Without a general election, the Brexit Party is just an angry mob of protesters
“A vote for the Brexit Party is a vote for a WTO Brexit – no ifs, no buts” calls out Richard Tice, the Brexit party chair. He was referring to the upcoming European elections in the UK. This is an interesting position. The “WTO Brexit” aka “no-deal Brexit” is the one that has consistently been rejected by the UK parliament. It rather looks as though the intention of the Brexit party in the EU elections is to install a group of wrecker MPs. To drive their objectives effectively, a general election will be required, bringing to power a party that can either solely, or with coalition, force this outcome, mandated through a clear manifesto. No existing mainstream party is likely to offer a manifesto of this nature, so this would require the Brexit party to win a general election. Let’s assume that this is currently unlikely. So, instead of having MEPs trying to drive the very improvement within the EU that many see necessary, we have a group with a futile function, adding to Nigel Farage’s existing bickering from the back of the classroom. If this new party wishes to achieve something real, tangible, long-lasting and with the likely backing of the electorate, it needs to wipe away the intention to install its wreckers in Brussels and put in place people who aim to drive change from within, to work collaboratively rather than destructively and to contribute to the process. They will not be alone. It appears that there will be a great many Eurosceptic MEPs from a number of countries. Now is the opportunity to work progressively to drive the change within the EU that so many recognise is needed, yet the EU leadership is unable to accept.
Only in this way can the Brexit party become one of progressive function rather than an angry mob of protesters without policy. They might want to rethink the name of the party, however.
Nigel Farage is betraying his own voters A vote for the ‘Brexit Party’ is now a vote for a no-deal Brexit, which no one in the country has ever voted for before
Credit where it’s due. It had not yet been 24 hours since Nigel Farage had been on the Sunday politics shows, warning of the “final betrayal” that was coming. And here he was, not even waiting for it to come, but delivering it himself. The Brexit Party, the party Farage set up himself to contest the European elections he so desperately does not want to be contesting, was holding a press conference to announce it was betraying its own voters.
Farage was introduced by the Brexit Party chairman, a man called Richard Tice, who is best known, though nevertheless unknown, for appearing at political events in a white open-topped bus with “Leave Means Leave” painted down the side.
When it turned up at Tory party conference last year, he promised free non-EU booze to anyone who could spare five minutes to talk to him.
Two people turned up, and one of them, I must reveal, was your humble sketch writer, there exclusively to take the **** out of the whole thing. It did not prove hard.
Anyway, I digress. Tice had a message, and that message was that a vote for the Brexit Party in the European elections was a vote for “a WTO Brexit”, which is better known as a “no-deal Brexit” and best understood as a Place-Sanctions-On-Yourself Brexit.
Quite the volte face then. When Farage and co were going round the country three years ago, armed with slightly different lies, no one whispered a word about no-deal Brexit. Asked about it at the time, Farage’s view was that Angela Merkel simply wouldn’t allow it. She would be running for president again in 2017, and the German car makers would be so angry about it, “she would throw the election”. And yet, here we are, three years on, and, wouldn’t you know, Farage is betraying himself. Betraying everyone he talked round to his cause three years ago, betraying everything he’s ever said, just for the sake of standing in an election, which, just to be absolutely clear, he absolutely definitely doesn’t want to be standing in. Oh no.
This was nevertheless, the less startling of the two big announcements. For we also learn that as well as a vote for the Brexit Party being a vote for “WTO Brexit”, it is also a vote for the Brexit Party’s MEPs to be involved in the Brexit negotiations. It is a vote to simultaneously sit down at the negotiating table and turn it over and walk away.
And who would be doing the negotiating? “The highest quality candidates,” claimed Tice, which are currently not limited to Ann Widdecombe and former Loaded mag editor Martin Daubney, who not so long ago was proud to organise a “straight pride” march through London, fearlessly sticking it to gay pride, standing up for downtrodden straight men everywhere.
The betrayal Farage had been warning about still hasn’t come, by the way. That “betrayal” is a May/Corbyn deal on a temporary customs union, which we are led to believe is imminent but has not yet happened.
If it does, Farage will have every right to be angry. He warned about this at the time, if you remember. He warned and no one listened. You’ll recall the “Breaking Point” poster, where he stood in front of a non-existent queue of lorries stretching no distance whatsoever up the M20, warning that the British people had had enough of frictionless trade with the European Union. That just-in-time supply chain had to be smashed up. It was never about free movement, ended under Theresa May’s deal. Never about payments to the EU, also ended. It was always, always, about the customs union. And if that’s not how you remember it, then maybe, just maybe, the betrayers aren’t who Farage says they are.

Farage RIDICULES Verhofstadt as crowd JEERS europhile's democratic rights plea
NIGEL FARAGE took a brutal swipe at European Commission hopeful Guy Verhofstadt after he condemned the decision of Turkish officials to re-run the Istanbul election, despite previously calling for Britain to have another vote on Brexit. It was revealed on Tuesday that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's political party have been allowed to hold a re-run of the Istanbul election after the AK party lost by a slim margin. The European Union responded to the election re-run with outrage, despite welcoming a second Brexit referendum.
