In Response to Re: Is There Money To Be Had? : What were you looking for from this thread? Posted by hhyftrftdr
No, you are right. I found exactly what I was deep-down expecting. A bunch of flaming trolls who can't help but come onto a post to make sarcastic comments. Nothing better to do? How sad.
Anyway. This will my last post on the forum full-stop. I've found from multiple experiences that in the end Poker is about taking people's money, not making friends.
I may not be much good at the former but I won't bother to waste time with the latter. Adios!!
In Response to Re: Is There Money To Be Had? : You know what? I've changed my mind. I hope they do remove the forum. Posted by PkDevil
Not sure what I have said to upset you PK. All I said was that grinding 28p SNGs for a living would be one **** of a challenge (it would be). I have no idea if that is what you play or were proposing or whatever. I sort of assumed it was not and that you were asking your questions in the OP generally.
Certainly no offence meant on my part.
I would say that on an internet forum as in real life you will get a mix of people and responses. Some will agree with you, some will not. Some people will challenge you and some people will not. I wouldn't get bent out of shape over it. It would be a boring world if we all agreed with one another.
GL to you in the future whether you post or not and whether you grind 28p DYM's or $200k buy in live events or more likely somewhere inbetween.

In Response to Re: Is There Money To Be Had? : You like sarcasm. That's good. You won't mind if I repay the favour on any forum posts you make in future then I assume :-) Posted by PkDevil
I don't particularly like or dislike sarcasm. Nothing in my post was intended to be sarcastic.
That said, if you want to make sarcastic comments about any of my forum posts, please do. It's only an internet forum where people can hide behind anonymous screen names. There are infintely more important things in life. It's just bizarre that you ask questions in the OP expecting people to answer them, yet you refuse to answer a simple question yourself.

To be honest it is very hard to take you seriously but a few of us have tried to give advice/contribute to the thread. When you look at the people that have tried to help and they include big winners as full time players and people that play as a sideline and your reaction is somewhat disingenuous when you suggest I was posting as bait.
When you said about full time players playing the micros I have no idea if you mean under £1 buy in (the maths will show there is no way you can make enough to be full time) or £10 av buy in. People will label different stakes differently. I asked you to elaborate but you refused to respond.
You say you "I haven't found an entirely reliable way as of yet to make consistent profit" yet you suggest you play full time. It is the same as a Sunday footballer saying he is a professional footballer.
Poker is a game to win money for some, for enjoyment for others. If you want to make friends I suggest you change your tone when you post.

Shame on you Markycash for causing havoc and mayhem on the forum. You even had the audacity to start a thread about bickering on the forum. My God you have got some front!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a good topic, shame it descended but back OT:
Most people who play poker will have considered this issue - not many play for money without considering the possibilities of.....money. Anyone who says people only play for fun are talking rubbish really - why have money involved if that's true.
When you do well it's obvious you may consider taking it further/more serious of course, it's natural too.
Biggest two problems I can see with the idea of treating it as full time/pro - variance and rake, especially when you're lower stakes. You can be a great player and on a massive, massive downswing in variance. Try telling that to the mortgage providers etc....eek. The part time other income/part time poker sideline is seriously a better option IMO (as some suggest earlier here). There's always other income to fall back on that way, and you can still give it a shot at using poker as income.
Oh wow, how did best thread in ages (aside from WSOP, SPT) deteriorate back to status quo so quickly?
There most certainly is money to be had in poker for a plethora of reasons. One of the primary ones is simply that the majority of people overestimate their own skill. Google 'Dunning-Kruger Effect' - interesting stuff.
Also, in poker there's the readily available scapegoat of variance/luck to blame rather than your own ability, which always makes things fun :P

Great point Angmar.
To really see the Dunning-Kruger effect in action, watch some you tube videos for evidence of delusional 'experts' in a variety of fields or simply tune in to any number of 'talent' shows on the TV.
In fact see the reaction of OP and others when their point of view is challenged, as Jack Nicholson once said ''you can't handle the truth"
I believe much of this stems from our societies reticence to say anything considered 'negative'.
Constantly striving to find 'positives' in everything and everyone does us no favours in the long term, some people just suck at certain things, tell them and let them move on to find something they don't suck at.....except poker players obviously :-)
