On the Quest for the 4-Figure Score

Hi guys,

Genuinely can't remember the last time I sat down to properly work on my game (real life always gets in the way...) so going to be making some posts here to hold myself accountable! And of course for some forum rungoodz!!!!

All thoughts on strategy welcome - always fun to talk about!

I'm a recreational player, and work in the arts. Played a handful of games on Sky before this year but started playing regularly here in January. Really enjoy the community element and also the lack of HUDs, timebanks, etc. Had some nice runs in micro MTTs and have gradually moved up to playing any MTTs running on Sky. Only fire things above 55 if I'm feeling good, and try to balance it by still playing micros so my average buy in doesn't go through the roof! Had a few nice runs so far but the search for the elusive 4-figure score continues!

Will try to update after Sunday sessions whether good or bad. This week will play Super Sunday and probably some small games before then at some point to get 100 points for the freeroll.

Hugely looking forward to Sssssssuper Ssssssssunday and will be playing all the main events - first 3 people to post in this thread other than me can have 1% each of my Super Sunday cashes donated to a charity of their choosing. If 1% is less than £10 (most likely result haha!) then I'll make up the difference to £10 each.

Glgl!

Specific things to work on first of all:
Good players will know I do these things already and be exploiting them already anyway, but somehow writing it down in a public forum gives me more sense of incentive to work on it quickly if that makes sense! :S
    1) 3betting from the blinds - especially SB. In position I 3bet polar but oop my 3bet range is so value heavy! I don't particularly like playing bloated pots oop with marginal hands, but playing against people who do this is really easy I think lol so I need to fix this.
    2) Develop a river check/raising range. Very rarely do this. Checking range on the river is 99% check/folds or check/calls. Again, easy to play against.
    3) SB limping range bvb... Very rarely give walks, but my limps tend to be really capped and I've noticed that some regs auto-raise over limps bvb. Against these guys I've started limping AA bvb too which has been working well so far, but developing a balanced range here is something I need to look at.

The other cool thing about the forum is a lot of verrrrry good players will comment on hands/questions from beginners to try and help, without worrying about 'giving away their edge' or anything like that. Much respect!

I may include a questionable Sunday hand now and again also

    Good luck, will follow.

Am also planning on playing some of the bigger tournaments on Sunday (even though my MTT career makes for grim reading), so perhaps see you out there somewhere.

Tyty yeah freeroll is definitely good value. Sure the Mini will get a pretty big prizepool also!

Ha we shall see! In theory the Main, Mini, £33bh, and Sheriff could have 4figs up top so let's make it a big session!!

Haha amazing - never played it before but as I registered I thought to myself "this is the game that Rainman is always going on about - I wonder if the guy even plays it or it's just some catchphrase..." And lo and behold I get seated next to you! Gg indeed sir! As I said at the time, was like playing with a celebrity.

As I'm newish to Sky, is there some context to this? Was there ever a time when people were frequently mentioning the £2.20@2.15 deepstack?!?!

SR, Kobayashi, Rainman be sure to pick a charity each and we'll see how Super Sunday goes!

Will be Monday before I get around to donating - as stated before I'll give 1% of Sunday's cashes each or £10 each, whichever is bigger

No real sweats to report - currently one-tabling the 8k - in last place of 15 remaining.

Finished the day breakevenish which I'll happily take since I was in for a tonne of buy-ins today!

£10 definitely greater than 1% of cashes haha! Will donate tomorrow - thanks for the links guys - Rainman may I have yours please?

Played a small Sunday sesh with a few runs but nothing major, made about £40 profit in the end which I'll accept over a losing Sunday I guess!

I get a couple of mornings off in the week and since everyone I know is at work at those times, I sometimes play a few MTTs that are running.
Advantages of this are that they're pretty stress-free/relaxed and easily beatable for 100%roi+ and with the small fields it gives you plenty of final table practice.
Disadvantages are that only micros run at that time so end up playing abi3 versus abi20+ on Sundays which skews things somewhat! Also other than final table practice I don't think it improves my game too much as you rarely end up in tough spots as the majority of players play very passively (each to their own, no offence intended). This is nice, but not that good to try and practice/learn new things. Long-term it would probably be better to spend the time running over tough spots and putting in some work to try and get better, but it's more fun to sit down and play some poker :D

Been looking into improving cash games also as in MTTs I'm pretty comfortable with stacks 40bb and below but probably make many more mistakes on deeper stacks. For this reason I tend to late-reg tournaments to avoid the ultra deep stacked phases. Probably missing out on a lot by doing this though so will try practicing at cash games. Never really liked them that much to be honest - always found MTTs more fun!

    Looking forward to UKOPS!
