Just wanted to post this hand, i tend to run into these situations a fair amount and wanted some opinions of whether this is a fundamental flaw in my cashgame play that will cost me money long term or is ok.
Villain is quite active, 3bets alot with quite a wide range and is also a good winning reg.
Basically is it ok to flat the 3bet? or is that terrible should i 4bet or fold?.. then when i flop quite big is flatting ok again or should i be turning my hand into a semi bluff with the idea of happily getting it in? when he leads out the turn i obviously decide he is actually sitting with a big holding this time as i think he would slow down with the lower end of his 3bet range so i dont think i need to slowplay just raise to get it in.
The J9 hand i remember catching the end of that after a hand on another table. This particular opponent is one of the more interesting ones at this level. I play pre and flop the same.
Turn i think is where the desision is. Be rather keen to see other peoples thoughts on this.
Thanks for the input don, i'm guessing you prefer a flat on the turn so as not to make it so obvious we have a massive hand i think my level of thinking was pretty basic in terms of deciding to raise the turn, on this occasion it paid off but against different more nittier opponents it would probably be a mistake. I'm actively looking to improve my cash game and thats why i chose to post this hand as i felt it had a few key parts that if i am not results oriented may highlight a few flaws in my game.
I see positives is both arguements ben. I can see why a raise is good, i can also see why calling is good. I dont know what is right which is why i dodged the question.
regading the cash hand depending on your opponent I either call or 4bet don`t think I ever fold to a 3bet this deep with a hand like j9cc.
I think i play the flop the same sometimes will c/r vs certain opponents, the turn im defo raising to build the pot since we are deep I want all the opponents money in the now.
another reason is if you flat call you are 1st to act on river what do you? if you bet out after opponent showing strength throughout the hand just looks super strong imo and also you don`t think you get opponents stack on river either because you would need to overbet the pot which looks even stronger.
and if you check river opponent may check back or if they go for for small value you c/r if they are decent they will be able to get away from their overpair and again you won`t get max value.
so really what i`m saying you played the hand spot on lol.
"another reason is if you flat call you are 1st to act on river what do you? if you bet out after opponent showing strength throughout the hand just looks super strong imo and also you don`t think you get opponents stack on river either because you would need to overbet the pot which looks even stronger".
Yeah this makes alot of sense i guess if another club comes or 1 to a straight i then probably lead out to squeeze some value knowing he will check back alot of his range and he can get away from his Qs as that would look super strong. Thanks for clearing some things up for me.
Donttelmum i'm sure it will be spewed off in a matter of hours when i'm next sat down at the tables, just do me a favour and sit to my right next time we play lol
Had a long slog tonight which was pretty average, Although after getting onto customer care for the third time today i was finally put into the ukops 1 semi final i won a micro sattelite into and managed to take down a seat. It was pretty tight towards the bubble top 7 won a seat and 8th got £66 so as soon as 8 were left i just took advantage of the tablees tightness 4 handed jamming most hands which ensured i built a big enough stack to win a ticket. So i'm really looking foward to playing that on thursday from a £5.20 initial investment.
MTT: i spent £11 on the £2.20 rebuy which is ridiculous lol i won't be doing that on a consistent basis. The i regged the £33 main and £5.50 mini and busted early in the main, opened kqss in sb against bb in unopened pot he flats, flop comes As Q 10s i lead out he calls, turn is another Q i decide to get bit deceptive and check oppo bets i raise to get it in he instajams and turns over q10, fully expecting the js to complete a royal i headed out of that when a blank came on the river. The proceeded to just stack off light in mini not wanting to slog it out for hours. So spent near £50 on mtts today, maybe i will limit myself to 1 or 2 mains a week so as not to start spending too much playing them. Cash: Only played 20nl HU tonight and it went very well, ended up +£45-£50 not sure of exact figures but my broll is only down about a pound so must of been decent amount to make up for the mtts outlay. I feel like i have an edge against most opponents i face which means rake doesn't eat up my profit too much, although may just be running well. Also played PLO 4nl for about half hour and lost £3 was up to £14 early but obviously was never going to nit up when im playing plo and quickly lost most of it calling off with draws and not getting there.
Think i'm going to take it easy for a couple of days maybe play the odd bit of hu cash, looking foward to playing the 20k ukops on thursday only the 3rd time i have played such a big buy in tournament and with the added bonus of getting in for a fiver i wont be worried about nitting up or playing a different style because it's such a big buy in.
Yesterday was a mixed day i didn't play much at all earlier in the evening but managed to drop 3 buy ins at nl20 hu cash trying to play like a hero too much. Maybe as i didn't plan on playing long i just went crazy and messed around too much but yeah i will post the two hands that show me up the most in a minute.
In the evening i played a couple of bounty hunters with no joy, however i managed to take down a £2.20 ukops1 direct satellite and having already won my seat last night i got the £110 buy in which was a nice bonus. Then i spent a couple of hours late evening playing nl10 mastercash as a friend was sat down and the game always turns into a bit of fun with alot of 3betting, showing bluffs and alot of polarizing river overbets lol hopefully a few of the players have notes on me being a maniac now.
Being a regular reader of Dohhhs diary i always find it interesting to see some of his hands for the night so i thought i'd go for something a bit similar, might be a bit more interesting than me just pretending to know what polarizing and 3betting means.

