This has absolutely nothing to do with Brexit. Brexit undoubtedly causes negative effects economically, but this article is just rubbish.

The 1 thing Brexit has not done (at least yet) is create any economic barriers to imports from the EU. Unlike our European counterparts.

So-of itself-Brexit causes naff all difference to the price of Imports. and there is absolutely nothing in EU Law preventing Members from charging different prices to non-Members (or indeed Members). This is just the Grauniad spouting rubbish. As usual.

If the EU is such an impossible place to trade now, how is it that the UK retailers in this survey are managing to sell goods to the EU at the same price as in the UK?

These price differentials for EU imports are caused by a variety of factors:-

    1. Travel/shipping costs have gone through the roof. Everywhere. Guess what? That is increasingly true for an Island. Any Island.
    2. We are on the edge of Europe. In shock news, France is closer to Germany than we are
    3. Some countries are faring far worse than us. Spain is on its knees, simply because its most important industry is Tourism. Need deep discounts to sell anything there
    4. Much easier to increase prices to countries that do not have a massive border with another country. England is going to be far loss price-sensitive than, say, France
    5. Can always rely on some thicko newspaper to blame it all on Brexit, so EU businesses can rip us off without being called out on it

Would be really good if any newspaper concentrated on the news. Rather than its own agenda. Right now, I fear the most accurate newspaper is the Daily Star!

“In the UK specifically, we have the obvious challenges involved in dealing with constantly changing exchange rates, coupled with the post-Brexit burden of having to pay import duties twice on a number of products (once as goods enter the EU, and again once they enter the UK).”
Decathlon explained that Brexit, plus other factors, were behind the higher UK prices.

In relation to Ireland, the company added: “Their stock comes directly from France, and given that they are an EU member state, they are not burdened with the same additional costs as the UK.”

If you spend more than £390 in shops elsewhere in Europe this summer, get ready to pay customs duties and VAT on your return – which can easily add 20% or more to the price paid.

But a holidaymaker splashing out on, say, a €500 suit or dress while in an EU country, would have to pay up to £99 in duties and VAT when they return to the UK.

Holidaymakers are liable for taxes and duties on all goods bought over the £390 allowance. For example, if you are bringing in a £500 laptop and a £100 watch, you will need to pay tax on the watch and the laptop.

If you live in Northern Ireland, then it’s a completely different story, with the province treated as if it is inside the EU for customs purposes. That means the tax on an item of adult clothing bought in Barcelona and taken home to Belfast is zero.

HMRC’s website says: “You do not pay duty or tax on alcohol, tobacco and most other goods you bring in to Northern Ireland from the EU.”

To say that this is nothing to do with Brexit, is a bit of a stretch.

Now that we’re post-Brexit, online shopping rules have changed. If the products you’ve ordered are arriving from the EU, you may find that you’ll have to pay extra to receive them.

Found a bargain on eBay for something I've been hunting for a little while now. Unfortunately, the seller's in France, which, thanks to Brexit, means I'd probably be looking at an extra £200 slapped on top to import it. Cheers fellas.

Agree with a lot of this.

1 thing that is wrong. BP did not make "7 million profit" in 3 months.

They made $7 BILLION (£5,000,000,000). In 3 months.

Regain control of Britain's borders? It's the post-Brexit slogan spouted by politicians, but a record 21,000 migrants have crossed the Channel in trafficker's boats so far this year

According to the National Strategy for Maritime Security, up to 250,000 migrants are set to make the Channel crossing to the UK by 2027. Records are being broken for the numbers arriving in the UK