Guy Verhofstadt, Belgian MEP and the ALDE group's leader in the European Parliament, said the decision to dismiss the result of the first election would ultimately lead the country towards a dictatorship.
Speaking from the Brexit Party rally in Peterborough on Tuesday, Mr Farage ridiculed Mr Verhofstadt’s comments and said: “This morning we learnt that the mayoral election in Istanbul a couple of weeks ago in which Erdoğan, the Turkish leader’s candidate, did not win.
“Guess what they are going to do? They are going to rerun the election. Guess what everyone is saying? The Brexit Party leader was disrupted by an echo of boos from the audience. Mr Farage continued: “Juncker says it’s an outrage. Guy Verhofstadt says its an outrage.”
Disrupted once again by a series of boos from the audience following the mention of Europhile Guy Verhofstadt’s name, Mr Farage added: “Yet, they are all happy because they did it with the Danes over the Maastricht Treaty, they told them to vote again.
“They did it twice with the Irish and told them to vote again. And they all think that we should vote again.
“Let me tell you something. It would be an outrage to have a second referendum on the same question if we hadn’t first implemented the result.” The High Election Board (YSK) ruled that a fresh Istanbul mayoral contest will be held on June 23.
Turkey’s opposition, the Republican People’s Party (CHP), has accused the move being a “plain dictatorship”.
Kati Piri, the European Parliament’s Turkey rapporteur, said the decision “ends the credibility of democratic transition of power through elections” in the country.
The AKP had appealed for an election re-run after initial results and a series of recounts showed it had lost control of Istanbul for the first time in 25 years.
Justifying his party's move, Erdogan said in a speech on Monday: "We see this decision as the best step that will strengthen our will to solve problems within the framework of democracy and law."
But the EU’s Guy Verhofstadt ridiculed the move and said: “This outrageous decision highlights how Erdoğan’s Turkey is drifting towards a dictatorship.
“Under such leadership, accession talks are impossible. Full support to the Turkish people protesting for their democratic rights and for a free and open Turkey!"
The Brexit Party is ‘like Burger King - it’s home of the Whopper', Rachel Johnson tells Chopper's Brexit Podcast
The Brexit Party is “like Burger King - it’s home of the Whopper. It’s lie after lie after lie”, one of the leading MEP candidates for the rival Change UK party has said. Rachel Johnson, who is standing for the party in the south west of England, said: “I’ve had lunch with Nigel Farage, he’s very good company. She told Chopper's Brexit Podcast, which you can listen to easily by logging in or subscribing below: “I regard the Brexit Party like Burger King: it’s home of the Whopper. The real – and sinister – reason Nigel Farage is spouting conspiracy theories He and others like him seek to exploit voters’ deepest fears about the ruling order and take power for themselves
‘Arch-conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, a man who has claimed that the Pentagon has used a mysterious “gay bomb” to stop people having children.’
Language, we all know, matters in politics. And in a series of interviews over a number of years, Nigel Farage has been trying on a rhetorical outfit. He spoke about the Bilderberg group, discussed how “globalists” are seeking a “new world order”; how international banking systems are working to disband nation states; that the EU, effectively, is the product of a hidden plot. The interviews were with the arch-conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, a man, let’s remember, who has claimed that the Pentagon has used a mysterious “gay bomb” to stop people having children, and that the US government inflicts weather weapons on the American public. And in screaming tirades, he has claimed that the Sandy Hook shooting – which left 26 people dead – was “completely fake”. He’s currently fighting a legal case over that last claim. It is tempting to see this as a pivot towards the lunatic right, of a politician losing the plot or dropping their mask. But it is the opposite of this. Far from turning his back on mainstream respectability, Farage’s use of the language of conspiracy theories is – in his calculation – the best path to it. A seismic cultural shift is under way in who we trust and how politics works. It is sweeping conspiracy theorists into power – and, Farage might hope, also Nigel Farage. Before Farage, Donald Trump was on Alex Jones’s show. Easily America’s leading conspiracy theorist, Trump questioned throughout Barack Obama’s entire presidency whether he was born in the United States. He has suggested that vaccines cause autism, and that Ted Cruz’s father was involved in the assassination of JFK. Joining him are other world leaders. Viktor Orbán, the prime minister of Hungary, is a conspiracy theorist. So, on occasion, is the Philippines’ Rodrigo Duterte. It is easy to see that conspiracy theories are a peculiarly modern problem of our “post-truth” age. After all, most people – 60% of us in the UK – believe at least one of them. They’ve been around, and popular, for a very long time. But something has been changing: more and more conspiracy theorists are winning power.

Thanks for being the voice of reason during my unavoidable absence. It's not , it's offensive and many people who view this thread but don't contribute will also be of the same mind .
