OK here goes, its not a brag post because you did ask:
Monday fly to New York (via Heathrow with Virgin PE)
staying for 3 nights at the Crowns PLaza Times Square
then from there to Las Vegas (Virgin America PE) staying for 7 nights at the Mirage
From there we fly to Miami (American Airlines first class)
We have 7 days where we will drive down to the Keys (over lots of bridges!!)
Then finish off for 14 nights at Clearwater Beach (the one with the roundabout!!)
Fly home from Orlando to Manchester (Virgin PE)
We have both retired from work now so this is our retirement present to ourselves
I have just mentioned to 'the father' about Mount Charleston Lodge and he is googling as we speak, (lol) and the verdict is...yes we have to do it so looks like we will be hiring a car for at least a day. Think we will also be taking in a couple of shows whilst we are there. But most of all want to play some poker. I love playing live poker but i know at SPT's i play way too tight so my plan is to play and have fun, splash the chips around do some funky moves and if they dont work, hey what does it matter, I'm in Vegas theres always another game!!
If i get chance i will definitely let you all know what we are up to.
Behave yourself at the tables!!
See you soon
Mother
PS the father is currently chatting to the daughter who sends her love (she is sunning herself at the moment in the Canaries)
I guess I was hasty, I'll play the £3 games during the day. The £5 games don't run then then! I'm only giving them up because I find it difficult to 'try' in them, no other reason. In the £5 and odd £11 game I don't make the sigh/exacerbation/'youhaven'tplayedthathandpreflopsurely call. £3 games I just give up and do! Can't help myself. Don't forget your flask of bisto for the afternoon tea. Posted by Macacgirl1
I get your meaning, & sometimes have the same problem. A "thin" play presents itself, & I instinctively look to see if it is a £3 game or an £11 game, in the latter, I'm likely to be a little more prudent, in the £3er I tended to think "it's only a £3er, lets go".
But thats our fault, not theirs, & we have to treat them all with the same degree of care.
Anyway, I'm glad you'll still play £3ers, we both have so many pals there, we'd miss them very much if we abandoned the £3ers.
Teeks, China is humongous, and becoming bigger & more important by the day. Here's another one for you: Tencent, mkt cap $150bn, they have a free smartphone messaging app wechat that has free voice and video calls etc etc and over 400million users. amazing that - you can have video calls with friends overseas, all for free. way more powerful than the Western equivalent WhatsApp, and vastly more commercial opportunities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tencent and what of one of your favorite materials - concrete China now produces and consumes over 60% of the world's cement and railways - they've just built a 1,100 mile long high speed railway in 4 years - The Lanzhou–Ürümqi High-Speed Railway - that makes our planned HS2 sound like a spare-time project for a branch line! Posted by GELDY
Mind-boggling stuff Gelders.
Tencent are the 4th biggest internet company in the world, bested only by google, Amazon & E-Bay. They employ 26,000 people. google "Tencent" & there's a ton of stuff about them. I actually thought Tencent was a rapper for some reason.
I don't claim to be clever, but I'm well-read, & take a great interest in business matters the world over, but I'd never heard of them.
What a big world we live in.
The commercial growth in China in my lifetime, especially since the days of Chairman Mao, is unparalleled.
In Response to Re: Can an old dog learn new tricks? : R4 did a feature on him on monday i think. Well worth looking up on the iplayer. Dressing in army fatigues and declaring war on ebay. Posted by TeddyBloat
Thanks Teddy, I'll have a look at that.
I've been busy researching Mr Ma the last few days, wowzer, it's staggering. LOVE to see "self-made men", & original thinkers who succeed in business.
Jack Ma, Steve Jobs, Page & Brin, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Michael O'Leary, Jack Welch, Mike Ashley, Jack Cohen, Terry Leahy, I cannot tell you how much I admire these people.
I've got a business trivia question for you now. NO GOOGLING. I know you won't cheat, but here's a business question for you.
I had the good fortune to take Afternoon Tea @ Fortnum & Mason yesterday, it was a birthday gift. I had never visited F & M before, & it blew me away, ogling all the rich folks, but most of all, how incredibly clever that place is, what a successful business it must be, & how beautifully managed it is. So I went a-googling, to find out about the business.
It is a PLC, but without googling, betcha can't guess what is odd about the ownership structure, or who owns it?
The internet is SUCH a great resource for the curious mind. And yes, I have a curious mind.
In Response to Re: Can an old dog learn new tricks? : So i can't bring my spanners then ! :-) Probably give it a few weeks or so. Need to recover from the 6 week runbad i had. Posted by VespaPX
You'll need a scaffold spanner soon, to remove that scaffold.
How are you coping with the scaffold? Any pain or discomfort?

