Firstly, when I created this challenge I certianly didn't think it would be completed this quickly. In fact it was more of an aspiration and something to focus on rather than an expectation, especially given the amount of main event wins I had logged prior to this (ZERO).
I wasn't even going to play last night however decided to play the 7.15pm sat into the main event. As mentioned previously keeping this diary was eye opening in relation to buyins, particularly when I direct buy in plus a second bullet. Only playing the main event when managing to sat in there was an instant pressure release, particularly given this diary and no doubt people were assuming I'd never win a main event at the rate I was going.
I didn't think anything was going to happen at all during the tourney as I was floating along nicely, playing well, but hadn't manage to pick up any bounties by the time buy ins had ended. A couple of hands stand out for me during the night. One hand in particular with around 20 left, I rivered a second nut flush on a paired board and only called the bet from villain rather than re-raising all in. The flush river card also gave him a full house. Just calling rather than shoving left me light, but still in the tourney.
At 17 left I found QQ, opening raise to 5K (blinds 1250/2.5), I re-raised to 15K, player behind called, then opening raiser shoved (smallish chip stack). It didn't feel good with the player behind calling my raise but I had QQ and around 17bb remaining. With the chance of a bounty I shipped it in to be insta called by KK. Lovely Q on the turn and QQ > KK > JJ and moved into chip lead.
That hand pretty much propelled me towards the Final Table and after a really long and tough Heads up battle with Nutcr4cker my A10 held up against his A7 (all in pre-flop). It also helped that the majority of the remaining players were playing tight, so I could take advantage of that.
The Rail
Massive thank you to all who railed. @DustoLucko had chosen attempt number 5 and popped his head in early doors to wish me good luck, as had a few others. Come Final Table when the rail was going on he was there again along with many others. The rail helped with my concentration massively as has keeping this diary.
Also big congrats to @Allan23 who was railing hard! With three left he dropped in that he had just won the mini!! Very nice indeed although I wish he had said earlier so I could have railed his FT. He's no bad for a Falkirk fan....!!
@DustoLucko Private Message me your bank details and I'll forward on your freeroll money. Hopefully you can lump it on a £55 bounty hunter and we can sweat you, however also happy for you to spend it as you please.
Sorry for the long post, still in shock this challenge was completed before the end of January and in 5 attempts. I have really enjoyed writing and keeping this diary, along with the competitive aspect to it so might continue it in some way shape or form. Happy for any suggestions (realistic). The £110 buyins are sadly outwith my bank roll (even now).
I honestly believe that setting targets helps our poker a great deal. And it makes us accountable to both ourselves &, in this case, everyone who knows.
Bravo you.
I do hope you do another.
Could aim lower, maybe first win of any MTT max buy-in £11, with maybe a minimum of (say) 100 runners, something like that.
You've certainly helped boost Forum traffic, we are having the best day today we have had in a goodly while.
Anyone else wants to try something similar you'll have my support, not that it's worth anything...
So trying to think of another challenge and wondering whether there are a few others out there who'd also be keen to join me?
I was thinking of something like a sky bingo card, where there were 9 different tournament types, and first one to win all 9 (or 3, 6 like an actual bingo card) could win a small prop bet, just £20 in or something?
If you're interested in more info, and are not an absolute crusher, send me over a message and we can agree a format and create a new forum thread etc etc.
It would be good to get at least 5 players involved in this, so need another 4. Please note it would be lighthearted fun and max buy in for any given tourny likely to be the main.
Looking at the opposition so far.....count me in! Hopefully it will include mostly £5/£10/£22 games. My days of BI the main direct are long over. However, it would be ok for this challenge.
Thinking about it a bit more, I propose a £1 deepstack/£2 Deepy and a £5 deepy (megastack) to be included. Plus a FTT game on a Monday. That is if others agree.
*edit (because I am on a roll now) maybe also a £5/£11/£22 Bounty?
Yup. How i imagine it playing out is there will be a box of 9 squares, each containing a different tournament. Each column would also have different buy ins, from small, medium to large (one large being a main, so you'd have to sat in in that case, others being a 22 as the main).
Just need one or two more suckers players to sign up, and I think we have a challenge on! Should make for a good Forum thread with loads of banter. It could last a while though if #runlikewaller does hit a dry patch

FTT night is more important.
(well played mate )
This thread/diary can hopefully continue in some form...what about winning the Sunday major?
Also good job all round from @Allan23

Attempt 5 was just a buy in of £7.20.

cashes = £825.67
bounties obtained = £384.07
best finish to date = FIRST, WINNER - 20 January 2020 - Attempt 5
Total spent in operation unicorn = £944.54
Terrific stuff.
