good year at the tables Paul.

    It's not 2016 yet so I can have a little moan :)

Christmas Eve and Harry was properly poorly. He woke up half an hour after going to bed and absolutely everything needed changing. Spent the next hour trying to get him back to sleep to no avail. Then spent the next 2 hours driving around Derby and still no good. Finally dropped off and I felt amazing on Christmas morning after 4 hours sleep.
Harry's Mum woke up on Christmas Day with tonsillitis.
His Grandma had him last night so I could go and have a drink. Got blown out 5 minutes before going by only mate who lives close by.
    It's been testing :)

Went to the match on Boxing Day. We didn't play well but who cares? We're top of the league.

As I had nothing else to do I relented and played some dyms. Won about £30. Decided as I was home alone that I'd pop out to the casino to play some cash. The standard is still incredible. You can buy in for 500 bigs so there was probs around 3k on the table. Only played for an hour but had a nice little £90 win.

Tom Ince was in the casino. He's tiny.

Been feeling old tonight. Watched Coming to America again. Great film. Came out in 1988!
Started watching Wayne's World. 1993 for that one.

Leeds on tv tomorrow night if it doesn't get postponed. Please let us beat them this time. Only defeats of season have been to them and Forest.

    B*llocks to your resolutions
Keep up the moaning please, i don't want to be the only one.
More mtts - you're just as good at them as dyms - you just don't like the variance - your NY resolution should be to crush the mtts on sky and chill with the variance of it all.

Sick as a dog the other night.
Couldn't go into work. Bit better today.
My concerned employer rung me to invite me in for a managerial meeting to discuss my absence and how they could assist in my return to work.
A really nice gesture because my manager is also a doctor and would have been able to fix me quickly.

    Won some money :)
Not lots but good for confidence. Dyms have been going well. Not played many but it's nice to add £50 or so to the bankroll when I do play. Hopefully it'll last.
Jumped in a UKOPs sat earlier. There was ridiculous overlay and I managed to get my seat. Just took the cash which might upset one of the forum good guys.

Railed Cpfc last night. Another bracelet for him. They quite suit him.
I'd like to say he bossed it all and outplayed the opposition. Truth is, he flopped a set every 3rd hand and his opponent always had just enough to ensure that he got another double up.
Definitely as with his football team, he's punching above his weight.

Leeds lived up to their image last night and attempted to kick us off the park. We didn't play well but not a bad point I spose.
They have a most likeable manager. He's absolutely perfect for them.

Been happy with my poker this month

Pride comes before a fall :)

Realised that if I raked $40 today I would get a $75 rtr bonus.
So I played and ran like poop. Lost £49 (was a lot worse)
Got the points I needed. Checked currency converter and I'll get £50.65

    Win ;)

No more moaning from me. This could be tough!

    Happy New Year you lot
