There's been at least two occasions where AP should've won Sports Personality of The Year before, benny, but it's never gonna happen is it? I actually thought he would never win the National either with the luck he's had in the race! Fair play to him, though, he derserves it!

More than 12 years after the disappearance of his American wife, poker champion Marcus Bebb-Jones is a step closer to being extradited to the US to face a trial for her murder.
The final of the Stan James 'Blue Riband' (9.45) at Hall Green is the venue, for Mark Wallis's 'Eye Onthe Storm' to confirm why he is this years Derby favourite .. Although there is no such thing as a certainty in any form of racing, this fellow has the hall mark of a true champion, who may well go down into the history of folk law greyhound legends..
Mark has been quoted as saying, 'this is the best dog he has ever trained', and that's coming from the master of 'Imperial Kennels' who trained the winner of the 2009 Derby,'Kinda Easy' ....
It's fair to say, there are others in this race who can take advantage of any errors the 'fav' could make, and one that could is Richard Yeates's, 'Freedom Emma' who is drawn in her favourite trap 4, and as a middle runner she could avoid any scrimmaging on the inside at the first bend where there are 3 railers ..
It would be great to see my old 'boss' Richard land this race and there's a recorded interview of him at the kennels with Freedom Emma, to be shown on the night before the race with the SKY camera crew. However as Ive said in previous post's here, 'Eye Onthe Storm' is the best dog I have ever seen on the track....
So for me, clutching my ante-post vouchers (3/1) for 'Eye Onthe Storm' to win, and (20/1) 'Freedom Emma' 'e/w' to be in the first four , that's the way i'd like to see the 1st and 2nd ..
Don't forget to watch SkySports TV on Tuesday night, you'll be seeing a true champion in action ..
The God of Irony, Gremlins and Goblins and other nasty little creatures that get in the minds of Poker Players. Sometimes when I'm reading about sport, racing or poker I come across some really entertaining and often true stuff about superstition and the paranormal...... Here a story from an old poker magazine, way back when 'God'was a boy ..... It's not the answer to how the world was formed in this galaxy, but ...... Well here's an extract from a story .....read for yourself ..
Everyone I've talked to in depth about gambling confesses the same secret feelings. This even includes mathematicians who, at weak moments, think something strange might be happening in the universe.
Well, I know what it is!
Yep, after years and years of pondering the inexplicable, I've stumbled upon an answer. There's a reason why gamblers always complain of witnessing the "most incredible thing" or events that are simply "unbelievable."
I have isolated and identified the 'God of Irony!' He alone is responsible for all those "impossible" bad beats. It's his only job and he does it tirelessly. Worst of all he doesn't gamble.
Something about the God of Irony ! Let me tell you something about the God of Irony, so you know what you're up against. This is the guy who waits for you to begin a thought with the words, "Wouldn't it be terrible if" or "Can you imagine how bad I'd feel after winning all this money if…"
You think those thoughts and you're apt to gain the attention of the 'God of Irony'. The most dangerous thoughts are ones like, when you think that and you're in trouble! I mean, am I right or am I right? You've had things like that happen to you a hundred times, haven't you?
Let's say the odds are 200/1 in your favor. Then a dark, desperate idea crosses your mind. You find yourself envisioning a way to lose. The minute the idea strikes you, you're only a 5/1 favourite. That's because there's a good chance the 'God of Irony' will have intercepted your idea and decided to use it.
It can happen on the golf course when you're gambling for cash. You're leading by a stroke on the 18th and your opponent has just chipped a shot that's going to roll 50 feet past the hole.
You're practically spending your money, but then this thought hits you, "I've lost six weeks in a row to this bassa. Every thing's gone wrong. Wouldn't it be ironic if that ball hit the pin and dropped in for a birdie!" Here he comes....Enter the God of Irony. Ping! Plunk! You lose. Hey, you gamblers know what I'm talking about, don't you? The craziest things happen to us all the time.
Truth is, the 'The God of Irony' is a pretty dull fellow. He never has a creative thought of his own. We keep putting stuff in his head. The little sucker knows a good idea when he hears it.
A Merry Mental Attitude. Now, maybe you think I'm being facetious. Is this just mental medicine to help you ease the pain of losing? Many gamblers think they've been singled out by fate as a target for cruel jokes. They feel that they alone in all the universe are being tortured, experimented upon by some unknown force. They scream and cry deep within themselves. The hurt goes on.
I think it's better to believe in the 'God of Irony'. At least you know who the enemy is - a pathetic little being with too much power and not a single worthwhile idea of his own.
So, let's stop feeling miserable when things go bad and start exchanging 'God of Irony' stories.
But if you refuse to believe that there is such a beast, go on thinking those strange thoughts. And when you finally get that pat full house you've been waiting for all week and your mind blurts, "Wouldn't it be terrible if this lost," ? ...don't say I didn't warn you!
Well, Benny, that was pretty easy for Eye Onthe Storm wasn't it! No nonsense and a track record too! Very impressive! And Freedom Emma was unlucky to only be in third! I think she might do very well if they run her in the Derby!
After reading your posts I decided to drop a few quid on the Eye at 12/1 for the Derby. That could look a very big price come the end of May!
Well done, sir, and I'll be keeping an eye on this thread from now on!

