With friends like this who needs enemies? Nadine Dorries gives car crash BBC interview REFUSING to answer whether she's spoken to Boris Johnson, says Partygate is a 'Remainer plot' and mixes up MPs - as FIFTEEN Tories call on the PM to resign
Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Nadine Dorries, 64, insisted the Prime Minister's mood was 'very positive' despite a slew senior advisors comprising his inner circle resigning this week. The Culture Secretary openly questioned why she was being asked if she had recently spoken with Boris Johnson before cryptically adding: 'We have communicated'. Veteran broadcaster Charlie Stayt admitted he was 'really confused' by her answers, and asked if it was a 'difficult question' to answer. Ms Dorries then repeated 'we have communicated', before refusing to expand on her original remarks when pressed further. In later comments, she added the premier always tells the truth 'to the best of his knowledge', and pointed at information given to him by advisors and aides.
Is this the image that will finish Boris? 'Sue Gray gave police photo of Boris Johnson standing next to Rishi Sunak and toasting the camera with a can of Spanish beer during his lockdown birthday party'
Reports suggest the Prime Minister (pictured, top right, in 2019) was pictured toasting with a can of Estrella while at a No 10 birthday party organised by his wife Carrie - one of 12 being investigated by the Met Police. The photo was allegedly one of 300 images handed to investigators by (bottom right) Sue Gray's team following her inquiry and shows him stood next to Chancellor Rishi Sunak (left), who had a soft drink. It is understood Mr Sunak was there for a Covid meeting and was not invited in advance.
Trade Minister Penny Mordaunt is on 'resignation watch' and even Boris's allies believe no-confidence vote is 'inevitable': But PM says enemies 'will need a tank to drag him out of No 10' as he appoints Brexiteer minister as chief of staff
Penny Mordaunt became the latest Minister to be put on 'resignation watch' tonight as sources in the pro-Boris Johnson camp said a no-confidence vote was inevitable - while the PM told allies it will take a 'tank division' to drag him out of No.10. One Minister told The Mail on Sunday the shadow whipping operation to shore up support for the Prime Minister was increasingly 'worried' that she might quit over Partygate. The group is led by Chris Pincher, a former whip, and has been most active in organising loyalists as well as drawing up a list of MPs ahead of a potential confidence vote. It comes after the PM was rocked by the dramatic resignation of his long-serving policy chief Munira Mirza this week, who was followed by director of communications Jack Doyle, chief of staff Dan Rosenfield, principal private secretary Martin Reynolds and special adviser in the policy unit Elena Narozanski. In a bid to ride out the Partygate storm, Mr Johnson Saturday evening announced new chiefs of staff and communications - Brexiteer Steve Barclay and outspoken Remainer Guto Harri respectively.
Boris takes aim at 'Carrie's clique': Johnson orders shake-up of No 10 and out goes one of his wife's best friends Henry Newman as bombshell book claims PM is under her thumb
Boris Johnson last night embarked on an historic shake-up of his embattled Downing Street operation, which has led to the departure of a key member of one of the so-called 'Carrie clique' of advisers linked to his wife. Sources said that adviser Henry Newman (right with Carrie Johnson) would leave No 10 to return to work for his old boss Michael Gove. Boris Johnson last night embarked on an historic shake-up of his embattled Downing Street operation, which has led to the departure of a key member of one of the so-called 'Carrie clique' of advisers linked to his wife. Just hours after the Daily Mail revealed the first details of a bombshell new biography portraying Mr Johnson as a weak Prime Minister who is so 'mesmerised' by his 33-year-old wife that he allows her to influence policies and appointments, sources said that adviser Henry Newman would leave No 10 to return to work for his old boss Michael Gove. It comes as Mr Johnson responded to criticism of a chaotic, dysfunctional No 10 by establishing a new Office of the Prime Minister, which will be integrated with the Cabinet Office under a powerful new Chief of Staff, Cabinet Office Minister Steve Barclay (bottom left). Mr Johnson has also lured back Guto Harri (top left), an adviser from his days as London Mayor, to be his new Director of Communications.
