Took a day off yesterday bar playing in the freeroll (cashed YET AGAIN for £4) whilst watching the always-excellent @Duesenberg 's stream to brush up on some strat. Something seems to have sunk in as I played for an hour just now and managed to scoop up £50. BR has gone from a shoddy £170 on Sunday morning to £390 today.
Hand of the morning below. Remember: it's not spew if you get there.
Eek - appetite for playing has diminished. Not sure if this down to overexposure, lockdown ennui, reg-heavy tables or some little cocktail of all three. Inspired by @PKRPar 's, @Duesenberg 's & @waller02 's streams I'm going to have a stab at grinding tournaments for a few days. The only problems I can see are (a) I'm not very good at tournaments and (b) I don't especially like playing tournaments (c) I'm not really rolled for tournaments. Other than that though, we're golden. Have decided to supplement tournament buy-ins by playing cash and getting it all in with a FD, double gutshot and 9 high and ... holding?
Don't think I'm going to get anywhere near making even £5 rakeback this week. There's a six part Adam Curtis documentary on iPlayer, the above-mentioned lockdown ennui and reg-heavy tables, and a currently-dwindling enthusiasm for cash poker.
Tournaments, however, are a different story. I want to play lots of tournaments. I have a currently-flourishing enthusiasm for tournament poker. That is, until I start playing them, then I begin to hate tournaments. Tournaments work like this: at the beginning you see some flops with speculative hands, then fold. You double at somewhere near the middle. When you have 12-15 bigs as the bubble is approaching you have a flip and lose. Repeat. After the third or fourth time of this happening in an evening you boot around some inanimate objects that are lying around your bedroom floor.
It's great fun, actually, and I'm planning on playing a handful tonight.
Cash is currently supporting my tournament buy-ins. See below. The first hand of the day.
So, 28 points gained so far this week. Bankroll, unsurprisingly, has remained static. Now, I could put this down to having to knock down then rebuild a wall on Monday and Tuesday, then having to travel and give antibody-rich plasma on Wednesday, then feeling a bit washed out Thursday but, frankly, I'm not buying any of that. And I don't expect you to buy any of that. I've just been a bit lazy. And floppy. And uncommitted.
Oh well, just over a week left. Let's hope some of that floppiness goes, shall we? The plan is to build up the roll a little over the weekend then have something of a push next week.
Bankroll hasn't really budged. It would have budged had I solely played cash, but sports betting and tournament peccadilloes mean that online cash is keeping me and the bankroll static.
Interesting hand in a BH yesterday. With blinds at 75/150 I jammed ten bigs with AKs utg. Well, I did the classic bet 1499 chips. Get snapped by a big stack. Flop: 999. Having watched @Duesenberg 's stream on Monday I decide to max timeback, write 'gl' in the chatbox and jam my remaining one chip. Villain has J9. That had me howling for a good hour.
... and if we're talking about hilarious stuff (and we are, we definitely are) my turn sizing here is laughable. OTR - well, throughout - I had villain on pretty much what he has and no doubt he had me on AK. So I was right and he was wrong. Definitely a win for me.
You mention sports betting Steve - what sort of stuff do you bet on? Any particular sports or anything & everything?
I near-exclusively bet on highly ambitious football accumulators. I used to bet on tennis, dogs, horses alongside lots of roulette, blackjack, fruities etc etc - but since stumbling into poker a few years ago though that stuff holds almost zero appeal.
Better day yesterday - even managed to FT an £11 BH and came third for ... pfft, £60-ish? Not sure, was whammed. Not sure how or why I got whammed but I am sure that I have a hangover and have a pretty important, possibly career-defining work meeting at 2pm today. These are the breaks. Thankfully, I have decades of experience outmaneuvering hangovers so I may be okay.
This is the hand that got me on the road to third. Think villain, clearly a fun player, must also have a hangover today.
(actually I quite like his line - actually, I quite like everything about him)
My internal monologue went something like this come the river:
"JJ with a club, what a great spot. I'm blocking flush combos, straights and and he never has AA, TT, or QQ as played. I'm gonna check/jam here to make him sigh fold his Ax combos. Fuuuuuckk!!!".
Nice hand bud, although I was genuinely disappointed you didn't slow roll me. I secretly enjoy that sort of thing!

Precisely, you block EVERYTHING. Defo would have done the old, "Not sure I'm ever good here but can't fold" chatbox-tank thing if you were streaming.
Yesterday's 'possibly career-defining' work meeting went swimmingly, despite the hangover. A company that I sometimes do consultancy/writing/teaching work for think that they want to take me on on a permanent basis and I think that what they are thinking suits me. The work they do is ridiculously interesting, socially benign, sensationally well paid and some other words.
Perhaps it will work out. Perhaps if it does work out I'll get a flat. Perhaps if I get a flat I'll get laid. Imagine that: getting a flat AND getting laid, I wouldn't know what to do with myself. Perhaps I should just stick to getting wrecked then getting binned, I might end up missing it too much. Let's see, shall we.
Poker has been enjoyable over the last few days and the bankroll has crept up a little since yesterday. I'm now able to mix in a few tables of 30nl. Can I get to 50nl by the end of the month? Almost certainly not but I'll give it a go.
Couple of interesting hands from yesterday. I thought I played the first one well - 98% on the flop and all that jazz. The second one I JUST DIDN'T KNOW what to do and so called. I always just call when I don't know what to do - say what you like about the tenets of just calling when you don't know what to do, at least it's an ethos.

@SR23

Seems excessive. Slow down fella.

Ha, that's brutal. I bet he never expected to get there that way.
"6 or J please. OK, running 10's will do".
Hope you get the job.
And thanks.
