Foyle is certainly a contender. But there are so many great shows to choose from, and (IMO) there are a few better:-

    Luther; Sherlock; Line of Duty

And a few that are probably as good:-

    Morse, Vera, Unforgotten

30 years ago, British TV produced the best sitcoms. Now, it is crime-even better than the truly great US Crime shows

There are 20 programmes on the link.
    Foyle was the last.
So you have to scroll to the left.
    Fair enough.

Only 1 to add to my personal list, and in the 2nd category, would be DCI Banks.

Which reminds me about 2 facts about the author, the late, great, Peter Robinson:-

    1. One of his books contains the usual, usually meaningless, platitudes from people. But 1 stuck with me-"Probably the greatest author alive today-Stephen King". That is some accolade, coming from the person who would probably win the popular vote there

    2. On social media, I recall some troll saying it was his fault Banks the TV series was ditched, because the reason was the killing off of Annie Cabbot. To which Robinson replied that that was a TV decision-she was still alive and well in his books :)

As TV's Crown Court returns after 40 years, can YOU work out who these stars who appeared in the original 1970s drama are?

All rise! Crown Court is back. The 1970s afternoon drama series that took viewers into a fictional courtroom - but with a jury of real people delivering their verdict - is being shown on British television for the first time since its original run ended in 1984. From 2.30pm tomorrow digital TV channel Talking Pictures will repeat the ground-breaking show - which ran for 11 series and 879 episodes from 1972 to 1984 - from the start. And practically every British actor you have heard of appeared in it.

Wasn't there a writers strike that affected lots of series and producers brought in inexperienced writers just to keep the series going ?

The Wikipedia article below shows the writer for each episode.

    Better Call Saul (season 6)

    Writing
In February 2020, Gould suggested the sixth season would explore Saul Goodman's flashforwards as Gene Takavic to a greater extent than previous seasons.[10] By April 2020, scripting for the season had already begun. Gould did not want the season to be anticlimactic, so, to deliver a satisfactory conclusion to Better Call Saul, he brought co-creator Vince Gilligan, who also created Breaking Bad, back to the writer's room "for a good chunk of the season".[4] Gilligan had not been involved in the writers' room since early in season three.[11] By December 2020, scripting was still not complete, with Gould saying the writers having to communicate through Zoom, rather than in person, was like "trying to dance in quick sand".[12]

Gould later said the season would explore if there was any way for Saul to earn redemption after his criminal activities throughout the series.[13] During filming of the season, series star Bob Odenkirk said that Gould told him that "when Better Call Saul is done it will shed new light ... you will see Breaking Bad and the story of Breaking Bad in a different way", comparing to its final season where Gilligan had "start[ed] knocking things down and start[ed] lighting fires and burning everything down".[14]

    Critical response
Better Call Saul (season 6): Critical reception by episode
Season 6 (2022): Percentage of positive critics' reviews tracked by the website Rotten Tomatoes[85]

The sixth season of Better Call Saul has received universal acclaim. On Rotten Tomatoes, the season has an approval rating of 99% based on 175 reviews, with an average rating of 9.4/10. The website's critical consensus reads, "Better Call Saul remains as masterfully in control as Jimmy McGill keeps insisting he is in this final season, where years of simmering storytelling come to a scintillating boil."[85] On Metacritic, the season has a score of 94 out of 100 based on 20 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".[86]

After the airing of the series finale, Stuart Jeffries of The Guardian said that the series had surprisingly surpassed its predecessor in quality, saying: "Over six series, Better Call Saul evolved into a more profound and beautiful drama about human corruption than its predecessor. It mutated into something visually more sumptuous than Breaking Bad, while never, for a moment, losing its verbal dexterity and moral compass".[87] Craig Elvy of Screen Rant also opined that the series was better than its predecessor, saying: "Jimmy McGill's spinoff leaves a very familiar legacy – sustained and enthusiastic praise from audiences and critics, capped by an ending that satisfies across the board." He went on to say: "When Better Call Saul began, many would've hoped the spinoff could either escape Breaking Bad's shadow, or somehow enhance Walt and Jesse's story with illuminating new details. Few dared dream Better Call Saul would achieve both, and the sheer ambition to create a spinoff that wholly embraces its predecessor whilst also existing in a totally different realm exemplifies why Better Call Saul has an ever-so-slight edge over Breaking Bad."[88] Jeremy Urquhart of Collider made a comparison between the quality of both series’, saying: "Breaking Bad succeeds as a crime-thriller tragedy with a fast-paced plot, and Better Call Saul works as a slower-paced, character-focused drama (with some dark comedy)". He said his list "doesn't aim to argue that one is better than the other. It's a matter of personal preference, but it's hard to deny that there are certain things Better Call Saul does better, but also some areas where it isn't quite as great as its parent show."[89]

When will ITVX be on Sky Q? Why the streaming app isn’t available yet and how to get it on other devices
ITVX launched early in December and, according to the broadcaster, offers ‘a new and improved product experience’

Can you get ITVX on Sky Q?
At present, ITVX is only available on Sky Glass and Sky Stream – you cannot yet access it through a Sky Q box.

Those with Glass or Stream should have seen their ITV Hub app transition to the new ITVX service.

Sky has said that ITVX is expected to arrive on Sky Q in the coming weeks.

    What’s on the ITVX app?
ITV has said that the platform offers more new shows for free than anywhere else, with more than 10,000 hours of free programming available.

It has also said it will release much of its new content on ITVX six to nine months before it airs on its traditional TV channels.

Dame Carolyn McCall, ITV chief executive, promised a “simplified and seamless experience” compared to the ITV Hub.

As well as more than 250 films, including the Back To The Future and Despicable Me trilogies, there will be 200 recent and classic TV series available.

New content premiering on the service includes the cold war drama, A Spy Among Friends, starring Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce, Sara Collins’ bestseller The Confessions of Frannie Langton, and the dark comedy-drama, Tell Me Everything.

There will also be a feature-length special finale to the hugely popular comedy series, Plebs: Soldiers of Rome, as well as Vicky McClure’s psychological thriller, Without Sin and Russell T Davies’s Nolly, starring Helena Bonham Carter.

The family drama, Riches, starring Deborah Ayorinde and Hugh Quarshie, and the landmark natural history documentary, A Year On Planet Earth, presented by Stephen Fry, are also launching on the platform.

On a weekly basis, “at least one flagship show” will be available on the service, such as Litvinenko, starring David Tennant and Mark Bonnar, which launched on Thursday 15 December.
