Brexit is causing 7,000 jobs to move out of London

More than 7,000 jobs are reported to have moved out of London as top firms open European hubs to avoid the damaging effects of Brexit.
Leading consultancy EY has warned that assets worth around £1tn ($1.3tn) are being moved out of the UK capital to new sites elsewhere in the EU ahead of Britain’s planned departure on 29 March.
Major sectors preparing for disruption by shifting their operations include banks, insurers and asset managers, according to Reuters.
The latest analysis from EY shows 23 firms have already announced plans to move assets worth approximately £1tn, up from £800bn in the previous quarter.

Almost all of the front pages carry photos of Theresa May as she delivered her address to the nation on Wednesday night, standing alone at the podium with a backdrop of union jacks.
The Sun says Mrs May delivered a "furious attack" on warring MPs, assuring voters she is on the side of the people.
But the Guardian reports that the prime minister herself is facing a "furious backlash" from her own backbenchers, some of whom are now calling on her to resign.
Boiling down her message to the headline "it's not my fault", the Daily Mirror describes her statement from Downing Street as a display of "deluded defiance" by an "arrogant PM".

According to the Daily Mail, Mrs May abandoned plans for a long Brexit delay following warnings it would trigger a mass walkout by Eurosceptics in her cabinet.
The newspaper reports that a group of ministers, known as the "pizza club plotters", held an emergency meeting on Tuesday evening to discuss their next move.
Several of the ministers who were present withdrew their threats to quit, the paper says, after Mrs May announced the delay would not go beyond June.
In its editorial, the Mail "applauds" her decision to speak to the public directly, over the heads of what it describes as "incompetent MPs".
But, writing in the paper, the commentator Peter Oborne says her premiership is "hanging by a thread".

    EU: Brexit 'like a circus'
The cartoon in the Daily Telegraph shows Mrs May appealing to President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker to extend the date for Britain's exit from the EU to 30 June. The cartoonist imagines his response: "Everyone would prefer the end of May."
Meanwhile, the Financial Times describes the EU as "exasperated", with the bloc's big two - France and Germany - at odds over how to handle the UK.
The paper quotes one senior EU diplomat as comparing the impasse over Brexit as "a circus that is beyond comprehension".
Another senior figure in Brussels tells the paper that working on Brexit with the UK is like "dealing with a failed state".
In its editorial, the Times says Wednesday's ultimatum by European Council President Donald Tusk was a "humiliating reflection" of the "chaos that has engulfed British politics".
And the Daily Express says that "with a quiver in her voice", Mrs May sounded "genuinely apologetic" to the people of Britain.

    Corbyn's 'walk-out'
A number of the papers comment on reports that Jeremy Corbyn walked out of a crucial Brexit meeting with Mrs May and other party leaders on Wednesday - reportedly because the Labour defector, and member of The Independent Group, Chuka Umunna, was also in the room. The Guardian quotes Mr Umunna as describing the Labour leader's behaviour as "extraordinary".

'Don't listen to Hancock' - cancer charity
Meanwhile, the chief executive of Prostate Cancer UK has written a letter to the Times, urging men not to follow the example of Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who claimed earlier this week that a commercial genetic test "might have saved his life".
Experts have criticised Mr Hancock for wasting NHS time after he revealed he was seeing his GP because a DNA test said he could be at risk of developing prostate cancer.
In her letter, Angela Culhane says predictive genetic tests are not always accurate and the charity does not recommend investing in them.
A genetics professor, interviewed by the paper, said the health secretary had displayed "quite an astonishing level of ignorance" about the NHS.

Brexit BOMBSHELL: Parliament could CANCEL EU exit next week warns William Hague
BREXIT could be overturned by Parliament next week according to a dramatic warning from William Hague, former Foreign Secretary and Conservative Party leader.

The House of Commons could do this by voting to revoke the Article 50 EU exit mechanism. If this happens the Government would have to choose between formally revoking the UK’s notification and ignoring a Parliamentary instruction. Last December the advocate general of the European Court of Justice suggested Britain could withdraw Article 50 unilaterally.

