The 3 Covid rules that could be rolled out next week - UK cases soar
Hospitality check in's From this Wednesday (December 15) anyone who wishes to enter a number of indoor venues - such as nightclubs - will need an NHS Covid Pass to do so.
Currently, this rule does not apply to pubs or restaurants but they could soon become the next businesses to be targeted by the Government.
At the start of 2020 this measure was in place but was later abandoned, in part because of the 'pingdemic' - which led to thousands of customers and staff having to self-isolate.
When August arrived the rule was altered so that anyone who was fully vaccinated no longer had to self-isolate if they were tagged by the app.
The Government instead encouraged people who came into close contact with a positive Covid case to take a PCR test.
Face masks in all indoor spaces Mr Johnson tightened the rule with regards to wearing face masks in indoor spaces earlier this week.
People are now required to wear face coverings in most indoor spaces, but some are still exempt.
For example, it is not mandatory for you to wear a face mask whilst in hospitality settings, gyms or leisure centres.
Were the Government to look to reinforce this rule these areas could come under threat.
Stricter isolation rules As previously mentioned, rules around isolation periods were eased during the summer, which meant that those who were double-vaccinated no longer had to stay at home for 10 days, if they came into contact with an infected person.
This rule was tweaked slightly after the Omicron variant emerged last month so that anyone who came into contact with a suspected case of the variant had to self-isolate.
However, the Government re-worded the measure again on Wednesday when they announced that people could avoid this so long as they take daily tests.
Were the mandatory 10-day isolation rule to be reintroduced by Downing Street it's not likely to be met with great public reception.
Covid restrictions across the UK are being strengthened as daily case numbers rise once more.
Some 58,194 new Covid cases were reported by the UK yesterday - the highest daily increase since January 9 this year.
Moreover, 448 new cases of the Omicron variant were announced within the British Isles, yesterday, taking the total overall to 1,265 - as of Friday, December 10.
Omicron cases are currently being detected the most in London and the East Midlands.

Boris's 'million jabs a day' drive in chaos on first day: Jab centres warn stocks are ALREADY low, two-hour queues form outside walk-ins and fuming GPs say they were only told plans last night - as now Government RUNS OUT of crucial lateral flow tests
Boris Johnson has today come under fire for his Omicron-fighting pledge to dish out a million Covid booster jabs a day, with senior Tories questioning why the Government didn't kick off the operation months earlier. NHS bosses have also warned that scaling up the programme now will be 'incredibly difficult' and have 'consequences', with patients facing once again facing having routine operations cancelled. In a massively ambitious move last night, the Prime Minister brought forward the deadline to offer all adults a third jab by New Year's Day. The Army and thousands of extra volunteers will be drafted in to achieve the target, and clinic hours extended to help dish out up to 20million jabs over the next two-and-a-half weeks.
Jab chaos saw 4.4m attempts to book a slot but just 545,000 get one: GPs say they are ALREADY out of vaccines and have been given until just 9AM today to order enough to meet Boris's Dec31 deadline as '200,000 get Omicron in a day'
The Prime Minister pledged on Sunday night to offer all eligible adults in Britain a booster jab by the end of the year. That would involve more than a million people every day getting jabbed for the next two weeks but a senior NHS source broke ranks tonight to warn even hitting that daily number by Christmas would be tough, let alone maintaining the level through December. Mr Johnson last night issued a new rallying cry for tens of thousands of people to volunteer to help the rollout hit its 'ambitious' targets.
Boris faces 70-strong Tory revolt over 'Nazi-style' vaccine passports: Furious MPs brand Plan B Covid curbs a 'softening up exercise' for full lockdown - with claims ministers are ALREADY preparing to limit numbers in bars at New Year
Scores of Conservatives have vowed to defy the government whip when new regulations rubber-stamping Covid passes for nightclubs and major events, mandatory vaccination for health staff, and mask use come before the Commons. Dominic Raab risked inflaming the tensions in interviews this morning as he dismissed 'overstated' criticism about the measures to combat the Omicron strain. He dismissed backbencher Marcus Fysh's comparison between Covid passes and the oppressive Hitler regime as 'crass' and 'inappropriate'. But the scale of the rebellion means the embattled PM will almost certainly have to rely on Labour to get the measures through - despite in theory having an 80-strong Commons majority. Several ministerial aides are threatening to quit rather than back the government. Tories are also gearing up for an even bigger battle amid claims ministers are preparing to go further by shutting hospitality within weeks if the Omicron strain continues to run rampant.
Did Britain's 'first Omicron death' die FROM the Covid variant or WITH it? Professor slams government's 'lack of transparency' and says No10 is causing 'unnecessary alarm' - adding: 'The patient could have been hit by a bus'
A lack of transparency over the UK's first Omicron death prompted fury yesterday, as professor of medicine and consultant oncologist Karol Sikora (top right) told the Government to release more details to stop 'unnecessary alarm'. Boris Johnson revealed the UK's first death due to Omicron on a visit to a vaccination clinic in Paddington, west London (left), but did not reveal the age of the person who died or if they had underlying health conditions, which made them vulnerable, or whether Omicron was the leading cause of their death or a secondary factor. Experts are now demanding answers about the fatality, such as the individual's vaccination status and if they were part of group vulnerable to Covid. Professor Sikora said the Government should release more details about the death to put people's minds at ease and said: 'We're not being given proper information.' He said his suspicion was that the silence regarding whether the person was vaccinated or not indicated to him that the person died of another cause while they had Omicron.
Brits will need three jabs for a vaccine passport: Javid says booster shots will be needed for passes once Brits have had a 'reasonable chance' to get them
People may need three jabs to use controversial Covid passports for entry to large venues by January, the Health Secretary warned last night. Sajid Javid told the Commons that people will only be considered 'fully vaccinated' once they have had their booster, and that three doses will be required for vaccine passports once all eligible adults in England have had 'a reasonable chance' to get another jab. But he refused to indicate when this would come into effect, as confusion mounts over whether the Prime Minister's promise in his TV address on Sunday means everybody will have had their booster by December 31 or will just be offered a third dose by then. The Health Secretary also pointed out that the incoming rules on Covid passes meant that from Wednesday people will need to show a negative lateral flow test to go to nightclubs or large events. Mr Javid's extraordinary statement comes amid murmurings of a large Tory rebellion to Boris Johnson's so-called 'Plan B' restrictions, which include the passports as well as orders to work from home and compulsory facemasks for further public spaces. The push for all over-18s to have a booster - which will need more than a million jabs given out each day until the end of the year (top right) - saw big queues outside
