Without this man, unlikely Preston would have a football club and certainly not one in the Championship RIP Trevor Hemmings. Also following his horses in the Grand National worked out well.

"Since buying the club, share issues - his favoured way of investing - has totalled around £37m.

He was a major figure on the horse racing circuit, owning three Grand National winners - Hedgehunter in 2005, Ballabriggs in 2011 and Many Clouds in 2015.

Born in Woolwich, London, Hemmings moved to Lancashire as a youngster with his family and settled in the Leyland area.

Hemmings made his fortune in the building trade and twice owned holiday camp chain Pontin's.

His business empire included housing and the hospitality sector. For a time he was owner of Blackpool Tower.

In recent years Hemmings had been based in the Isle of Man, controlling his business interests from there.

He attended most of North End's home games until the pandemic and over the last few months had re-started his regular visits to PNE's training ground at Euxton.

According to the latest Sunday Times Rich List published in May this year, Hemmings was worth £1.115 billion – a gain of £90 million compared to 2020.

Hemmings was heavily involved in charitable organisations.

A project close to his heart was Rainbow House, a conductive education centre in Mawdsley, near Chorley, which supports children with disabilities." (from lancashire evening post)

    Oh no......such SAD NEWS. :'(

Trevor Hemmings really was a lovely and very generous man o:)

RIP Trevor with your wonderful horses, and especially MANY CLOUDS <3

    @Tikay10 ,
I know you and many others will be sad to hear that Renton Laidlaw has passed away.
Another instantly recognisable voice has gone I’m afraid.

    That's so sad.

I don't have much time or respect for modern-day golf commentators, but the likes of Henry Longhurst (long-time RIP now) & Renton were superb. Good TV commentators realise that there's no need to punctuate silence, it's TV, folks can SEE what's happening. Less is more, just staying quiet most of the time is how golf comms should work, & Renton knew that.

Same applies to snooker commentators. Watching the Northern Ireland Open last night the commentators were driving me nuts with needless comments & stats just to fill the time.

Lionel Blair has passed way. I was very surprised to learn he was 92. Where do the years go?

Tremendous footballer. Really good for Arsenal as a forward, then even better as a midfielder for Liverpool.

Due to a variety of factors, including Parkinson's, had a rather miserable time of it for the last half of his life.

I went into partnership with Chris Marustik, in a wine bar, just after he finished playing.
Some of the players used to call in regularly for a pint, and a chat with Chris.
Ray Kennedy was a nice fella, great player, and a proper gent.