This was against my mate, if i was playing a proper session and not having a bit of fun i obviously wouldnt be showing and stuff..
Great bink winning the £110 seat (the cash for it) from £2!
I really need to get back on the wagon with the TSP sats, but been grinding cash so much and just keep forgetting.
EDIT: Just looked, why is there not a single TSP sat in the lobby all day today?? Do they not do the micros + Semis everyday or do they only run on the Sunday of the big game?

Thanks Paul would of been nicer if i hadn't squandered so much earlier on playing stupid, i think the tsp sats only run on sundays as i played a few smaller buy in sats to that but had no luck, would love to have a crack at that maybe if i can do ok in one of the ukops events. I think at the moment they are only running ukops1 sats everyday, you planning on giving any of the ukops events ago?
Tbh, I usually just don't even bother looking at UKOPS details cos I aint usually rolled for them and I'm usually lazy when it comes to sats but might give it a go this time round. I don't even knoe when it is...
The tsp is £60 isn't it so i guess if you have a good day on the nl30 could buy in direct, the ukops starts thursday untill monday the micro and semi i won to get in orginally was very soft so for a £5.20 investement i reckon you would have a great chance of getting in. Nice work on climbing up to nl30 and holding your own, definetly gonna come and get involved for a one off session soon, how comes no forum cash games run these days i'm sure when i first started reading the forum a few people played the odd evening for a bit of fun.
Thanks Ben. Judging by some of your hands above, at least you'd get me thinking at the tables.
Yeah there used to be forum 4NL cash games all the time, and forum SnGs but there hasn't been for ages, dunno why. The best way is just post a new thread and ask if anyone wants to play, should get some action.
Nothing much to report from yesterday played a few mtts in the evening with no joy. I thought i would post as a couple of situations came up which i was unsure about in the main and the mini and am interested in some thoughts.
Tonight i plan on playing the 3 ukops event and maybe some mastercash.
Right so this hand is from the £5.50 mini rebuy, now i'm not sure what to make of his flat pre im fairly readless not been at the table long , i would imagine aload of suited As and bigger As are well within his flatting range pre. However obviously loads of smaller pairs and k10,kj,kq, are also well within his range. Is it standard to cbet to commit ourselves to call off here, i assumed check folding is way to passive and weak if i'm going to play the 10s like i have pre? is it just a cooler or would a more experience mtt player get away from this?