Yes Digger Man, VERY Impressive and as you say a new track record !!.... I'm delighted for all the connections of these two, both Mark and my old mate and 'guv' Richard ...
Yes 12/1 is still value, the Derby pays with most firms 1/4 odds e/w first six, so , if your dog makes the final then it's pay day .. I'll be looking again tomorrow at the betting, ive just had a small e/w @ 100/1 Freedom Emma for the Derby ...
But for me the real bet is the one you had, "Eye Onthe Storm" for the 2010 Derby (28th April-30th May) glk us ! benny

Funnily enough, I've had a small e/w pop at Freedom Emma too! Seems to me to be a great value bet considering how close she could've got to "Eye" with a clear run! glk us indeed and thanks for the info! Chris

Here he is, "Eye Onthe Storm" with happy connections after winning the final of the 'Blue Riband' and breaking his own track record for good measure ....
So it's onwards and upwards with the Derby his next destination.. As you now know, I like to keep close to the greyhound world, and popped in to see how things are at my ol mate Richard Yeates kennels, he wasn't there (busy with trials) .. Anyways it seems "Freedom Emma" has come out of her race very well and also looks set to head to Wimbledon and take her chance in the Derby ..
Some brilliant news from my part is, one of my favourite gals when I was connected to the kennel "Rosstemple Dream" (now retired) is having pups, due early in May .. As a racer she was fantastic over a longer distance around 700yds and we had a few nice touches in the betting ring. While around the kennels she was a big softie, however once on the track she took no prisoners as she powered the 5th and 6th bends... So I'm looking forward to seeing her again when the family arrives
So, back to the racing tonight, both Richard and Mark could have winners at Romford, although not good things, maybe worth a small interest .. 50p e/w yankee will do me , Lily Rules 8.01 Malbay Elite 8.17 Directors Wit 8.32 Goldies Destiny 10.40