Carrie uncovered: Explosive book by LORD ASHCROFT reveals friend claims 'Carrie is why Boris has squandered the chance to become a great PM' while others say she 'repeatedly asked about the state of his marriage' before they got together
Carrie Johnson uncovered: Book by LORD ASHCROFT that's set Westminster alight LORD ASHCROFT: Someone who knows Johnson, both politically and personally, has given much thought to the development of his character over the past four or five years. This person is in no doubt about what has happened. 'Boris changed after he met Carrie,' they say. 'He always was a bit of a lonely figure because he has few friends, but now it's worse than ever. He's fallen out with his children, he's lost Marina and, since he became Prime Minister, so many of the problems he's had to deal with have been because of Carrie. 'Deep down, I think he knows this. Sometimes I've seen him make excuses to avoid going upstairs to his flat in Downing Street. The whole thing is like a Greek tragedy.
Now Sajid Javid distances himself from Boris: Health Secretary says Keir Starmer deserves 'absolute respect' after the PM claimed the Labour leader failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile
In a fresh blow to the Prime Minister, Health Secretary Sajid Javid went out of his way to praise the Labour leader, saying he had done a 'good job' when he was director of public prosecutions.
Carrie Johnson is the sort of politician who causes untold damage to this country.
Never bothers with the small stuff. You know, like getting elected. Involved in a huge power struggle with the equally unelected Dominic Cummings. But at least it was in his job title. Always there-not in the background. In the foreground. Telling her husband, and from there the country, what to do.
Reaction to any criticism. Oh, it's all so unfair. It's only because I'm a woman, blah, blah.
The fact that she is a woman is irrelevant. The fact that she seems to be deciding who is, or is not, a suitable Minister, or Special Adviser, or Foreign policy in Afghanistan, most certainly is. Always there at every "work event".
Yet another person who wants power without responsibility. And to brief against others, yet still feels entitled to complain when people do the same to her.
It almost makes me feel sorry for Boris. But not quite

Boris refuses to say sorry for Savile 'slur' after hate mob targets Starmer: PM defies Tories and his own adviser on political violence to withdraw jibe - as police face questions over how confrontation was allowed to happen
Boris Johnson is refusing to apologise following the dramatic scenes of Sir Keir being surrounded and abused at as he walked in Westminster after leaving New Scotland Yard shortly before 5pm. Police shielded him and led him to a marked car as the protesters continued to swarm around him him shouting about Savile , hurling baseless allegations about him 'protecting paedophiles' and also branding him a 'traitor'. The protesters, who included anti-vaccine activist Piers Corbyn, had descended on London yesterday in support of Canada's 'Freedom Convoy' of truck drivers in Ottawa. Scotland Yard later said two arrests were made after Sir Keir was escorted to safety. MailOnline understands the Parliamentary authorities are now urgently looking into how the situation was allowed to spiral - with questions over why Sir Keir was escorted through the mob rather than taken to safety, and why he had not been driven from inside the secure estate. But the terrifying events have also renewed the storm over Mr Johnson's swipe in the House of Commons last week that Sir Keir failed to prosecute paedophile Savile when he was the Director of Public Prosecutions - even though he had played no role in the case and the decision not to bring charges.
Boris Johnson's 'he-shuffle': PM moves chief whip Mark Spencer to Commons Leader and gives Jacob Rees-Mogg a new 'Brexit opportunities' job but NO ONE is sacked and just one woman gets promoted as he scrambles to defuse Tory coup amid grim polls
The re-arrangement of middle-ranking roles was dubbed a 'he-shuffle' this afternoon because it was almost all men getting new jobs rather than losing them. The Prime Minister axed chief whip Mark Spencer after a month of mutinies and miscalculations that saw the PM face attempts to remove him. But the Sherwood MP, dubbed the 'Big Farmer' by Mr Johnson, was shunted into a ministerial post instead of being fired - perhaps an attempt to prevent a well-informed new opponent taking up arms against him. He was made Commons Leader, with incumbent Jacob Rees-Mogg moving sideways into a new Cabinet role as Minister for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency. Other moves included Chris Heaton Harris replacing Mr Spencer as chief whip, while James Cleverly moved within the Foreign Office to become Europe Minister.
