Thank you for your email and apologies for the delay in response.
Further to Julies email I can confirm the refunds amounts to be correct and all accounted for.
Please find this detailed below:
05.10.2022 – £66.00 – amount refunded
04.11.2022 – £66.00 – amount refunded
02.12.2022 – £67.00 included in refund of £256.71 – amount refunded (without the government rebate this would have been £189.71)
£388.71 refund amount noted on the bill dated 02.12.2022 is a total of government rebates 05.10.2022 – £66.00, 04.11.2022 – £66.00, 02.12.2022 – £67.00 and £189.71 overpayment on Direct Debit.
Poor Catherine, she thinks that'll be the end of it. She has a rude awakening coming...
I am astonished by this reply. They are saying that it was ok to add the government refunds to our bills. If this was the case, what was the point of them. I will be replying.
Poor Catherine, she thinks that'll be the end of it. She has a rude awakening coming...
It is unbelievable. This is what they have done. They have paid the refunds into my bank account. They have reduced the bills by the refund amounts. They have then added the refund amounts to the bills. Absolutely f....n ridiculous. So I am wrong.
Why wouldnt they just send people refunds. Or just take the refunds off the bill. No, they had to send them, add them to the bills, and take them off the bills.
I dont have a clue what the guy who replied was talking about. Was he even speaking English? I cant wait for them to move to Kraken, whatever that is
Mumbles1956 said: I have got it now. EDF have sent the rebates to my bank. They have also reduced my bills accordingly. They have then added them to my bills. Ridiculous. Why didnt they just send them to my bank. Or just deduct them from the bills. This was a system designed by a Village Idiot.
EDF had a peculiar way of showing it for those not on Kraken. However, it was technically the correct way as it was money in and money out.
Their old system was designed decades ago when billing was simpler and people didn't care. The bolting on of functionality that was never dreamed of originally made it unwieldy. This is why they are moving to Kraken.
Mumbles1956 said: I couldnt possibly agree. They processed the rebates three times. Once when they paid them into our banks accounts. The second time was when they discounted them from the bills. The third time, when they added them to the bills. Why could they not have just paid them into our bank accounts, or just discounted them from the bills. This would have meant just processing them once.
When Ilooked at my 6 monthly summary of my bill. I thought I was looking at a definitive breakdown. It showed the total of my 6 direct debits. It also showed what I thought was my total usage. And it added the rebates to the bill. So I thought that they had paid me the rebates, and then taken them back.
Although, had I scrolled much further down the bill, I would have seen another summary of my total usage, with the rebates deducted.
So the first summary I came to was the total usage, less the rebates.
I still cant see why they would see crediting us with the rebates twice, debiting them once, and compiling two summaries, would make any sense.
Try explaining that to the proverbial man from Mars that just landed.

Mumbles1956 said: I can only speak for myself. The reason I have been discussing the issue today, is because subsequent to a couple of months of email correspondence with EDF, we have finally resolved the matter. They have seemed reluctant throughout to explain what they had actually done. I dont really blame their staff for this. It must have been quite embarrassing to explain to customers that they had processed the rebates three times. Anyway it is all over and done with now, and as far as I am concerned, I am unlikely to mention it ever again.
I do have reservations about EDF, and how they manage accounts. They sent me a refund of £256 in December. I didnt ask for the refund. They then sent me an email last month, suggesting that I might wish to increase the amount of my direct debit, as we are coming in to Winter, and they were unsure whether or not the current amount would cover my bills. Although had they not sent me the refund, I am certain it would.
Incidentally, I love the Welsh spelling of Mumbles.
Mwmbwls. Almost as good as Wrecsam.
Being serious it was a ridiculous thing to do?

Your electricity and gas bill We'll refund £254.02 on or around 7 Dec 2022 Your monthly energy payments are increasing For 04 June 2022 - 02 December 2022 (182 days) The balance on your last bill (3 June 2022) £206.02 in debit You paid us credit £1,326.00 (6 payments of £221.00) Refunds £388.71 (Please see Your payment history for more information) Your charges for this period (including VAT) £731.27 Your new account balance £0.00
This is what happened. They sent me the Oct/Nov rebates of £132. They didnt send me the Dec rebate. They reduced the refund by £132, in respect of the Oct/Nov rebates. So they sent me £256.71, not £388.71 They finally explained yesterday, after a couple of months of emails, that had they sent the Dec rebate, that my refund would have been reduced accordingly, to £189.71. However they didnt send the rebate, and didnt reduce the refund.
I took the summary above as an accurate breakdown of my bills. Had I thought that they would process some of the refunds 3 times, and one of them only once, I would have looked for more details. They clearly processed the Dec rebate only once, as they didnt send it to my bank, and also did not add it to my bill, they have only discounted it from my usage. Something you have said they couldnt do.

What will it take to get a reply to an email?
Most companies treat their customers with courtesy, and respect.
EDF clearly dont.

I am not surprised about the confusion you have caused.
You have sent the rebates to my bank.
You also deducted them from the bills.
And finally added them to the bills.
If I may say so, only a Village Idiot would have done this.
Why would not just send the rebates to my bank.
Or alternatively just take them off the bills.
Why on earth would you send them to my bank, and take them off the bills, and add them to the bills.
I find this absolutely incredible.
You have made something that should have been very simple, into something very confusing
