What happens if he doesn't actually resign?

I'd love it if he came out of Number 10 dressed as a clown :D

Everyone knows he is a clown, so he doesnt need to dress up as one.

8 hour time difference here, so it's 0715 here & I've just woken up to the news.

Bit sad I missed the final moments, but it's wonderful news to wake up to.

A slight tangent here, but I see Chris Philip was amongst the resignations.

He was responsible for delivering the (dreaded?) Gambling Review White Paper which has been due in "a few weeks" for many months now.

I don't have much - any? - knowledge of how these things work in a power vacuum, but I'm guessing we shall see a further delay to it's publication?

    Any views @Essexphil @HAYSIE @AnyoneElse?

I havent been watching today, beyond the Boris resignation that is, so I am not up to date on whats happening.
Although I would think that all those that have resigned will have to be got back, or replaced.
He works for Nadine Dorries who is still there.
So it will be her responsibility.
It wouldnt surprise me if what has happened is an excuse for delays to all sorts of stuff.

One bit of that article that leapt out at me was this:-

"The Racing Post understands that a proposal contained in the white paper places the threshold for enhanced checks at a net loss of £2,000 over a 90-day period.

However, the Gambling Commission has already been accused of ramping up intrusive affordability checks for punters without having the necessary mandate."

Net loss of £2,000 in 90 days. Bit different from checks before placing a bet for £5.00

I've mentioned this before in a different thread, but it bears repeating.

Every election in living memory, the Right Wing Press have had just 2 verdicts about Labour (with the exception of 1 Blair election). Either:-

    1. The Labour Leader is a dangerous loony (for example Corbyn, Kinnock, Foot, etc); or
    2. If you vote for that normal-looking Labour leader, there is going to be some form of Stalinist Putsch, whereby the secret Red nobody voted for will come to power

Times the Labour leadership has changed during a period in power? 2. That would be the open secret of Blair-Brown, and Wilson stepping down for Callaghan when diagnosed with dementia.

Whereas, for the 3rd General Election in a row, the Conservatives have got people to vote for 1 person and, within 3 years, replaced them-without an election.

    That is Cameron- in 2015 election (gone 2016);
    May- 2017 election, (gone 2019)
    Johnson- 2019 election (gone 2022)

If Governments choose to replace a leader, then they should ordinarily choose to have a General Election

Do you think it would suit Labour to have a snap election?
Why do you think Keir Starmer doesnt seem to be cutting through with the public?
Do you think he has made the correct decision regarding Brexit?
    Taking those in turn:-

    1. It wouldn't be a snap election. Going to take c.3 months to get a new leader in place-meanwhile (of course) we will have a rudderless ship
    2. No idea. He lacks charisma-when was the last time a FTSE-100 CEO was passed over due to lack of charisma? He is everything Boris isn't-but that can be perceived as a bad thing
    3. Never an easy call. For me, no. I believe the best course for Labour would be to propose staying out of the EU, but seeking to agree terms upon which we could all join the Single Market (not just NI). Would need careful planning
    1. What about if Labour call for a confidence vote in the House of Commons, and win it, as they are threatening to do?

I have it on good authority Boris is offering new ministerial posts on a zero hours contract.

He is going to have to persuade many of those that have resigned to take their jobs back.
Many will agree to do exactly that, provided it is agreed that he should be interim leader, rather than Raab.

Suspect Gove won't be there ;)
Defenders of Boris, almost to a man, will say that he got all the big calls correct, but f..k.d up the day to day running of the government completely.
Lets just accept for a minute that this is true.
The Tories plan is that for the next 2 or 3 months, we have to accept Boris being allowed to continue.
He will not be permitted to make any big calls, and only be responsible for the day to day running of the government.
    This sounds very sensible?