Now this one i felt he didn't have kq beat after limping utg pre and felt 4 was very unlikely except for a4 or 45s but i felt like he would of got a bit more agressive on the flop or turn with these hands. Obviously he turns up with the runner flush but should i be slowing down at any point here? or is it just a cooler situation that he hits the flush?
Didn't have any luck in anything last night got into the exact same situation in the mini with 10s 3betting pre and a player flatting pre and then leading out pot on a K high board, of course i level myself and jam and they flip the K. Main was going well felt like i had a very good table and was gradually building my stack picking some good spots to pick up pots whilst being pretty card-dead then i had a bad hand with AA bvb and although i managed to avoid losing my stack i think i lost my cool a little bit after playing so patiently and made a stupid jam over a 3bet with aqs not long after and i was done. I managed a small cash in the 5.75 bh later on in the night, was onto run deep but then i got it in with top two against a turned straight so nout that i could really do about that.
Not playing any events tonight as i promised my gf a poker free night as she is going home for easter 2mo which no doubt means my life will be working most of the day on dissertation and other work and grinding in the evening, really enjoying playing 6max at the moment whilst not really playing much HU. I want to start grinding 20nl a bit more and see if i'm actually good enough to make some money at that level so maybe i will start putting some hours in 3-4 tabling and see how i do.
Heres the hand that led to me being stupid and going out of the mian, i know it's standard in mtts to have hands like this but having been so patient and feeling confident it just crushed me to finally pick up my hand bvb when i had been picking his his bb alot, so it felt like a good spot to accumulate some chips.. question is can i ever fold the river? he was tight and hadn't messed around alot, i didn't feel great about it so maybe could of folded. The same guy then picks up QQ when i open AQS and 3bets for the first time all game, i know i'm beat but i just couldn't help myself i jam it in and see the bad news of course, wish i could of just picked up some junk hands for a bit and recomposed but it wasn't to be. Still plenty of events to try and get into and get a nice cash.
Ukops: So yesterday i managed to work my way through the micro and semi satellites to the main event again, however it was another rather frustrating experience, i felt i was playing good gradually building a stack at a very strange table with lots of limps and everyone seeing flops. Anyway after getting to about 6k and being just above average i managed to get KK against the table bigstacks AJ all in pre and he hit the A so that was that. I will not be playing many mtts for the near future so i don't have to commit a number of hours to playing if something else comes up or i'm not feeling it.
Cash: So today i decided to withdraw down to exactly £1000 and have a proper go at cash for the near future. I will be concentrating on 20nl and playing a max of 4 tables at a time, as that is all my laptop can handle without any bad overlap and plus although i have multitabled HU, multitabling cash is a different proposition and i think 4 is my absolute limit for the moment. I did think about starting out at 10nl as although i have played a fair amount of cash i have never decided to properly grind and take it seriously as a way of building profit, however having played 20nl quite a few times i feel confident enough to have a go at it first knowing that if i have a big downswing i can go down to 10nl or back to HU.
No real targets at the moment just to try and turn a profit over the next month at 20nl and prove to myself that i can hold my own playing cash.
First update: So i started at 17.50 straight into 4 tabling for 1 hour and 30 minutes. I felt like i played quite wel, was very confident from the outset and also picked up some nice hands. The loss i stacked off with Ks against As on a low flop, which i may have been able to avoid although the opponent could of easly turned up with a worse overpair to the board so not too concerned. Will post a couple of the big hands in a minute.
This hand in the past i may have been tempted to check the river, so i was very happy to go ahead with the value bet and get paid off by one of the two exact hands i was hoping for, kq or qj obviously k10 was the other worry but i felt he would likely lead the river with that hand so decided there was value to be had.

This hand was my only loss of +10, the opponent had not been very active so i decided to see a flop and re-evaluate, but as soon as the flop fell i didnt feel in the mood to make any kind of hero fold and decided to get it in and hope that they turned up with 10s+.
Decided to play another small session between between 9.20 and 10.30. Two of the tables i had the same very good reg to my left which was a test. The session was pretty standard with no really tough spots and lots of very small pots, except one which was the difference between a winning and losing session, i flopped an open ender then turned a flush draw all the chips went in and i busted my oppos overpair by hitting the river straight.
I played 3 ukops ME all in sats for £7.20, wasn't planning to but just cudn't resist the chance to try and get in cheap after earlier profit.

So overall for today i managed an £80 profit including the money spent on sattelites which is very nice, although the first session was a bit of a heater so don't expect to turn this kind of profit on a regular basis. I'm happy to have made 4buy ins which means when i next 4 table unless im buying in for 200b on mastercash ill be playing with pure profit. Might squeeze another hour in later if i don't feel too tired.
With the second hand, I don't like the opponents raise on the river, your check looks so strong, given the action before, and when you shove, it's a tough fold, but it's hard to see how he could be good there. I would have checked the river to avoid being re-raised, it is such a wet board! Nice Hand
Just wondering if you would like a £1, heads up turbo game some time

Basically is it ok to flat the 3bet? or is that terrible should i 4bet or fold?.. then when i flop quite big is flatting ok again or should i be turning my hand into a semi bluff with the idea of happily getting it in? when he leads out the turn i obviously decide he is actually sitting with a big holding this time as i think he would slow down with the lower end of his 3bet range so i dont think i need to slowplay just raise to get it in.

Very nice profit indeed!
