Mrs Bean's family live in the Farage constituency. He has a good chance there from what I've seen of the locals.
Farage will dilute the Tory vote for sure. There's no way they stay in power now.
Clacton is not like nearly all the other seats.
I recall several previous Elections. Where the only possible winner was Conservative. so people like me were free to vote for whoever they preferred.
There was 1 previous Election where there was a genuine option (like now) between Conservatives and UKIP (now Tory/Reform).
I voted Conservative. Not because I wanted to. Because I preferred it to the alternative. And Carswell was an honourable man.
Farage will just be Farage. It will be all about him. All about blue sky thinking. And absolutely zero about the voters in the seat.
Whereas the Tory, Watling, is a decent man. Who has lived in the Constituency for Decades. Who, for example, has popped in to my former village pub from time to time for years. And just been 1 of the locals. Caring about everyone-not just Tories.
Whereas Farage has already gone on record as saying he could think of few things worse than him spending the next 5 Summers in Clacton. Something I agree with.
Farage is the ultimate snake oil salesman. But sometimes his facts have some truth in them.
Let's take his current pronouncement about reducing net migration to zero.
It would be simple to say that that is complete nonsense. As net migration to a developed country is nearly always a considerable net plus. Not because of boat people. Because we pinch professional people such as Doctors and Nurses from poor countries.
But let's look at the Short Term for a minute. Is it really so ridiculous to suggest that Net Migration should not be zero for the next 3 years?
There has been a massive spike in people coming into this country legally. An unprecedented spike. We have over a million coming here on study visas over the last 3 years. Double that in any other period in UK history. And most of those visas last for 3 years or less
All the fuss being made about Dependants accompanying people coming in on Study Visas? Look at the actual figures. The number was tiny until about 3 years ago. Then there was a massive spike in numbers. And that loophole has been closed.
There are about 1.2 million people coming in every year. Yet only about 500,000 leaving. People focus too much on the 1.2 million coming in. And far too much on the 70,000 or so coming in by small boat.
Whereas that 500,000 emigrating should be going up quickly over the next 3 years. As Foreign Students leave. Taking families with them. As gaps in the job market remain-but do not increase.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has been doused in milkshake while visiting Clacton-on-Sea after announcing his bid to run as an MP for the Essex constituency.
It mirrored a similar incident in Newcastle in 2019, where a milkshake was also thrown at him while he was out campaigning.
The new leader of Reform had arrived to chants of "Nigel" in the seaside town, but had to be rushed back onto a bus by aides following the incident.
Richard Tice, Nigel Farage’s predecessor as Reform UK leader, said: “The juvenile moron who threw a drink over Nigel has just gained us hundreds of thousands more votes.
“We will not be bullied or threatened off the campaign trail.”
Prior to his Clacton visit, Farage said he would be a “**** nuisance” in Westminster if elected.
In his first major public speech since announcing his candidacy he addressed a crowd of hundreds at Clacton Pier.
Farage suggested that a chunk of Conservative voters could join his party and hit out at their handling of Brexit.
Shouts from the crowd included “get ’em Nige” and “we love you Nigel”.
He told those gathered: “Send me to Parliament to be a **** nuisance.”
Well that was a waste of an hour, Sunak interrupting and talking over everyone acting like a spoilt teenager, Starmer saying he's got plans for everything but not revealing them but we learnt that he did run the CPS and his dad was a toolmaker & a useless weak host who was out of her depth.
At least this bit made me laugh
The audience laughs at Rishi Sunak when he says NHS waiting times are "coming down from when they were higher"
Sunak ‘beats’ Starmer in ITV election debate by narrowest margin, snap poll claims The prime minister and Labour leader clashed on the NHS, tax rises and immigration in testy exchanges.
well i watched the news, seems the pm told 12 lies and labour are overly concerned with smalls boats and a few thousand people......... also think its really poor that the debate was just the two of them.......woulda been nice to see the lib dem leader and the others who are running....... almost like we are forced to pick a side red or blue...... i just like greens!
I been hearing everywhere that sunuk absolutely and totally anniliated and destroyed Starmer in the debate. I mean Starmer is the better choice but Sunuk is better at spin and debates, its sad but true but it looking very likely we get a tory government again now.