Afternoon Tea was awesome.
Rasberry Charlotte, Lemon Drizzle, warm scones with lemon curd & clotted cream, mmmm. Might Post some photos later.
Hi teeks, So I notice even YOU have a win-rate of 59% across the DYM's. Not bad going. Makes me a feel a bit better about my game atm. I'm currently languishing on 51% since I started logging my scores after making my 1st deposit back on August 8th, and I KNOW that I need to increase this substantially IF I am to make any progress in DYM's. OK, I KNOW and acknowledge that there is a distinct difference between myself and you guys, in that you are playing PLO8 and I'm playing NLHE. In terms of NLHE, I'm taking on advice from a guy called Devonfish5, who has documented significant success playing DYMs. I've had alot of messages on my thread analysing my play and also my win-rate and even some suggestions about perhaps moving up a couple of levels as my win %'age would garner a small increase in BR rather than it being stagnated as it is at the microstakes when I achieve say cashing 3/5 games. Dev thinks my skills aren't yet honed enough to move up, and besides I'm happy sticking where I am at the moment, playing the 60p games with my BR being just shy of £40. Additionally, I have recently added a small top-up in order to gain a reputable sample of 30p Turbo DYM's which attract same points value as the 60p's and therefore I'd be able to chalk up alot more of these games in the same timeframe I take to play a few standard dym's and that way earn much more points and therefore get a much better chance of earning some decent "rake-back" (as some ppl like to call it). I have also debated on depositing again, a larger sum of money to take a good shot at the higher stakes games but I've had alot of debate both for & against - I wonder what your thought's would be? Morning Gary.
First & foremost, you have to tick TWO boxes. The answer to these two things are entirely specific to you, not anyone else.
1) Enjoy it.
2) Do so within your financial means.
Thats it really.
Macac said this, though, & I agree with her...... (most especially D)
A) You/We aren't playing with scared money. You/We are playing at a buy-in level that you can win at over a large sample size. C) You/We are playing at a buy-in level that you can beat the rake, over a large sample size (more important than D) Regardless of A,B & C, you HAVE TO enjoy it.
On balance, & personally, if you can manage a £40 Bankroll, I think playing the £1ers is just fine. DYM's are relativelty low-variance, so 40 Buy-Ins seems fine to me.
If you could manage, say, £50, then I'd almost suggest playing £3ers is fine, but not if you "play scared". I've "played scared" too many times, it is no fun. Now I play within my comfort zone, & I've never enjoyed poker more. You should do the same, no matter what anyone tells you.
Have you read John Connor's DYM Guide? It's amazingly good.
I'd also say that it is increasingly hard to win at NLHE these days, so many people play it so well. Many of us have accepted this, & moved onto to easier pastures such as PLO or PLO8, though a word of caution, PLO & PLO8 CAN be very "swingy", & you'd have to come to terms with what NLHE players consider to be horrendous beats. You'll get them every single day in the 4 card game, & you have to be able to take those beats without flinching or whingeing. I guarantee you, if you play PLO or PLO8, you will see "perferct perfect runner runner" beats EVERY session. And you'll dish them out, too.
Anyway, do what you most ENJOY mate, thats the key thing. We aint ever going to win enough to retire, so what we should really aim for is to have our poker fun at nil, or low, cost. If we can do that, we are doing fine. Cheaper than a night down the boozer, for sure.

Wowzer!
Hope you have an abso blast, you both deserve it.
I tried retiring 10 years ago, & made a bit of a mess of it one way & another, lol.
Make sure you go to Mt Charlston LODGE, not RESORT. Different places.
Best regards to the Father, & a big hug to The Daughter, but don't tell the policeman.
Mr K, any suggestions for best place to hire car from in Vegas? Ta Mother xx Posted by Amarie
In my personal experience, hire it from the car hire booth at your Hotel. No queues, & the car will be waiting in the Hotel Car Park for you next morning, no fuss no bother.
The nut worst way is hiring it at the Airport. You have to get a shuttle bus from the Terminal to a giant Car Hire Emporium about 2 miles away, where there are 8 or 10 Car Hire Firms. There will be 200 or more people in there, all tetchy after long flights, with bigger queues than the Immigration Hall, you'll be there HOURS. Nightmare, proper nightmare.
Took me 5 minutes tops to arrange it at the Hotel booth. Might have paid $10 or so over the top but well worth it. We don't go on holiday to stand in queues.

Briliant thanks for that will defo do that.
Mr B has been googling Charleston Lodge and thinks the drive there should be awesome so if i get the chance will send piccies. Probably hire the car for a couple of days at least and do Hoover Dam (lots of concrete or is it cement..is there a difference?) and perhaps Lake Mead although according to Mr B there is a bit of a drought over there so it may just be a pond!!

They actually sent me home with a spare spanner attached to the front of my Halo vest. I've resisted the temptation to have a fiddle.......................so far!
Coping much better now thanks in no small part to my wonderful wife. Still have to sleep sat up which is a pain but getting more used to it now. Got an X-Ray appointment next week so should see how the healing's going. Luckily i'm quite comfy in my computer chair at my desk to play some Poker.
Back to the poker, sort of. Yesterday I came up with the obvious plan of stopping myself from playing daft. I left myself a limited BR to fund the £3 games only. Surprise, surprise, it forced me to play a bit more sensibly and I only gave up a couple of times due to the weekend craziness. Loving it!
First day back at work after nine weeks off ........... URGH The only thought getting me through the day is that when I get home I can enjoy some poker............... Get back to play five @£5.50........ Lose four.........URGH I just cannot wait to get back to work............URGH
HahaNnic ! Just look at Pompey they are in the top half of the table. Great ur back at work give it a few weeks and u will be flying again. Look at the great company u have every night ..the ploppers sure what more can you ask for!

We too/two are retiring next year and our final 'big' holiday is something similar.
Have super fun