Results for above ..3rd 3rd 2nd 2nd ..all ran there races, but no sugar puffs for breakfast tomorrow ..back to bread and water ....
Check Calling .. The names have been changed to protect the innocent ... I think ?
"Oh give us a break, not again!" I looked over to the NL holdem cash table and saw it was my ol mate 'Al' he couldn't believe he'd been check raised again .. I was playing in the dealers choice game and thought I'd have a word with him... "Hey 'Al' leave your chips on the table, let someone play over for a while, come with me, I need a word. “What now?” he moaned. “I’m stuck four hundred quid here and this game’s too good to get up from.”
“Yes, now. We need a chat away from the table, and I could do with a smoke”. As we walk outside the casino I tell him, “I know why you’re losing.”
“I know why I’m losing, too,” he insist. “It’s because I keep guessing wrong against Tony and Ed. Everyone else is easy, but they’re trying to run over the game. And I’m not going to let em.”
I provide a sympathetic nod that is partially fake and partially felt. He the say's, “So, I'm trying to make them pay by re-raising them straight back. But I’m getting really unlucky by always bluffing at the wrong times and raising when they have better hands. Things will change. I can feel it.”
Outside, we walk towards the car park the sun is setting, as another jet takes off in the distance from Luton airport .. “What is it you want to tell me ?” 'Al' asks ..
“I'll share a well kept secret with you. First, tell me what bothers you about Tony and Ed.”
“Well, Tony's a good guy, but he just keeps raising so much it’s frustrating. And Ed does the same thing, but always smirking at me as he does it"! “Ed's a really nice bloke once you get to know him,” I correct. “And you don’t have to like him. You just have to keep him from taking your money." "Tell me what really bothers you about playing poker with Tony and Ed,” I ask again.
“Well,” says 'Al', “it makes my head hurt. Every time I think about putting my chips in the pot, I’m secretly looking at them, worried about what they’re going to do. It’s comfortable playing against everyone else, but against those two I feel threatened all the time. They’re always betting and raising. Tony’s the worst. He’s always trying to bully the game, if you know what I mean.”
So, I begin to tell him a powerful truth that will change his poker prospects for the better.
First, you’ve got to identify opponents who habitually use deception, since these are the ones that bother you and interfere with your prospects of making profit from weaker foes. It’s easy to identify them.
They slow play hands that at surprising times. At other times, they bet and keep betting. They raise often and sometimes unexpectedly. They bluff often, along with all those other annoying and aggressive maneuvers. In short, it’s hard for you to determine what they’re doing at any moment.
But, even though they’re hard to figure out, they’re not really playing a profitable game of poker. They suffer from what I call “Fancy Play Malarky” – the habit of trying to find the most creative play instead of the most profitable, more obvious one.
All you know about Tony and Ed is they’re tricky and, on balance, way too aggressive for your taste. Identifying these deceptive players is easy. What to do about them is what might not be obvious, but all I’m asking you to do first is identify them by their traits.
Now that you’ve identified these aggressive-and-deceptive opponents, here’s the simple part of the secret. Whenever you’re faced with this type of opponent, you should bet into them less often and call their bets more often. You should also raise them less often.
The governing logic is that you can make marginal “value bets” against opponents who are timid and who are intimidated by you. Remember, all this super-aggressive betting and raising, when used at the right times, means you’re targeting a few extra quid profit. You’re pushing things to the limit. But all this backfires when your opponents are aggressive and unpredictable. Those are the opponents that you dont want to value bet into and that you dont want to make marginal raises against.
Ok , sometimes you might make a forceful raise just to encourage an opponent to back off and “play nice.” But this doesn’t work often with players like Tony and Ed. It’s especially unlikely to work if they have superior position, not position of button but meaning they are seated close to your left, acting after you most of the time.
And if they’re seated to your left, you should do a lot of checking and calling. That will drive them nuts and completely dismantle their aggressive-and-deceptive tactics.
Checking and calling is especially good if they bluff a lot, just check and call. That way, you’ll get maximum value from their bluff attempts. Betting with marginal hands isn’t good (even though this would be long-range profitable against timid opponents), because they’ll maximize their profit by raising too often when they do have you beat. Additionally, by betting, you give them less opportunity to lose money by making their mistake of bluffing too often.
Another part of the secret is that trying to get even with Tony and Ed is interfering with your strategy against the weaker players, which is where your profit lies. Even if you could fight back to an even footing against them using their own tactics, you will have diminished your profit by neglecting to concentrate on extracting money from the weak, timid opponents. So, let them have the stage. Let them try to destroy you with their too-forceful tactics.
Realize that it’s impossible for them to succeed unless you let them.
“Wow,” say's 'Al'. “That’s the secret. I can destroy Tony and Ed just by calling more and betting less.”
“Yes,” As I say. "You have heard the truth about something that’s bothered you at poker all your life. You understand it completely now. And profit waits back at that poker table".
“But why did we have to come to the car park for you to tell me this?”
“Because, I needed a smoke and it was important enough" !!
