We are settling in really well in the new house, there are a few minor things which the house builders need to sort out but nothing major. I am pottering about putting mirrors, pictures, blinds and curtains up, things which make the house a home.Of course we won't be able to decorate for a good 6 months or so.
I was deeply upset by the passing of Dale, although I never met him we did chat quite a few times on the tables, he introduced me to the Dtd games which I thoroughly enjoy, he was one of the first to post on this thread and the way he was taken from us made me realise how lucky I am.

I am quite emotional today, reason being is that I made the decision to start the decking in the garden, I drew it out, my lovely wife asked if we could have it so one end could fit the tool storage on and the other end wider to accomadate the new furniture she is going to purchase, oh and she doesn't want it to be 2 rectangles :)
I came up with a design we both sort of agreed on but we could add to as it took shape, today I started on the base at 10am, the bottom fence isn't square to the side fence so that throws a bit of a spanner in the works so to speak. I managed to overcome that, then I started on the shaped one which was originally was to be curved but we decided that would not give enough room so we changed it to angled at one side ( 3no. 15degrees to meet with the side) my wife called me in at 6pm for dinner just as I had finished the base and was packing everything away, oh I forgot to mention my son Colin came at mid day to help.
That is the first time since last year I have been able to work such a long period without rest or not feeling absolutely knackered afterwards, I do feel tired but the joy I have from looking what I achieved today outweighs any tiredness.
My wife came out to help a few times, and one time gave me a big hug and said how proud she was of me, she knows I have been feeling emasculated since the op and radiotherapy, I was so happy when she said that, little things like that really make an impact, maybe I will learn one day how to make others happy by doing or saying summat.

Tom-I am sure I speak for lots of people when I say you make us happy just by being you. Glad to see life is treating you better.

I echo what stokey & Phil wrote.

Keep us posted on the decking please.

What a heroine your wife is - says the right things at the right time.

Dale? Yes, I guessed at the time it would have been something that really made you think. The only blessing for Dale - if we can think & say such a thing - is that it was reasonably quick. My Dad was very ill for a very long time before he passed away, & as there was no way back from his illness, & I actually wanted him to die quickly & peacefully. But he lingered, which was terrible for him, & for us.

Anyway, post more often please, you are in no danger of becoming a bore, & lots of regulars here like to hear how you are getting on. You are family.

    sorry to hear that teeks
when i lost my father i was very pleased it was quick, and as you say I think many of us would rather quick than long but nasty

meanwhile gl tom - that decking sounds great, and a good sign for your mental & physical health (& marital so it would seem)

    Thanks Gelders.

I'm pleased you understood, it's a difficult & emotive subject for most to grasp. I never loved anyone or anything more than my Dad, so when I prayed for him to die, that's some weird coup. I have a real story to tell about what happened, but this is probably not the time or place.

Anyway, back on topic, we need to know how this decking is progressing.

PS - Gelders - don't reply if it's personal, private, or NOMB, but I was playing some PLO8 DYM's the last few days, & you were notable by your absence. Do you not partake any longer, have all those extraordinary Geld-Modes been laid to rest? You really were some tough opponent.

my absence from the tables, teeks, is due to a confluence of circumstances, including some frustration with skypoker (demise of skypoker tv and the behaviour of certain members of the community for example).

so i retired from online poker

my timing was horrendous, as the person most vocally upset with this was Dale, who was unwell at the time. my resistance broke when his terminal diagnosis came through and so i returned to play to support him. for now i am sporadically playing in dedication to him, but that is the most it'll be. it does include playing PLO8, but more the mtts than dyms. but now you're back you never know I might pop in occasionally.

Wow, now there's  story in itself, how extraordinary.

The Social-Media lynch mob? I just ignore them.

Whatever you do Gelders, be happy, & as you will have noticed, when people decide to leave, or stop playing on Sky Poker, I never urge them to reconsider. Your style of playing was extraordinary, though, & it deffo pepped up the games, & got us all thinking. You can't learn that stuff in books or via tutorials.

