It turns out I'm still excluded from aspers casino and will be forever. I had no problem setting up an account with the casino but when I asked for chips at the cashier using my card they discovered I had a previous account and was told to leave immediately.

I did play some cash poker at grosvenor casino today but they only had 1 table going the full time and it rarely even managed to get more than 6 players which in my eye means it's just not worth the travel. I'm probably not gonna bother joining genting casino either because their cash tables don't actually start until 7pm which is a bit too late considering I need to travel back via bus.

Casinos will be very strict with checking for banned players. They have to be like that because a lot of the banned players that turn up at the casino will be self excluded players with gambling problems trying to play.

I know your situation is different to that, but they will do the same checks and it'll come up on their system that you're banned.

Have you tried sending an apology, basically say "This is what happened, this is why it happened, this is what I have done to make sure it won't happen again, are you willing to give me a second chance?"

Could send them a DM on Twitter (https://twitter.com/AspersNewcastle?lang=en) and try your luck, although I recommend something more formal, like a letter. The worst they can do is tell you to go away, so it's basically a freeroll.

Can you get a taxi? At every casino I've been to, you just ask reception to call a taxi when you're ready to leave, and they sort everything out for you.

If you're taking it seriously and trying to maximise your hourly win rates and all that stuff, it's not worth it when taxi fare will wipe out a lot of your profit. But for a bit of fun occasionally, it's well worth paying a few quid for a taxi home IMO.

As EP says certainly wouldn't hurt to send a letter.

Whilst the below reason was different for him being banned, still worth a look.

It was interesting what I read their, my incident might have been different but I do notice a few similarities, I probably wouldn't have even reacted as I did if I was allowed to explain my reason for throwing 1 chip but no they demanded me to leave and I started to panic and did those stupid things.

It was after past midnight that day and I was worried I'll be stuck in newcastle, I didn't realize the casino will order a taxi for me otherwise I'd have left the casino got into a taxi when it arrived and gone home.

I've learned alot more from those two times at manchester SPT than what I learned from my visits at aspers casino and I know for certain nothing like what happened that day will ever happen again.
I'm typing a letter today and will post it tomorrow, hopefully they will reply back this time because I've never recieved a reply back from previous letters I sent.

Maybe ask your carer to write something on your behalf too, Craig?

Was nice to meet you last night. FYI Friday evening and Wednesday evening are usually busier for cash at the G. Saturday should pick up once the new MTT schedule starts next week as people will bust that and sit downstairs! Good luck with the letter.

Not being remotely condescending, but if you feel like the letter could do with a once over to check for clarity/other stuff, then I'd be happy to take a look.

Not to worry though if it's too personal, impractical, doesn't need it, or whatever and best of luck.

Thanks SR13 for doing that it would be really helpful

    Here is the letter itself

    Dear David Tait
I send my full apology for the incident that happened at aspers casino in August 2015.
What happened was I allowed the other players to wind me up too easily, by doing that I got very angry and threw 1 chip from an opponents chip stack. When the casino staff came over asking me to leave I wanted to have a quick talk explaining why I did what I did and that I had issues getting home having missed the last bus. Requesting me to leave in the way they did made me start to panic and I reacted in a bad way throwing my chips all over before getting held down. My general life at this moment in time was a stressful one, I felt very stressed out with family issues going on at the time, I was on a massive downswing playing online poker and I was feeling very heavily mistreated by a support worker.

This incident was a one off and will never happen again. I know for sure the last bus for available for Spennymoor leaves Newcastle at 23:13 so I will be aim to leave Aspers casino at 22:45. I’ve learned from my sky poker tours at Manchester 365 casino that I can ask the casino to order a taxi for me if needed so if I do happen to miss the last bus back home I’ll ask for a taxi to be ordered and wait down stairs for it to arrive.

I didn’t know the casino ban was permanently and when asked to leave I left the casino straight away.

Please could you lift the ban allow me one final chance, that incident was my first incident to have happened at the casino and will be my last one.

I do send my full and sincere apologies to the full casino and promise never to act in the way I did ever again
    Your’s sincerely

I have split your letter up into sections, and given some feedback on each. Changes without an explanation are just general spelling/grammar/syntax things.

Apologies if it's messy - It would be much easier if I could use multiple colours on the forum. It's kinda long too...

Obviously other people like SR23 may have other opinions to me about what you should write, which is fine. I'm not writing this as a final version of what you should send, but more as a starting point for others to add/remove suggestions.

    Dear David Tait,

    Comments:

I suggest mentioning Autism to provide context to the support worker and stress comments in this paragraph. It needs to be clear that stress is in no way related to gambling.

I would be very wary of mentioning an online downswing because that could cause problems with the whole 'Responsible Gambling' side of things - If you've been removed from the casino due to an emotional response that you admit was partly triggered by a downswing, they are going to worry about possibly getting into trouble for letting you back in. I think it's best to just remove that line completely.

I know when the last bus leaves the casino, and I found out from visiting other casinos that I can ask reception to call a taxi if needed, so I don't need to panic about getting home late at night any more.

    Comments:

I have re-written this paragraph. The people in management who will read your letter aren't going to be interested in what time your bus leaves Newcastle.

Again, if your behaviour was linked to Autism, I would add something about that. I do know that one of the things that happens for some people with Autism is that you have routine behaviours that are 'correct', and any deviation from that can be difficult to cope with, especially when something happens and you don't have a plan in advance to deal with that situation. If that is true for you (and I know everyone has different symptoms), then I think you should explain that in the letter.

If your plan that night was "I need to get the bus home" and you didn't have a backup plan, it's completely understandable that you would panic, especially when you're stressed at the other player and you're getting kicked out of the casino, I can imagine that would be overwhelming.

