In Response to Re: Markycash diary - Real life, Pokering & Cashout Curses. : Cheers IH8UButler I couldn't agree more about these games being stressful. Something a top player with 7 figure+ MTT winnings said to me once is rather pertinent in my mind just now. He said he didn't bother too much with satty qualifiers and rather than play for example a £400 buy in game for a package he would just play tourneys of equivelant value and use the cash for the trip. I think I may do this in future. I mean there are pros and cons to it.... More forgiving payout structure and much more games to choose from but on the other hand harder fields. Posted by markycash
Yeah you can do that but then I think it's harder if you win cash as you still then have to spend it on the tourney would be much more tempting to keep it. Hope you make it to Vegas I would be going if not for family commitments just to play the cash games, been watching Andrew Neeme vlogs and think could easily offset the cost of flights etc with some 1/2 or 2/5. If you can afford it I would be tempted to go as heard the live sats to WSOP events are pretty soft as well
And for some balance, a hand from the main event that wasn't a loss lol.
This one may look utterly mental. It was against an extremely proficient player who I felt I had a read on.
Firstly although they are capable of limping an ace in the SB they had been quite aggro and were limping very wide on my BB. I had seen them double float in a few pots, some against me and blast the river super light. When I decide to play this hand and go with the read I know I have to be prepared to put my stack on the line otherwise I am chucking the chips away.
I thought my opponent was calling extremely wide with tons of air hands so they could pressurise me out on the river. I fully intented to take that option away though. The turn reraise was so that either (a) I take the pot on the turn or (b) I take the initiative away from them and hopefully safeguard against them open jamming or leading huge on river so I could shove.
It was obviously effectively a shove for their stack size and not the 28k I shoved.
Would be interesting to hear thoughts on this one lol.
Fairly certain some will think it is horrible, hopefully some will see the plan behind the madness though

Yeah I was planning to go and hit the cash games even if I didn't win a package.
Played a tiny bit of 'Big O' at the Venetian and some NLHE last year although had my dad with me so didn't want to spend all day on the tables. Planned to go and put some hours in this year. It is just a bit of an outlay and I have only been back playing semi-full time for a short while after finishing uni so am undecided.
Will check out the V logs, I may have bookmarked those a few weeks ago actually but forgot to go back to them.
Gutted, hard to fold, we think your doubling up here. Posted by mumsie
Yeah, such a drawy board mumsie so I felt there were a ton of hands in opponents range we were beating. Thought they could be protecting a big overpair or shoving a pair/draw type hand. Peaked out my left eye and saw the tens though lol. Ah well
I hear the opponent has bubbled a few packages so the best of luck to them!
Sorry to say that the Sky folks and package winners didn't get rid of me that easily :-p Made the decision to do the Vegas pilgrimage anyway and have booked my flights. Found direct return flights from LHR to Vegas with British Airways and flight transfers from Glasgow - London all for £700 total. Just have to figure the hotel stuff out and set aside some cash game funds Posted by markycash
Glad you are going over buddy, you were very unlucky last night, I was silently railing and saw the AA hand unfold.....just a sick hand.

Cheers mate, much appreciated
You were very unlucky in the OH8 league, pipped by 1 point on the last day.
Unlucky lastnight Mark, I was keeping an eye on your progress.
People are not only remembered for their success and achievements but also for how they react when they dont succeed.
The later is even more admirable in my view infact especially with what was at stake for you yesterday.
I think how you react to these dissapointments is very admirable, of course its hard but you are setting a very good precedent for how one should act when goals are not achieved and I applaud you for that.
Brutal run of cards mate but your attitude towards the beats shows what a quality player you are. Best of luck in Vegas and I definitely think you're making the right decision heading out there. We fly on Thursday and we can't wait. Posted by bromley04

I too was a silent railer. I joined just after you had left the smaller package final, so I was willing you on in the main package and Groggy and Palace in the £4k. 2/3 ain't bad for a rail I suppose.
I didnt say anything because I sooo didnt want to bok anyone in something that big.
Glad that you're going to Vegas Mark. I wasn't able to watch any of the poker last night as we lost internet from 10 pm onwards but sad to see your exit hands in both Vegas tourneys this morning.
I hope the run bad turns around for you and you make a packet in Vegas.
In Response to Re: Markycash diary - Real life, Pokering & Cashout Curses. : Shug!!!!! Great to hear from you mate, I noticed your name regged in the Super Sunday freeroll. Nice to see you over on Sky mate Yeah, a tough one to take but I just have to suck it up I guess. Hope all is well with you. Always remember the home game at your place with such fond memories. Thanks for the rail mate! Posted by markycash
All well here nowadays m8. Living with my teenage son down in Leven since my divorce. It`s taken some time to adjust but settled down nicely now. Played poker on and off over the years but with zero conviction or concentration. The home game stopped a couple of years ago after 12 years due to diminishing numbers. The good news is that after requests and being in a position to host it again, we`re about to re-start on a monthly basis. The first game will be sometime near the end of June. Date to be confirmed yet but it`s definately on. Of course, you are more than welcome to join us. Buy-in will be 20 or 30 with 10 rebuys.
As always, stringent rules of etiquette will be observed. Berating, goading, coaching from the sidelines and any generally insulting behaviour are highly encouraged.
Glad to see you`ve got the flights booked, just wish I could be joining you but maybe next year now that I`m feeling the love for poker again. Expect to see me in the satts for all the live events doing my usual and trying to qualify from as little as possible.
Take care for now and best of luck at the tables as always my friend. Will let you know the date for the first game once it`s confirmed

Really pleased to hear things are going nicely mate!
Also great to hear you are back playing more, enjoying it and have started the home games up again. June might be a bit tight for me as I will have to focus the effort to get a few $$'s for Vegas on July 9th after the poker gods decided I would be footing the bill myself lol. If they are going to be somewhat regular then you can definitely count me in for some of the future games! If they are anything like the last one I was at then I know they will be so much fun.
Would be great to see you back at the WSOP again next year. If you are in lots of the live sattys I might see you at a live event before then. Sky have just announced their live poker tour the SPT is starting back up with the first event at Manchester in around 10 weeks I think. I will 99.9% be going to that, be great if you managed to bag a ticket. I think the direct buy in is £220.
If you fire a Facebook account up again let me know and I will add you or you can add me my email addy is markycrash@hotmail.co.uk. I still have all the old regs on there, Puggy, NeilMC, Iceman, Dri, Pedro, Arez, Ratty, Bella, Tricky, Trebor, Christian etc etc, sure they would love to hear from you again.
Take care mate and hopefully we can get a wee live game in 1 form or another soon and a catch up over a few beers