Parliament TURNS on Theresa May after she attacks MPs - ‘History will judge her BRUTALLY!’
FURIOUS MPs turned on Theresa May after she accused them of being responsible for a delay to Brexit.

The Prime Minister launched the astonishing attack after she confirmed to Parliament Article 50 would be extended until June 30. In a bid to save face, she said “all MPs have been willing to say is what they do not want”. Attempting to appeal to the public, she told the nation she was on their side in the bid to get Brexit over the line.

But her comments left MPs seething, and many took to social media to vent their fury.
Labour MP David Lammy wrote on Twitter: “Theresa May's attempt to put Parliament against the people on Brexit tonight is sinister.
“It is the populism of Steve Bannon and Donald Trump.
“History will judge her brutally. Our country deserves so much better than this.”

Brexit: More than half a million sign petition demanding Article 50 is revoked and UK stays in EU
Petition to scrap withdrawal process attracts more signatures than no-deal petition within hours

More than half a million people have signed a petition urging the government to revoke Article 50 and remain in the European Union amid continuing Brexit turmoil.
Hundreds of thousands of people offered their support to the petition on Wednesday night as Theresa May was forced to beg Brussels for a delay to Britain’s exit from the bloc.

“The government repeatedly claims exiting the EU is 'the will of the people',” the petition’s organiser Margaret Anne Georgiadou wrote.

“We need to put a stop to this claim by proving the strength of public support now for remaining in the EU. A People’s Vote may not happen – so vote now.”

By Thursday morning, the petition had garnered more than 550,000 signatures, eclipsing the 370,000 a petition launched in November calling for a no-deal Brexit has so far attracted.

90% of Britons agree - Brexit is a national humiliation, and Theresa May continues to get it wrong

After voting for Brexit, our inability 1,001 days later to decide which flavour we will pursue, and the dismal failures of leadership in Westminster, have become a national humiliation.
Indeed, 90 per cent of the British public believe that the Government’s handling of negotiations is a national humiliation, according to new polling for Sky Data.
Brexit in-depth: All the latest news, analysis and expert opinion
Seven per cent believe it to be a triumph, while the other three per cent still live in caves and eat bark.

    Alienating MPs
Theresa May, meanwhile, has transcended irony by accusing the House of Commons of “spending endless hours contemplating its navel on Europe”While Jeremy Corbyn was wrong to walk out of Wednesday night’s Downing Street meeting – it was a stunt unbecoming a political leader during a national crisis – there is now little attempt by Mrs May to reach out across the political divide.
By blaming MPs, she has simply entrenched their positions. On the face of it, this was a gross political miscalculation.

    No-deal Brexit more likely
Tory Leavers believe the chance of no Brexit has receded, so have less incentive to vote for Mrs May’s deal.
She needs Labour votes to compensate for the rebels on her own benches.
Brussels meanwhile is relatively comfortable taking this one to the wire – to an emergency summit as late as Thursday or Friday next week, with hours to go. For the EU, the risk is divided 27 ways.

    Fundamental problems
A new prime minister will not change fundamental truths about Brexit.
Europe will be unwilling to let us cherrypick from its four freedoms (goods, services, capital, people).
The EU will demand a price for preferential trading access. We will continue to want close trading and cultural relationships with our continental cousins.
Yet it is difficult to see how this prime minister can heal rather than widen the rifts in our politics.

'Cancel Brexit' petition passes one million signatures

A petition demanding Theresa May revokes Article 50 and cancels Brexit has passed one million signatures.
"The government repeatedly claims exiting the EU is 'the will of the people'," the petition says.
"We need to put a stop to this claim by proving the strength of public support now, for remaining in the EU. A People's Vote may not happen - so vote now."
It has had the highest volume of sign-ups on record, Parliament's Petitions Committee said.
The petition caused the official petitions website to crash, with a surge in support following the prime minister's Downing Street speech on Wednesday.