However make sure to remind them that you now know how to deal with similar situations in the future. The most important thing is to convince them that there is little or no risk of repeating any bad behaviour.

I haven't tried to write anything for that though, because that's a personal thing.

Please could you lift the ban allow me one final chance, that incident was my first incident to have happened at the casino and will be my last one. I think you need to say something in this paragraph like "I realise that my behaviour was unacceptable", just to show to the person reading your letter that you take responsibility for that. This is important because it shows them that your apology is sincere and genuine.

Add something about what you've done in the last two and a half years since your ban to show them it won't happen again

I do send my full and sincere apologies to the full casino and promise never to act in the way I did ever again.

I look forward to hearing from you regarding this matter - You can contact me via email [Insert e-mail address] or send a letter to [home address].

(You can give your phone number too, but I highly recommend sticking to written correspondence)

    Yours sincerely,
    Craig Cummins

I have added the bit about returning to the casino here - This is so that it's clear you are talking about your most recent visit, rather than the time you were kicked out.

I think you should also write something about the time you've been banned. For example: "It has been two and a half years since my ban - In that time, I have...

Talk about things that will show improved behaviour, like
    • Anything you have done to help with anger management in that time to prevent similar outbursts in the future
    • State that your life/family/carer situation has improved since your ban (if this is true). Maybe briefly mention any other changes in your personal life that can support this if applicable - Things like if you have got into a long term relationship and/or had children since your ban, or if you have a new carer who you have a really good working relationship with, that could help to show you are in a better situation than before.
    • State that you have not had any behaviour issues at any other casinos since your ban from Aspers. (ONLY if that is true - they can and will check)
    ---

Also, when you send the completed letter (either by post or e-mail), make sure you explicitly give them a way to respond. I have provided an example for the final paragraph, although obvs make sure you don't post your details on the forum. Just make sure to include them in the final version.

Hey Craig - apologies for tardiness, but I went out for lunch shortly after posting on here and have just got in (07:45am). Excellent advice from EvilPingu though, and I'm not sure there's much more I can add. However, if you rewrite the letter with the above changes (which I think you should) and feel like it needs a fresh pair of eyes to look over it, then feel free to PM me - I'm not planning on going out for lunch today. All the best.

The amendments suggested by @EvilPingu are excellent, as are the reasons he gives for omitting some stuff.

Under no circumstances should the letter make ANY mention of an "online downswing", and the time of the last bus etc is completely irrelevant & should not be mentioned, all as The Pingu suggested.

PS - Pingu is a good guy. Ditto @SR23

I'm banned from Grosvenor too. I think they're pretty liberal with the ban hammer. I actually had no idea I was banned either. Turned up at Unibet London to sign up for tournament and they said 'you're banned!'.

I've not tried to get back in yet but by the sounds of it, it's not all that easy.

    thanks for all your help.

I've removed that downswing and put in details of how autism affected me at the time and how different I am now

    Dear David Tait
I send my full apology for the incident that happened at Aspers Casino Newcastle in August 2015.

What happened was I allowed the other players to wind me up too easily, as a result I got very angry and threw one chip from an opponent’s chip stack. When the casino staff came over asking me to leave I wanted to have a quick talk explaining why I did what I did and that I had issues getting home having missed the last bus. Requesting me to leave in the way they did made me start to panic and I reacted in a bad way throwing my chips all over before getting held down. My general life at this moment in time was a stressful one, I felt very stressed out with family issues going on at the time and I was feeling very heavily mistreated by a support worker.

The reason for a support worker is I’ve got autism, this condition means I’ll worry more than I should about a negative situation over time these things build up in my mind making me extremely distressed and very emotional.

This incident was a one off and will never happen again, I know when the last bus leaves the casino, and I found out from visiting other casinos that I can ask reception to call a taxi if needed, so I don't need to panic about getting home late at night any more.

The things with Autism is it makes me do routine behaviours, my casino routine was to play until the cash tables finish and then go to Eldon Square for the next bus available, getting asked to leave as very unexpected and I felt lost knowing It was ages until the next bus was available for Spennymoor it very difficult don’t have an easy time when a sudden and unexpected change happens became very confused and worried making an already stressful night turn overwhelming.

When I came into the casino 24/02/2018 but I didn’t know the casino ban was permanent, nobody stopped me walking in on 19/02/2018 and was allowed to play cash on 22/02/2018. When asked to leave I left the casino straight away.
It’s been two and a half years since the ban was put in place, please could you lift the ban allow me one final chance, that incident was my first incident to have happened at the casino and I promise it will be my last one. It was really stupid of me to act in the way I did. I shouldn’t act in the way I acted that day, if someone is annoying me at the table I should ignore him, if he becomes too serious then I ask the manager to get him to stop or leave the casino right away.

I have new support worker who comes to see me occasionally and this support worker helps me feel a lot happier than the previous one. A psychologist has also explained to me how thinking negative makes me even more negative and stressful so now I try to keep my life positive. If my life in general ever does feel as bad as it was back then I’ll remain away from the casino until it’s over but that’s unlikely to happen now that I view my life positively. I’ll use a CD player and/or mobile phone games to help me keep distracted from any player who might start to question my play.
I do send my full and sincere apologies to the full casino and promise never to act in the way I did ever again.
I look forward to hearing from you regarding this matter.

    Hi Craig,

Just an observation. I would take out the highlighted bit. There may, or may not be a detailed record of the incident, but I just think this raises an unnecessary red flag to the reader very early in your letter.

I'm sure others more qualified than me can help you emphasise a little more, the progress you have made in dealing with your autism.

    Good luck with your appeal,

    Ed.