Thank you for your kind replies chaps, I must say there has been quite a turn around in my general well being, I feel much happier now I am back in the workplace and being able to keep busy at home, also my son has a new job which he is very happy with. He came round the other day and said that all I had taught him at work is really helping him in his new job, that was nice to hear, we have our ups and downs but he understands the message I try to put across and when we both are in a good space we can chat and pretty much agree on a lot of things, he has a good heart and I am proud of him as I am all my 3 children.
Poker has been pretty good lately, wife went to bed early Sunday after watching me work all day ;) so I thought I would see if there was any tourneys due at 9pm, entered the £11 b/h and as luck would have it I made the f/t as chip leader, things sort of went a bit awry then, I went all in 3 times - each time with AQ only to be up against AA every time oops. Made about £70 though so alls good, I played the dtd games last night and f/t one of em eventually fin 3rd for nearly £20, I would have done better in one of the others if my QQ raise utg had held v the stubborn bb with 7.2. He eventually bust my AK allin with a slightly better 7.2 suited lol what a game :)
The decking is on hold til this weekend, we are going to a wedding Reception Sat evening so timing is critical:) I may need to buy new trousers as I have put on weight around the midriff - no more 32 waist for this chap :(
It is good to see Geldy playing, if only sporadically it's always a pleasure doing battle with a chap who has game.
I can understand the heartbreak of parents passing, both mine passed away when I moved to Eastbourne, I was closest to my Mother, we used to meet in the pub after I finished my early shift in the pit and have a few drinks, game of 5s and 3s dominoes, have a bet at bookies and watch em on pubs tv,I was distraught and the guilt of being away from home stayed with me for a long time.
I shall update what will be slow progress on the decking when I can fit it into my full schedule:) I may even go through the head scratch of posting a pic of the finished article.
Thanks again,I like it when folk post here, it makes me happy to know I am not rambling to myself .

Those were the highlights - feeling happier/better, & putting on weight. It's an old wives tale I suppose, but Grandma Angell always told me that when someone puts on weight it is, on balance, usually a sign that they are well. Unwell people usually LOSE weight. It's a generalism, of course, but not a bad rule of thumb.

Let me know when you expand to a 34 waist. ;)

    Amen to that.

As you may know, I've not played Online since February, but since I returned from Vegas, I've been having a few sessions. Guess I ought to resurrect my "Diary" Challenge thread & report on how I am getting the lot. Or not.....

I had half a dozen tables open last night, & Gelders & I clashed a few times. He's a perfect pain to play against, a real test, as you never quite know what he is going to do. 90% - maybe 95% - of my opponents play very consistently, & I know EXACTLY how they will respond to a raise or re-raise. X & Y, for example, if they call 30 chips & it then goes pot pot pot will STILL call. Extraordinary thought process there. Or if I raise to 2,000, & they have, say, 2010 behind, they FLAT call. Go figure. Not Geldy though. Not saying he is good - or bad - he's just what I call an awkward shaped parcel. (As in, difficult to handle).

Oddly, we were on 2 tables last night at the same time, & on both of them he raised into me when I was holding the Aces. Timing is all. Just as well for me, as although I've made steady (but small) profits each night since Vegas, I did chunks last night, in fact I lost 6 of 7 games at the £5 Level.

Then, whilst I was having some connection issues, a chap apparently shoved on me for 815, with me in the Big @ 400-800, so it was 15 for me to call into 1,615.  As I was didsco'd at the time, I never saw it, but eagle eyed Gelders did. "How many tables, teeks?" he asked perceptively. As it happens, it was not due to too many tables, it was due to not enough, but that's another story. The site was, in truth, a bit of a mare last night.

Last weekend was a bit of a washout weather wise, Alex came round to help with the decking.,we only managed to level it out before the thunderclouds were overhead, to be honest I was feeling unwell since I got up so perhaps that was a blessing.

I managed to find trousers that fit my ever increasing rotundage ( thanks for that word Mr K ) The gubbins I have to put in my trouser pockets ( e cig, tablets, wallet, keys, various pieces of paper, etc) create havoc with holding them up, belts just slide down below my waist and it does my head in, so I got my new braces out and hey presto:) unfortunately as I had a jumper on there was a slight flaw to my cunning plan when I had to rush to the bathroom :(

We had a lovely time at the wedding reception, even though I wasn't feeling too great I managed to mingle and have a good chin wag to all and sunder, dancing was a little out of the question unfortunately but like I said my wife and I really enjoyed ourselves,we really must get out more. I was on my last legs at 11pm and as we were putting one of my wife's friends up for the night and I was the designated driver I felt obligated to hang on, my wife could see how I was and asked if I would like to sit in the car for a bit, I had to agree with her and duly went to said resting place, woke up past midnight to my wife tapiping on the windscreen:)
Poker wise I have been doing ok, I actually finished top of the league for the individual monthly dtd ( where's the prizes gone :)
I miss slippy, hope he is ok.
I see there's a UKPC seat up for grabs for two folk who post story on poker exploits, I think mine is old hat now so I won't bore everyone yet again.

thars all for now, good luck all and be happy.
